The truck was sunk there in a controlled manner after the lake had already filled up with water. The whole thing was initiated and coordinated by the local diving centre. The truck is supposed to simulate the situation from the open-cast mining period, when the dump trucks there poured the chalk quarry into the vibrator.
The Kreidesee is a very cold lake, which is low in nutrients. This is one of the reasons the water is so clear. Therefore there is less fish in the lake, than in many others, especially at those places without any vegetation like the Rüttler. But there is also fish farming at the other side of the lake so there actually are numbers of perch, trout and salmon. The lake is also famous for its char, which is sold in exclusive restaurants all over germany. Check out my other Kreidesee Hemmoor videos. There you can see some fish...
It is an old quarry not far from the city of hamburg where they won chalk from the late 19th century till the 1970s. After the shutdown of the pumps the quarry filled with ground water and became a very beautiful lake with a depth of 60 mtr. The building we are diving in this video is called the rüttler. Trucks like the one (later placed there) on top of the bridge brought the chalk to it and filled it into the pour we are diving down. There was a big machine that split up the chalk from flintstones. The chalk which covers the lakes ground still today is quite heavy and sinks down faster than usuale sediments under water. Thats the reason why the water is so clear. The chalk won in hemmoor was used to get cement. This cement was also used to bild the foundation of the statue of liberty in new york.
V srpnu 2022, konkrétně 27.8. jsem tam byl, úžasná viditelnost. Žlutá poštovní schránka u zábradlí rüttleru (třídičky, třasačky) v hloubce 19m byla viditelná z hladiny jako světlý flek.
