I have been using the max for several months now and I love it. I don't find it leaves any film on my skin. I am almost 62 and the fine lines around my mouth are gone. Love this product.
I've been using Neutrogena retinol cream since my early 20's but have started experimenting with different OTC retinol cream and higher end retinol products now that I'm in my 30's. A while ago saw another dermatologist youtuber recommending Paula Choice 2% retinol saying it's safe to use and very unlikely to cause irritation, so I bought one to try and within 2 days my skin started to peel and stayed inflamed for over a week. So I switched back to the Olay retinol 24 max and within 2 days my skin is back to normal, no more irritation/redness/flakiness. I personally don't find the 24 max to be all that thick, it's nice to put on before bed and by time I wake up my skin has absorbed all the product. Thanks for doing the comparison for us, I was tempted to get the original retinol 24 seeing the 2 pack deal on Costco, I may still get them to use for my hands and neck, saving 24 max on the face.
I just bought the Costco deal yesterday. I had previously bought the Olay Retinol 24 (not the Max) about a month ago. The product I got yesterday was the Olay Retinol + Peptides. I'm not sure what the difference is between the 2, but for the price ($6.00 off per jar!), I might grab another before the sale ends.
I am proud to be one of your 100K members! I love your sense about using retinol, and I appreciate you finding the over-the-counter varieties, and comparing them! Thank you for all you do to keep us in balance as we age! Since you have come into my life, I am also in love with my skin, maybe for the first time in my life!
That's funny I love the max one bc it is thick a little goes a long way. I feel like I have to use less. I don't have an issue with pilling at all. It's possible ppl use too much product. It is hands down my favorite night cream at the moment. It doesn't dry my skin out and I get the benefits of retinol.
Great info! You discussed not layering different rentinol products. What are your thoughts about using a prescription tretinoin on the face and an OTC retinol like Olay 24 on the neck? And is there any benefit to using retinol on the backs of the hand for anti-aging? Congrats on the 100K, your channel is one of my favorites!
That’s a great idea and method with separating the two retinoids based on location without layering! We def can’t forget treating the neck and backs of hands! And, thank you so much. Appreciate you 🙏🏼🙏🏼
I accidently bought the perfumed Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle repair so use that on my neck; chest and back of hands; and use the unscented (and more expensive) Olay 24 on my face.
New Subscriber, so glad I found your Channel. What do you think of using a moisturizer with hydraulic acid after prescription retinal. I live in a very dry area and heard it's not the best cuz if it can't draw moisture from the outside its starts taking from within the skin. I am current using climique 100 moisturizer with my retinal. Can you give your thoughts on that please..
I started using Olay retinol max 2 months ago and this is my first time using any retinol. I also bought Paulas Choice 1% to alternate only once a week but the Olay retinol max feels amazing and is wonderful, at least to my mid 50s skin. I think Olay Max feels incredible and I feel there are some mild results already.
@@chelseafu29Ive used both and prefer olay retinol max for oily/acne prone skin, but think the Paula's choice intensive retinol serum (with the vit c in it) is a better bet for drier/mature skin with sun damage.
I have been using the Max for 3 weeks. For me, it completely absorbs within about 1-2 minutes. I did peel a bit the first week, but I probably overdid it. OK, I soooo overdid it. Live and learn. It's all good now. I find it very moisturizing. While I don't see any changes yet my skin feels softer and has more glide to it.
I got a trial size of the original with peptides and yes, it absorbs well into the skin and does not leave a film which I love. It makes my skin feel satiny smooth. I may just stick with it because I can't stand to have a tacky feeling to my skin after I apply a product; it sounds like the max leaves that tacky feeling. Thank you for your video and clarifying the difference between the two products. 😊
Thanks for this 🙏. I have both but I got the normal one first. I haven’t yet opened the Max. I’ll definitely progress on to that. It’s great to know the difference. I also use the Olay Vitamin C AHA on a morning. If you aren’t too busy could you let me know if that combination is ok. I appreciate this is 4 months old but I hope you see it. Thank you for your time and succinct explanations. Helen UK.
