1. Using pimple patches while on accutane. 2. Using retinol in a wrong way. Too much, too often, or giving up too early. After that we should use moisturizer. Trying to find a good frequency. It takes months to see the difference. 3. Using too many skin products. Depends on skin type and problem we should choose the right one and stick with that. We should know our skin type. :) Too many skin exfoliating can give you irritation. 2-3 a week is fine, but not everyday.
Hello from Canada. I love your videos. I am a 2 time melanoma survivor. The last time was Stage 4 metastatic. I love that you are budget friendly and you spend time on the Skin Cancer awareness. You show sign and symptoms. Keep up your positive mood.
@danielsugaimd Signs and Symptoms are so important for Melanoma. I want everyone to check their skin. I would not wish what I am going through on anyone.
Thank you Dr. Sugai for sharing 😊 My skincare is very simple for my sensitive skin. My favorites are - the Neutrogena Ultra Gentle creamy cleanser, the Vanicream Moisturizing lotion and SPF 30 sunscreen 🥰 I exfoliate my skin every week with a Konjac sponge, very gentle on sensitive skin. Take care everyone 🌹
Love your informative videos! Whenever skincare marketing gets overwhelming, I turn to your voice of reason! Thank you for sharing your knowledge 😊😎👍👍🎉
I’ve been saying for years to all the people that say “it’s all natural” so is poison ivy!!! So glad to hear that from a dr. Thanks for all the info😊❤️
Yeah....I hate that exfoliating skincare products like scrubs and toners and such say on the bottle that you can use them twice daily. I have oily combo skin and so I picked up an entire line of acne products and used them as directed. I then added on a twice daily scrub on top of that....then I added on the Ordinary's 30% AHA peel....yeah. It was bad. Perioral dermatitis which kept coming back and I ended up treating with tacrolimus ointment....which can lower your immunity locally. I have cold sores and so using that got rid of the perioral dermatitis but then caused cold sores. Once all of that was finally mostly recovered, I created a more "normal" skincare routine, but for whatever reason, I am constantly having acne appear everywhere. It's a nice improvement over what was there not too long ago though, so I'm slowly trying to gently treat it. My skin was never sensitive before, but it's a lot more now. Though it's still not too terrible -- I spot treat the acne with salicylic acid once daily, and I've been able to use a gentle AHA/BHA wash off mask 3 times a week without feeling any irritation. I used to think the burning of those meant it was working....nope. If it burns, wash it off XD! That means your skin hasn't recovered enough to apply it again :P. Anyways, don't make the mistakes that I did -- listen to your dermatologist or just watch dermatologists' videos on youtube. Don't do what your favorite influencer does, and definitely don't do what the bottle tells you to do. Because the directions on the bottle are a lie :(.
I did go down a rabbit hole but climbed back out with only four products I found useful and that you suggested. Love, love, love Aquaphor, CeraVe, Naturium and Ulta MD sunscreen.
There are so many products I want to try and I have fun watching you and the other derms, too. I just limit myself to one new thing at a time so I don't go crazy.😊
How long do give a new skincare product to feel like it’s working? Obviously, when it’s not working or you get skin irritation, you know it’s time to stop.
If I have freckles or pigmentation, should I use vitamin c serum or the Vichy LIFTACTIV B3 serum? If I use vitamin c serum, which brand is better - Cerave, Cetaphil or Vichy?
My face was great! I starter using a great cream RX for my husband and i messed up my face now im dealing with so many issues i didnt have 😢😢😢😢 im a mess its so sad. When to my derm now i have to give it time 😢😢😢 thank u doctor ❤
Dr. Sugai, I have Hashimoto's Disease. Very brittle nails, and some eczema flare-ups around back of hands and around my eye lids. Can you recommend some vitamin supplements? I currently use OTC cortisone cream to spot treat, but am wondering if I can do more? I take iron supplement for anemia, Vitamin D3, Fish oil (for dry eyes). I am mainly worried about my nails. Deep nail ridges and have recently experienced one nail coming loose from the nail bed. I did not injure it and it is now growing back. Collagen? Vitamin E? Other? I need help! Also, I'm 59.
This would be a great topic for a video as I can talk about nails and especially brittle nails and the data behind biotin supplementation. Thanks for the comment and take care 🙏
Would love your thoughts on the "all natural organic" granola crunchy skincare movement. I have gotten sucked in but am thinking it is a marketing ploy? Also, what are your thoughts on facial oils v. Facial creams and/or moisturizers.
Hi Dr Sugai, if I start to flake from my retinoid, should I back off for a couple days? Sometimes it will happen without any other symptoms, such as wind, burn, sensitivity, or redness it’s just simply the flaking. Otherwise, my skin feels fine. Thanks for always sharing your knowledge with us! Jackie from Philly.
