Its going to be a sad day when Derek Jeter retires, I cannot imagine anyone else playing short stop on the yankees. Since i was born he was there. Cheers for one of the greatest players baseball has ever seen. Lets go yanks
Brings tears to my eyes. If it was a single it would still be awesome, that fact he did it on a homer makes all but sweet. Only the captain can make something like this happen. I'm proud to be a yankee fan!!
I think the reason why even fans of Yankees' traditional rivals appreciate this moment is the fact Jeter is such a class act as a player. Immensely beloved by the media, Jeter has a real chance to become the first player voted in unanimously by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.
This was one of his greatest games ever. This day defined and wrapped Jeters career all in one game. Simply amazing in my opinion the best player ever. Yankee fan. Something most could only dream about what a great role model. Very classy guy.
Being a Boston fan no matter how much it hurts me to say that I am one... I find it truly incredible what Derek Jeter accomplished and any semi decent sox fan will mention how awesome this was to watch on TV
I was preparing to say "Why bother recording a sports moment, if you're going to jump around like a fucking idiot when it happens and cause a shaky picture?" But I must say that you did a pretty good job of controlling the urge and giving us a fairly clear view of the moment. *thumbs up*
He hit it 420 ft. (In his book he says when he was a kid he pretended to hit 420 ft home runs) He hit it right as the clock struck 2:00 (he is #2) It was a home run (he is not a home run hitter) He pulled it to left field (he's an opposite field hitter) that is magical.....
jeter's not overrated as a baseball player. his numbers are HOF worthy alone and when you add all of the intangibles he brings to that team its hard to argue that he isn't the most impactful player of his generation. i think the problem many yankee haters (and fans of other teams) have with him is the oversaturation that the media is responsible for. he's been the best player on the most visible team in sports for upwards of 20 years and i can see where you'd think "enough of jeter already" if you're not a fan. his face still makes all over the covers of the sport mags, video game packaging, TV commercials, bill boards, etc. and the baseball writers and broadcasters still practically genuflect every time he punches a single through a drawn in infield even though he's well past his prime as a baseball player. from what l can tell about the guy, however, he's probably more uncomfortable with all this attention then the average yankee hater is. he appears to be an intensely private individual who shuns the spotlight and would gladly deflect this all this attention to his teammates of the media would follow suit. just about the only thing he seems willing to embrace about his celebrity is the access it gives him to top shelf gash and you don't have to love the yankees or jeter to admire him for that.
I'm a huge Rays fan and hate the Yankees...but I have nothing but respect for Jeter. He's a class act, and it was only fitting he got his 3,000th in style.
I REALLY wanted to be at THAT game! I was pretty sure he was going to do it when he did... of course, I told my wife that only Wade Boggs had hit a homer for # 3000, so it was pretty unlikely... so OF COURSE... Guess what "Captain Clutch" did? Thanks for putting me in the stands with you! MUCH appreciated!
This Video Is Awsome This Deff Apart Of History. Derek Jeter The Captin Number 2 Will Hang In The Outfeild With All The Great Legends whose number was Retired and his plague and momument park i garuntee when he retires that following season They Will Retire His Number And Give Him Is Plague in Momument PArk
I did the math, and then i figured out that if he's gonna break Pete Rose's career hits record, Derek is gonna have to get at least 192 hits every season if he really is gonna retire when he's 45.
Honestly, I’m damn glad it was against Tampa Bay. And it’s for one reason, Don Zimmer. It all began with him suggesting Jeter. And he got to see one of Derek’s biggest moments.
3:59 That one's drilled deep to left field! Going back Joyce looking up! SEE YA! 3,000 HISTORY WITH AN EXCLAMATION POINT! OH WHAT A WAY TO JOIN THE 3,000 HIT CLUB! DEREK JETER HAS DONE IT IN GRAND STYLE!
he will be the all time leader in hits by then if he makes around 150-250 hits a season maybe more but thats if he plays like every game or nearly every game of the season
before he hits it i keep on looking at the big white shirt in the left field bleachers. before everyone knew who he was. and did anyone else notice that gardener just walks away with a straight face after he hugs jeter?