Dr Sugai, Thank you for all you do to help us. I have been using LRP ADAPALENE for awhile and up to daily but i do give my skin a break on the weekends and use the OLAY Retinol 24 at night . Costco deal with rebate whoo-hoo!!! I am keeping a marathon mentality with skincare and more is not better !!! 😊
When you look at the ingredient list, the higher up the ingredient is on the list the more of it is in the jar. With this product retinol is one of the first five ingredients so there is quite a bit of it in there.
@@xornanbu really? That’s not bad, I searched and went above and beyond to know Olay’s retinol percentage. Finally went with 0.3% Neutrogena retinol. At least Neutrogena is upfront about their percentage
Now you have 103,000 subscribers, Dr. Sugai. That's because your channel, including your tic-tocs, are so informative and comical. Congratulations to you!🎉
I found Olay retinol disappointing because it rubs off into 'crumbs'. A cream should absorb into tbe skin, not form a sort of mask that can be rubbed off.
Hi From Everett! Just found you on You Tube. I used up my first jar of Olay Regenerist. Now I have begun using the Olay regenerist Retinol 24 max. As a woman of 59, my issues are sun spots and keeping everything bright and tight. I also have a history in my early 20s of cystic acne and used Acutane for 6 months. As for Olay, I began using the night time regenerist, as I needed a night cream without fragrance. It was a bit thin for me and using the 24 max, gives me a feeling of having a good layer on my face before bed. I haven't looked at all your videos yet, but could you do a video about the things to avoid when you are using a full strength tretinoin, like microdermabrasion, aggressive peels etc.? I am a cosmetologist within a day spa and my esthetician friends are saying there are treatments that they can do to help my age spots, but using retinol A is contraindicated. I had been on a super light does of .005 in a subscription type mix. I am not going to use it due to the idea that it is contraindicated for certain facial procedures. Ibwould just appreciate knowing your take on retinol use vs deep facials for removing age spots. Hope my ramble makes sense. TTFN.
I just started retinol max and for one night i can already see improvement, it seems like it’s fading my dark spot due to pimples. Right now I’m using retinol every other night, I don’t have lots of pimples, my concern is the texture of my skin, I came across this video and I thought I’ll give it a try. I also use kojic with tranexamic acid cream in my morning routine.
Woww you at 137k subscribers now congratulations 🎊🎈🎉🍾 doctor can i layer Winlevi with Olay retinol 24 Max ?? plz make a video on Winlevi and spironolactone topical comparison 🥺
Just started using the Max a week ago but my face is not smoother after a week. I know it takes a while but I thought maybe my face would at least be smoother after a week. I really do question the positive results of this cream. I’ve started my second week and my face itches and burns all the time. So ready to go back to my trusty old Ponds Cold Cream. It cleans and hydrates beautifully. Doesn’t take away fine lines and wrinkles but I don’t think Olay Regenerist 24 Max does either. It’s simply hyped .
Not that I'm looking forward to it, but I've been using Retinol 24 for over a month now and still has not experienced any peeling like others . I moisturize really well after each use, could it be that?
Thank you for sharing your expertise with us. You mentioned not using retinol around the eye area. Do you mean prescription strength or would that include the Olay 24 as well?
Very helpful. Question: The Ordinary makes a 5% RetiNOL in squalane and a 5% Granactive RetinOID in squalane. Is one more potent than the other? Thank you!
Hi Dr Sugai, I watch your videos recently and I love it, now I’m one of your subscriber, I’m 66 yrs old, I used shiseido products nothing change still my face is dry, So I want to try the olay retinol 24 and then from there go to retinol max, my question is, when I apply retinol 24 is it only small amount and can I use it day and night as a moisturizer thank you, more power to you
I rediscovered my Olay serums. Beautypedia gives them 5 stars - not sure if all of then...have to check, but I know the one I used this morning got 5 stars. Tone perfecting serum B and Vitamin C. Will see what happens 🙂
Congratulations!!! Love your content! What are your thoughts on mixing tretenoin with moisturizer before applying. I know that some dermatologists are okay with it but others aren’t. I mix my Altreno with vanicream moisturizer and was wondering if this would affect the Altreno effectiveness.
