You are awesome. The more I listen to you and your philosophy the less I feel alone in this world. I cannot relate to what I call "surface dancers" so hearing you speak directly to that and the personal draw to the deep and meaningful helps me to feel like I am not the only one that feels this way. I understand that there are many of us that are this way but most often we are not seen or understood, many shy away from vulnerability and authenticity because they might feel they will be shunned or ostricized for being different. I embrace being different and am proud to display it, like you do. Thank you for helping me to recenter my beliefs and values this morning Ryan. I will be sharing this vlog with my best bud in Canada this morning so he might see that there are more of us out there than one might think or consider. Really good job Ryan. Really good. Nailed it for me. Thanks.

I absolutely agree and can relate. I have finally escaped the matrix at 46 years old. I spent 26 years working civil construction, for a Boss ,and Company that would replace me in 1hr,if I died. Now In Thailand got my elite visa,,and looking forward to building my life,,my way. Currently living in a beach hut in Rawai while I find my way,,spend my day fishing with the sea gypsies ,for no money at all,and love every minute of it. Love your channel mate.

Good one Ryan! Nice to hear your views and experiences. I can relate to it too. I emigrated to Australia in 2008 and before that being in England was making me feel depressed and anxious. So much so that it was affecting me physically. Making me sick. And after giving everything up over there and starting a new life elsewhere, somewhere more relaxing instantly made me feel better. You just have to be happy I think. That's the key.

I must say you're very brave. Firstly setting up the farm coming from financially comfortable job which commands a lot of respect from your peers is a good position, so your change to the farm eas bravd because you had a lot to lose. Secondly (i think the most brave part) is living in a bamboo hut. Not because a bamboo hut is bad, but because others may ridicule you, others may think youre a weird person or something of that kind. Choosing to live a simple life and not caring what others think, the way you live life the way you decide and not living to satisfy another's perception of success is the bravest move IMO

Very interesting ranting today, Ryan! Don't you think people like you (and me, I have to admit) can only be out of the system (or partly), because they have been in the system before? It all comes down to having sufficient resources to be able to leave the system. On a different point when you're talking about change, is it rural Thailand that changed you, or are you, on your humble level, changing Thailand? When I look at your environment, I see Thailand in the part of the domain that still is Damo's family property, and I see a bit of England in the way you (and Damo obviously) arranged the fenced part of it, with the cottage, the bamboo huts and the kitchen, and this beautiful and neat garden, so different to the rest of your surroundings.I have to say, I'd have done the same, wanting to be fully immersed in Thai day-to-day life, but shaping it with my European habits...

I honestly think you were just speaking directly to me with this video. I'm in all those places right now. Earning $200k a year, with many, many perks, honestly adds to nothing if I'm looking at where I want to be, and where I should be. The problem is, I have a family who depend on me, a mortgage, bills and everything else that comes with a Western life. It all seems insurmountable and impossible to overcome, or find a clear path out of it all. In saying that, you are such an inspiration, at a much younger age, and a clear and precise spiritual wisdom that I know I need to align with. I just feel as though I can't. Thank you again for everything mate. God bless.

Step by step brother, at that sort of earning you should be debt free soon so thats step one. One things leads to another once you ask it of the universe. It is actually impossible for it not to unfold, i needed another 5 years in corporate before things really began to transform exponentially in our way of life. Of course your path will be very different and unique to mine. best of luck!

Hi Ryan, i can understand where you are coming from as in my early 20s I was in sales as a medical rep. Initially I loved the job, the car and the money and although I had more money than I had ever had in my life, breaking targets etc. there was something missing. It took a while for me to realise what it was, but then it hit me! I was getting no job satisfaction. So, from within that world I looked outside my comfort zone seeking something where I could make a difference. That was when I discovered the world of Probation. So to prepare myself for training I quit my high pressure sales job and worked as a petrol pump attendant, a van washer, on the production line at a cosmetic factory, an apple picker etc. I was married at the time and with my wife and young son we moved lock, stock and barrel to Suffolk where I trained for 2 years emerging as a qualified Probation Officer, a job which was different every day, a world of criminals of all sorts, working in prisons with some of the most dangerous people in Britain, being threatened with viloence, placed in hostage situations, so many different thiings. I loved it, having the opportunity to chnage people's lives for the better. This was my perfect lot for 36 years. The pay was not great but the satisfaction was priceless! When I retired initially, i was so bored after 3 weeks that I worked for a further few years as an assistant manager at a hostel for homeless people. And now aged 75 I am living here in Thailand for the past 10 years, and enjoying yet another change in my life. Life is full of surprises, so, "Don't worry, be happy." God Bless you all 😀❤🙏

I’m a retired therapist- and so many of my clients in England were high performing guys in their 40s who were coping by using ‘substances’ or alcohol to get by. High 6 figure salaries, big mortgages, kids in expensive private schools, and high maintenance partners 😅 so very trapped and scared as hell to throw a grenade into their life… terrified of the unpredictability of the results.

On depression, I quit my job in Manchester and though it took a lot of time eventually I ended up doing something that did not last. Your story reminded me of a reading from the Bible where Jesus asked the fisherman to throw down their nets and follow him, everything they knew was of no importance to them any longer, so they followed Him and went on many wonderful adventures and became his 12 Apostles. And they became fisher of men. And we’re taught many wonderful lessons and opened their eyes to new possibilities and opportunities that they wouldn’t otherwise find. If they hadn’t taken the chance to experience and explore new things. It’s a big world out their so don’t pigeon hole your self and wear blinders open your eyes and take a chance.

