Fun Fact: The reason that the special effects weren't as good as the previous films after 1970 was because Eiji Tsuburaya (who also created "Ultraman" and "Ultraseven") died after the making of "Destroy All Monsters" due to his age. Toho struggled to find just the right Special Effects artist to put in his place.
As a kid this was one of my favorite movies. I had bullies and delt with OCD. This made me see that I need to be brave and not run from pain but face it and conquer it
I laughed so hard when you said "Did the camera break" and seeing the still images was waaaay too hilarious I also like that you labeled the kid bullies a "gang"😂
Remember, kids! To stop bullying, all you apparently need to do is: a) Suddenly become incredible at fighting, so good that cameras can't even film it, and beat them all up b) Make sure that your dad is the strongest living creature on Earth and get him to do it for you
When I watched the Japanese version of the movie, when Gabara was running away the kid said he had his tail between his legs, not that he was a cripple.
The true irony of "Godzilla's Revenge" is that it was directed by Ishiro Honda, the creator of the Dai Kaiju Eiga genre, who went into semi-retirement after this film. From what I read about Honda, he was tired of directing monster movies, yearning to direct other genres like social dramas and comedies. In a way, this film is similar to a social drama (the hero is a latchkey kid), but was mishandled, mostly hampered by a lame script by Shinichi Sekizawa. Perhaps Honda was so sick of directing Godzilla movies that he sabotaged his own film in order to stop the trend. It didn't work. Honda was clearing showing his dissatisfaction with his next G flick, "The Terror of Mechagodzilla" (1975), which suffered from schizophrenia, not knowing whether to be a Shakespearean tragedy for adults or a silly monster movie for kids. And Honda probably found working with child actors annoying, especially these brats. Hell, he kills two brats in "The Terror of Mechagodzilla". Noriaki Yuasa did a better job working with child actors in the Gamera movies. Honda also directed the special effects as Eiji Tsuburaya was too sick to direct. He still gave Tsuburaya the credit. Overall, I have to agree, this one's a real stinker...
“Couldn’t imagine if Godzilla had that hair.” Well, according to the iMDB Trivia page, Gabara’s head was a refurbished head that belonged to a former Godzilla suit. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but if so, go figure.
I lost all sympathy for the kid when caused the sign painter guy to fall --the guy looked like he took a nasty hit to his spine since he fell 15 feet down not mention a mouth full of paint. Kid turned into a jerk.
Lol. He ‘does know’ why. It’s a Kaiju.... And if it’s not to something or somewhere (or some place), THEN IT’S most likely to someone! I just wished he would have said something similar to that line in The Conjuring (course, with the demon’s name and not Godzilla’s). It would have just let came out of nowhere and made the audience chuckle from saying it so melodramatically. 😆
It IS! And it isn’t.... If you like to wolf down a few cold brews to increase the entertainment value of viewing it in a more positive light, you will definitely see a stark contrast in enjoyability. I would do the same with certain non-verbal cartoons or run of the mill animation classics with little voiceover (the ACME Loony Tunes or classic Tom & Jerry; or claymation features were some of the best for that style ‘Chug-a-lug’). It was very B.R.C. Before Robot Chicken.
3:45: Also, wasn't this made during the time when lead paint was not yet banned? If the painter didn't die from a broken back or hip, he will be paralyzed AND slowly dying from lead poisoning!
0:38 Godzilla: YEET! Sea Monster: oh yeah me too. Lemme just uhh.. uhh.. YEET! Godzilla: oh I'm a dolphin. WOOOHHOOO YEET!!! Me: Godzilla is a human And the Sea Monster is a dolphin And when Godzilla said I'm a dolphin he was pretending
When he was talking about not fighting back when being kidnapped. DO NOT LISTEN TO HIM. You need to struggle as much as possible and scream really loud. Make it as difficult as possible for them to take you from point A to point B
Director: so were gonna make the main character super annoying he humps cars makes Strange noises and becomes a bully at the end Guy in Manila suit: are you high? Director: yes
by the way, I think why this moral lesson is so bad, maybe so that way they can get more actors and need some more people for future godzilla films and that way they can get more money for better Godzilla films because after Destroy All Monster's high budget, TOHO lost a lot of money, but many people wanted more godzilla films, but due to the previous film's high budget, Ishirō Honda had to make this film and because the high budget the previous film had and lost the money they had for the previous film too, this is why there was a lot of stock footage, so TOHO cannot go to bankrupcy, also which he made this moral lesson and film so that more people can go to TOHO and start acting for more monster action and more money when the kids are now adults so TOHO can be all what they were like before Destroy All Monsters.
