Queen of the forest. Probably my favorite song off that album. Derek you could tell was struggling with that one. Got to see him a few times with Ted. One of the coolest voices in Rock !
So cool to see Derek doing Queen Of The Forest. That's my favourite song on the first Nugent album. And a little trivia, it was also the first rock song played on WKRP, in the first episode, after Johnny does his rant that ends with "GIVE IT TO ME STRAIGHT, DOCTOR! I CAN TAKE IT!" You just hear a few bars of the intro, before Johnny says, "Oh, I almost forgot: BOOGER!", then you hear a little bit more before it crossfades to the next scene.
The show was created by Hugh Wilson and was based upon his experiences working in advertising sales at Top 40 radio station WQXI in Atlanta, including many of the characters. Wilson once told The Cincinnati Enquirer that he selected WKRP as the call sign to stand for C-R-A-P. Source wiki
Yes:ABSOLUTELY: Derrick left after Bass Player Rob Grange split.Lucky for Ted Derrick returned. NUGENT could never keep the same band members going for more than one album..,, back of the albums are all different members, on just about every album except for Derek.
@@jimkostan9932 I'm not sure who quit first, but Rob Grange is on all of the first three Nugent solo albums (as well as Double Live Gonzo). It was Derek who dropped out during the Free For All sessions, which is why Meatloaf sings on a lot of that record. But yeah, Nuge's bands were incredibly unstable, I think because a lot of people couldn't do with Nuge's ego.
I had the pleasure of playing with Derek in the mid 1990's. He was a great player and singer/songwriter. I love playing his original songs and the Nugent songs. Great guy and he was my favorite singer from the 1970's. I was lucky and still am to be able to call him a friend. He can still rock...keep on keeping on Derek!
Honestly, every time I see Derek perform, I just cant help but smile! Love his voice, and just seems like a great person! Ted Nugent shows are just not the same without DSH behind the mic!
DSH Oozez coolness, seen him solo a few times..AMAZING! First time he was to open for Trower, he got stuck in crappy weather, he got to The Penny Arcade about midnight, was sick as a dog but played his ass off to us 4 ppl that stuck around on a work night..great memories 🤘🎸🤘
Ted wasn't much of a vocalist, I think initially there wouldn't of been a Ted Nugent band as we knew it if he hadn't had Derek singing as well his spot on Rhythm guitar n lead fills. 🎸❤️🎵🎶🎵
Wow, kudos Derek for doing a song with such a high register on vocals, sounds good. If anybody doesn't think so, watch Robert Plant sing on the Live AIDS concert, that is a good reference point, lol.
Trivia Alert!!! This was the first rock song played on WKRP by Dr. Johnny Fever for the station's format change... I dare say the best "Ted Nugent" songs were actually Derek's!!!
Uncle Ted and Derek were great together. I just saw a vid from Ted he put a band together for a new tour but he didn't mention Derek hopefully he will add him.
When you grow up metro Detroit this is the "bar band" experience. Kick ass rock n roll type of Entertainment Deluxe. Fuck yeah. I think of all the huge national, hell international bands come thru. Growing up in Lincoln Park. I wonder does anyone remember Thursday nights at the Lincoln Park show?