Life is a journey and as we go down the road of life we experience different things. These experience’s are shaping our mind. At one time your mind gets shaped more squared but then you have a different experience and that sands off the edges, sometimes make it all round shape. It looks to me that you saw something that made the dream job (and my guess is that at some point and time you loved each of your jobs with all your heart) into a burden. Now you have changed life again and with your family growing your love towards that family grew as well. At the same time your feeling of responsibility has shown to grow as well. So you are fine to go for some of the things like TV, air on etc for your family to feel good and save. Nothing wrong there. As you are evaluating what you do and why you should be able to notice should the changes bring you to any limit that you don’t want to surpass. Your life - your choice - your responsibility!!

I was still very in the corporate world, plant medicines played a huge role. Damo knows most of this through her Buddhist believes but we generally don't need to discuss anymore. I would suggest he is not depressed from not working, but morso from not having meaning and purpose. Recommend Alan Watts, Ram Dass, Terence Mckenna talks online. Use the time to study or find something that he loves to create something from until work comes around. wish you well with it.

There's a lot to be said for keeping life simple and living a simple life. But as life progresses and the family expands then it's not always possible to maintain that simple life to the same extent. When I first arrived in Australia as an immigrant i spent the first 12mth back packing around the country living out of my tent living a nomadic lifestyle. It was the best time of my life. Simple, no ties. Now 30 odd years later, I have a house , bills and lots of accumulated....well junk really and life isn't so simple anymore. But that's just how life manifests itself. Often I feel like selling up every I own and hitting the road with just my back pack and tent ....But I guess the reality is we become too comfortable in our life's and as we get older become scared of giving up everything we have worked all our life's for. Having said that though I still keep the idea on the back burner should circumstance change.

(leaving the matrix) Although it seems daft after getting my wifes uk citizenship, but we plan to leave next year for issan. Luckily enough we both feel its best for us and are son (same age as otis). And i, same age as you. Thank you for the inspirational vlogs, living in issan. Takes me back to 2010 when i spent a few months living in issan in a wooden shack 😂 with giant centipedes in the shower, and cobras lying in the fire wood pile. Eating papaya salad everyday for months, until i was told its made with fermented fish. Enjoy the journey, ill join you next year ✌️ Si

Mushrooms used in cooking are grown and produced in the same fashion as the kind found in supplements. The difference between the two is mushrooms that are used in supplements are thought to have more health benefits.

wow, i dont often comment but have watched nearly if not all of your vloggs, please don't be offended by my comments because i agree with what you say its just that you dress it up in big words perhaps trying to rationalise or justify your situation, live your life how you want, and thankyou for sharing it, i am jealous of your situation to be honest, and someone once said people in L A have shrinks to talk to, poor people have friends, you are blessed with thousands of youtube friends, and hopefully a few very real friends who most people do not have, bearing yourself on hear is admirable, but and here it is , man you don't half talk a lot of ****, (55 55) do what makes you happy, money is tool to help you achieve that, money is not happiness,

Noted but I think you completely missed my point. What is shit and not shit is subjective not objective as you see in this comments section. Question what might not be shit about it as I would suggest someone that loved it to question what is complete shit about it. Anything you put out is yin and Yang so yea it is shit in some sense. I said in this very piece it will resonate with some and not others, take it or leave it but I will put it out. Additionally 90% of what I said is just basic Jungian psychology. According to Jung, anxiety and depression are predominantly caused by an unhealthy lifestyle rather than a dysfunctional brain. Consequently, his treatment approach didn’t start with prescribing drugs but instead involved providing patients with psychological insight, such as understanding what life entails and how to effect change. medium.com/the-philosophy-hub/shadow-and-meaning-carl-jungs-prescription-for-anxiety-and-depression-2aeb2702ce7b

We need to get away from the view that change is always good, basically just for the sake of change. Thailand is in a unique position to learn from the mistakes of the West and China. People need to accept that there is an inexorable connection with the land and on another level they need to build up their capital in order to prevent themselves from being pushed off the land. Land is at the core of our existence and probably because of that aspect, there are many people/corporations who see it as a commodity. So my advice to anyone in Thailand would be to get some land and then go from there in building up their security so they don't find themselves in a position where they have to give up that land.

Randomly had this video idea today and am interested to get your thoughts on it. I think foreigners are very amazed and interested in the processes of buying elephants/owning elephants/breeding elephants in Thailand. I'm not sure if there would be anyone near your village who would be willing to share, but I think it would be very interesting. I know when I was in Nong Khai, that the only elephants I would see were at the one temple with a market along with it.

Buy some tents and open a small camp site. I spoke to a bloke about 15 yrs ago in Thailand he charged back then about £1200 per head to stay and work on his monkey sanctuary food and boad I didnt see what the rooms are like but I thought it was crazy he was getting people from around the world to come and stay and then he got paying labour. Like the paying petting zoo. 😊

Very interesting insight into lots of aspects of life, everybody I’ve ever met in life has always thought that I must be an alien, just me being me which is just because I think differently, It was Williams Shakespeare who once said the world is a stage and we are mere but players, best book I’ve ever read = Ulysses = James Joyce = you might like , song = I’ve Gotta Be Me = Sammy Davi’s Jr.

Poor peasant lives are simple. They grow rice to get enough crops to feed their family for a year and to sell to support their family. After their harvest, they would go to find fish to preserve (fermented fish) for the next growing season. Then there are a couple months that they really don't have anything to do. Some would go out to work growing beans etc... while some just stay home. Then the rainy season comes again when they start all over again. Those poor peasants never have much money like some others. But they have simple life and happy. This is the greatest life to live on earth? Yes, but that is not what I want to live my life. I love the challenge to make our future. Innovation is the key. LIfe goes on from one generation to another. Poor peasants lives don't have that.