I don't believe he has a video like that at the moment but derms like Dr. Jenny Liu, Skin by Dr. Azi, Dr Dray and Dr Alexis Stephens (body hyperpigmentation) have videos.
I had cystic acne on my face, chest, and back. I did one 3 month treatment 40 years ago and it was one of the best decisions ever. The dermatologist thought I might need two treatments, but he concluded one did the trick. Cleared up my acne, but still have some scaring What's the best way to get rid of the scaring? Lasers? Thanks for all the great information.
Is it ok to alternate retinols? Lets say I have the cerave resurfacing retinol and the olay regenerist... is it ok to use one one evening then a couple nights later use the other?
I would rather go stronger on the otc retinol potency than play with slugging as it’s hard to keep that standard and consistent (could apply more or less petrolatum on various days). Good question!
Have you heard of Panoxyl? How do you feel about it and what do you think would be the best toner paired 😭 help and moisturizer if you have the time. I sort of have oily skin but not too bad and definitely not dry
Dr. Sugai, thanks so much for all of your thoughtful and professional opinions. Your advice is always spot on and I find your my “go to’ when I have a question. It seems you almost always have the answer. Like you, I vowed to make this new year one in which I STOP watching so many influencers and stick with only a couple that I trust. Also, I vowed to cut back on having too many products! It’s expensive and unnecessary!!! Thanks again!!!!
You made my day with this! Thank you so much for your trust- I won’t take it for granted as the space is filled with information and you’re right the credibility of the source always needs to be determined before acting on the information. Appreciate you! 🙏❤️
Hello from Canada. You are amazing. I am a stage 4 melanoma survivor. Thank you for your skincare videos, but MOST importantly, the videos on Skin Cancers signs and symptoms.
Dr. Sugai, thank you for your advice. For the “sandwich “ method on applying moisturizer while using retinoid, how many minutes approximately do we have to wait before and after applying the retinoid to apply the moisturizer? Or does it matter?
Number 3 definitely happened to me. We watch these videos and these influencers talk about what all they use and how it helps. I ended up putting to much and then had to back off from it all and start back over because of contact dermatitis.
You do an excellent job on your videos, so thank you. The real life product information is great, having seen many dermatologists and being on Accutane twice. Any reviews or opinions on mud masks? Again, well done information.
After Retinol is it recommended to wait a couple minutes to put the moisturizer or right away? Overall info on waiting or not after products day and night would be great 😅 been looking for one
I would like to ask before I buy Retinol. I know Retinol is in the serum step. Can I use it with Estee Lauder advance night repair considering if I'm going to buy CeraVe Resurfacing Retinol
Ever since I've discovered your videos, I am very inspired and so glad for all the knowledge and information you share as an honest dermatologist!!! Thank you so very much!!! Greetings from Texas!!!
I have cystic acne as an adult (40). The waitlist to see a dermatologist after getting a doctor’s approval is months. This helps! I did get peri-oral dermatitis. I was using an organic jojoba oil on my face .
Thank you for your very informative videos! I would like to start using an over the counter retinol, however, I'm having the hardest time finding one that does not contain acrylic acids, do you happen to know of any? Thank you!
How about something I heard about a few years ago. My friend told me her ex’s mother, diabetic, was scheduled for a leg amputation in 3 days, they kept rubbing 40% zinc cream (baby butt paste) all over it. Went in for operation and doctor said I don’t know what you’re doing but keep it up, no operation. Now I’m diabetic and got that stuff. Got a tiny sore that wasn’t healing and turned into a pimple, put that stuff on it, next day almost totally gone. Also a few times I felt a sore coming on between my toes, rubbed it in, next day gone. Maybe face pimples too??? Bought Target store brand, $2.97.
Thank you Dr. Sugai. May I ask please, if I can use cerave acne gel in the morning, and adapalene at night, using both with cerave moisturising lotion with niacenamide for daily use? Please, reply..🥺 Thanks in advance..
Absolutely false! Retinoids are KNOWN and documented teratogens and can lead to serious malformations. Pleeeease Google, chat with your OB etc retinoids activate retinoic acid receptors which drive organ development in the body
This is 💯 False. I'm a molecular biologist and retinoids are a known teratogen and can cause serious developmental abnormalities. Retinoids work by activating retinoic acid receptor driven genes which are master regulators of cell growth and differentiation and are critical for organ development esp the eyes
Another great vid. I am a ROC fan for the past nine years but have recently added the Tatcha line for mature skin (I am a kupuna😎). Am a little confused as to how to add Tatcha to my current skin care system so am just using their rice moisturizer for now. 🫶🏻🌺💕