Thank you so so much!! Def no problem mixing tretinoin with moisturizer. I would say that the potency May go down a bit when mixing but it’s better than overdoing it and getting irritation. 👍👍👍
Would you please tell me when they say to reapply sunscreen do we need to wash the face ever time to reapply or can we reapply on top of the sunscreen we applied earlier. 🤔
I used retinol before but I stopped it. Its more than 5 months since I stop it. I decided to use retinol again specifically this brand. Is it ok for me to use it everyday?
I bought a the okay retinol peptide SPF30 for day . Should I use it ? I reading a lot people that said is better night time . Tanks doctor I will wait for your answer before using it .
Hi Dr. Sugar, I used Olay’s retinol + peptide 24 for a while. I noticed each time a lot of residues at both sides of face but not in the forehead, nose or around eyes after applying. I scrubbed face then use the moisturizer, but didn’t solve the problem. Can you please suggest any reason and solution?
I love your explanation on alternating the use of different kinds of retinoids. However, according to Dr Dray's point of view, alternating retinoids can increase the likelihood of unwanted irritation. She opts for choosing 1 type of retinoids, and use it consistently without alternating them. But, I still enjoy your content, Dr Sugai. Sending lots of love from Southeast Asia 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@monicaduncan7109 really? Personally I use tretinoin without even trying retinol first. Since I have acne prone skin, my skin is able to handle the irritation and dryness caused by it. But I don't know, maybe some people have differences when it comes to tolerability of retinoids. And I live in a constant hot and humid climate area where dryness is not something that I experience other than turning on my air conditioner.
@@NicePerson58 sorry maybe I wasn’t clear, I’m fine on the differin cream, I use every other night and when I started to use the retinol 24 on my off nights I got a whole lot of irritation, my face was red and peeling so I’m just gonna stick with my differin and use the remaining Olay retinol 24 on my neck and chest, because I can’t tolerate differin cream there, I’ve got 2 more tubes of differin to use up and then I’ll start my Tretinoin 0.025% which I have recently bought. I have eczema and sensitive skin so have to be very careful, and introduce products slowly. Long and steady wins the race 😊I’m from the UK btw so it’s always cold here
@@monicaduncan7109 I hope your journey with retinoids last long, yes you're right, being slow and steady still derive the benefit, considering the fact that you have eczema, your approach is always recommended.
@@gigistrailsandtales7203 well you are one of the lucky ones then, everyone’s skin is individual. For me personally it was overkill, and like all dermatologists have a difference of opinion, which can make information confusing sometimes 😊
I've seen it theorized that the regular is 0.25%, which would make the Max 0.3%. This seems plausible to me, since 0.3% appears to be a common percentage I've seen in other products. Wish I knew exactly what it was though.
Thanks Dr. I just bought the 24 Retinol Serum and the night Retinol 24 jar. How often can I used it per week ? Also can I wear the 24 Retinol Serum under my day cream?
I've been using the retinol 24 and I just started using the LA roche-posay hyaluronic acid serum. My question is, can I apply the hyaluronic serum and then apply the retinol 24 cream?? I use these at night together because I use a vitamin c serum in the morning with my olay collagen cream. I'm scared I'm doing it wrong Lol
Doc I am your avid follower may I ask if that is recommendable for seniors- fine lines wringkles and jawlines. How i wish you have budget size for us. TYVM from the Philippines.
Hello Dr. Sugai, I've been using the Olay Regenerist Retinol 24 for about 3 weeks now, daily. Is it okay to apply another moisturizer (Tatcha Dewy Cream) on top of this moisturizer?
I would love to see a video about layering, what you can and can not layer. I have been layering multiple retinoid products with no issue, I use La roche posay adapalene with Peter Thomas Roth retinol pm serum, and then use the olay regenerist 24 and a Tula protect and plump moisturizer which is very thick. I have been getting great results, but I took a long time to retinize my skin and go slow and get to a routine that is working for me, I don’t use my retinoids in the morning.
I'm living in a tropical country and I'd like to start using retinol.. I'd like to know how I should start off or perhaps if I could use it every night..
Start slowly. First not every day, but eventually if you can handle it, every night can be okay. But it's very important to use lots of sunscreen that you don't burn.
@@danielsugaimd yes I've been using it since January. My skin adjusted to it well, I find it very mild, however once I use it up I want to switch to the olay