Ok..If toho worked with a company to make this, while simultaneously making a different Godzilla that wasn't as child friendly, I would be ok with this. If they showed this to kids at schools then ok.
When it came out (It was part of a double-feature with "Island of the Burning Damned") we kids packed the movie theater. It might be silly to look back on now, but it was an awesome movie to all us 5th and 6th graders, the real audience it was aimed at.
@@LilJerg I initially picked it up in a discount bin for my 5 year old son and 3 year old daughter. They went nuts over it. 18 years later they still do.
It’s a little weird he says Godzilla and not, my father or my pops, or even my ol’ man. He’s practically referring to him by name in the third person or so... and so if taking the movie into context, that this film acknowledges Son of Godzilla (for obvious reasons) as its other predecessor, it sure makes the dialogue very awkward. He can’t say father or dad, or other parental nomenclature is soooo very weird, when he is the ‘Son of Godzilla’, right??! Then again, it’s all in the mind of a schizophrenic little boy. Apparently. Seeing the actual activities and behaviors, that is.
I really quite enjoy this film - in particular, the Japanese version, wherein I am not driven to want to murder numerous characters. I don't agree depression is thematic in the picture, however bullying certainly is.
With the stock fottage they didn't use stock fottage with mothra rodan or ghidorah to have more popular monsters. Minilla and ishro could watch godzilla and rodan fight. Saying while rodan and godzilla are usually friends they sometimes fight. Maybe use mothra coming in and stoping them fighting. It would be using stock footage from ghidoraha the three headed monster. Give a good message of don't fight with your friends. Plus it could be advertised that rodan and mothra are in the movie.
Ah yer too hard on this movie. It rocks !! it was my favorite film as a kid and I got a big kick out of it. I loved it growing up !!! Im gonna get it for my grandson for a goof.
Japanese boy: (singing lyrics with the word shit head) Micheal Dower:did u just say shit head? Japanese boy: shit head! Micheal Dower: you just said shit head
In short, this movie is much like the premise of a Looney Tunes short, but live action and elongated. So if you think about it that way, it’s not to bad, especially when you can affixate characters within the movie to similar characters from the popular cartoon like Roadrunner, Wile E Coyote, Tweety, Sylvester, Taz, etc. As a BONUS, the little boy was pre-Michael Winslow... or hyper possessed.
how is the message or lesson this movie teaches horrible??? if more kids were taught to fight back against their bullies they wouldn't be out here crying and killing themselves.
Yeah, if you place it into realistic, human context, he really is. Think about it. Gabara would be like a kid in his late teens beating up an 8-year-old. And then fighting the 40-year-old father in hand-to-hand combat!
Hello. If you don't remember, a while back I left a comment that said none of your videos were short of poetry. What I meant was that all of your videos were nothing short of poetry, like how you often say in your videos. That meant that I really enjoyed them and thought they were really funny. I apologize if I didn't make that clear before, and I hope you didn't think I meant any disrespect. And I hope you're doing well, wherever you might be right now.
I know I said sh*thead half-jokingly, and you're pronunciation is probably right. But it's one of those cases for me where, once I hear it one way, it's really hard to hear it another way.
The scene where minilla jumps and lands on a 🌴 to lift gabra into the air and plunge to the ground made me laugh so hard as a kid when I saw it in Netflix when they used to show Godzilla 🎥
Gabra is not a weak monster at all electrical currents run all the way through it's body a electric powered punch if they fixed him up he can be something else.
The reason why this is the least favorite Godzilla Film because they approached a different direction with the plot. The original plot pretty much seems to be ended after Destroyed All Monsters when King Ghidorah finally died and not able to retreat like he had in previous films. Since a child boy is the main character, they added another child boy again in later films Godzilla vs. Hedorah & Godzilla vs. Megalon to give more spices to think that Godzilla would have closer relation with a kid than any one else. Only wish the Heisei Series would have take a different approach as well, but they never had space aliens in those plots so Godzilla pretty much stay bad throughout mid 80's almost to mid 90's.
