Hi Dr, i'm a 29 years old female living in QC, Canada. I have combination oily and dehydrated skin + allergic eczema. As you guessed, i had trouble finding a good routine. I have tried maaaaaaaaany products and.. Here's what working best : -inkey list cleansing balm -cerave oily skin cleanser -la roche posay toner effacer -inkey list hyaluronic acid -the ordinary niacinamide+ zinc -peptide cream -cerave night/day moist. +uriage water It is a lot, but i learned to enjoy every step of this Journey.❤
I love the La Roche-Posay Toleraine double repair line (with SPF in the AM, without SPF before bed). I'd love to hear your layering tips for those with oily/combo skin who want to use a light or mattifying moisturizer alongside an SPF product (rather than a combo product) and still balance hydration and sun protection against managing shine and that "heavy" feeling as the day wears on!
I’ve tried a few diff brands n only recently turned to Cetaphil. Using that moisturizer n dermacontrol line. I got Oily, acne prone, n sensitive skin. Cetaphil doesn’t cause any irritation n leave my skin feelin good .
The Neutrogena one is FABULOUS! It goes on like an expensive, luxury cream and dries with a slight glow but no shine! I use it in my morning skincare routine.
So excited to share my new Triple Crown! (so far 😉 ) Having acne prone (still), mature (over 55), oily, sensitive skin w/ lines and wrinkles, I've layered so many products over the years! Previous combinations lacked helping at least ONE of these issues and I couldn't stand having 6 products in the am and 6 for the night....Forget about using makeup.(other than mascara)..I just wanted my skin to look "good/better" ! (I have used many types of concealer/cover up as needed too but that's not, IMO, "makeup") So....to my "TC".....I'm now using the 1) Cleanser w/Benzoyl Peroxide as the gentle, pore antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory cleanser w/ CeraVe Acne Foam Cleanser, 2) Treating w/the Retinoid to regulate skin cell turnover w/La Roche-Posay Effaclar 0.1% and 3) Moisturizing w/the Mattifying and Clearing benefits of Salicytic acid w/Cetaphil Gentle Clear Mattifying Acne Moisturizer! I've got all the powerplayers..Benzoyl Peroxide, Retinoids, Salicylic Acid and a great moisturizer!! My skin's not irritated! Dr Ellis, your videos are EPIC and so Educational. After so many notes taken from many many videos, I have found a simplified (for me) combo that works...(we know skin changes with each decade it seems and over time, we have to re address our issues. For the next decade, though, I'm hopeful) (I have to find a better SPF that plays well with these now...but I'm working on that. I do use one but I'm "meh" about it) As for the rest of the body, I use the Vaseline Advanced Repair as some of the other comments state...It's just SO GOOD.. Thank you for all you do!
Decided to help my teen daughter. I dug into all this face product stuff to figure out what she may need. Your channel was helpful. She breaks out bad on the forehead. So we got some fiber gummy’s and have her drinking more water. Also bought some cleanser and moisturizer from cetaphil. I picked the gentle clear moisturizer from cetaphil. Wash and moisturize x2 morn and eve. We will see how it plays out 🙏🏾. As a dad I wasn’t sure if I was over stepping, but as a dad I also wasn’t scared of that to much 😂. She seemed relieved to have some help and excited to try something. I brought her along to the store and had her help me find the products that I had written down. Also buying some some new pillow cases to have fresh one every night. If all this doesn’t work I’ll take her to a skin doctor. 🙏🏾
omg youre such a sweet dad... i was so concerned about my skin as i was breaking out TERRIBLY on my forehead too and so i told my mom about how i wanted her to bring me to a skin doctor and she literally told me that it would just go away on its own.... 🙄anyway i went to the doctor by myself and im so glad i did because my skin improved so much after 🥺 you are definitely not overstepping at all and im sure your daughter would be so thankful to have such a great dad like you :)
Oily and dehydrated is 100% my skin! My favorite moisturizers have to be gel creams with my 2 favorites the Versed Dew Point Moisturizing Gel Cream and the Selfless by Hyram Niacinamide and Maracuja Barrier Repair. During the winter I used the Pacifica Vegan Ceremide Cream and it worked so well! I never thought I could use a cream and not feel greasy (not a glazed donut face fan) but that cream is a gem! It is so lightweight and matte/natural finish! It was like my skin was bare but totally smooth and moisturizered.
This is so helpful. I hate moisturizer but my skin is oily and dry like you said which makes it dehydrated. I’m actually so happy I found this video, thank you!!!
Oil and hydration is not the same of course, and dehydration can make your skin want t produce more oil. I think you, like me, would do well with light gel like products that soothe your skin, keep your skin barrier happy, and keep skin hydrated. A lightweight moisturizer will help to lock in some hydration without clogging the pores. I definitely had to learn to be gentle with my skin, and avoid stripping my skin too much. Lightweight, soothing products, nothing too harsh but also nothing to heavy will be so helpful for oily and dry skin!
I’m a rosacea patient w/ extremely oily skin in a hot/humid climate and have tried commonly known good products: CeraVe, LRP, Cetaphil… (few make peace with my 🌹😢). Just to share my personal experience, only oil-free line of Aveeno and Avène don’t sting my face at the end. Vanicream lotion don’t sting my face as well but it’s a bit greasy on me ha. Love ya, doc! You helped me a lot on my rosacea management journey.
Im sorry that this was still the case for you. When I learned that my skin barrier was impaired from too many products and harsh facials, i switched to CERAVE moisturizer and cleanser (the green cleanser). Believe it or not, upon first few uses of both products my skin was slightly burning/stinging. I was surprised because this was the gentle skin care line meant to help me repair my barrier. I did some research and many people were saying the same thing. However, one person wrote that this happens when your skin is sensitized and to continue with the products as they will repair your skin. I had a feeling it was my skin that was the problem and not so much Cerave. Long story short, my skin is now balanced and healthy and plump again ( i was developing lines and dullness) and I am glad I persevered with cerave. By no means am I suggesting you do the same, however I just wanted to share this experience to consider. Please take cake :)
I have oily sensitive skin I used Neutrogen boost didn’t like it that much , but now La Roche posay is my favourite. Works well with my oily skin during the day and my makeup looks beautiful and not greasy wit it
The Neutrogena hydro boost makes my skin feel tingly/ a slight burning sensation so it makes me feel a little hesitant to use it...I bought the trial small bottle so once I finish it I'll switch to a different one
Great video! I actually started using OSEA blemish balm months ago, and it is the only product or moisturizer that I have ever used that has reduced the severity of my hormonal breakouts while also keeping my overall oily, blemish-prone skin in check. It feels lightweight. It’s fast-absorbing and also has worked great under my makeup mattifying my skin. When I’m not using that, I use the neutrogena hydro-boost gel.
How long does tret take to change your skin type? I was using cerave and now thinking to switch to hydroboost and after completion of accutane will start tret
@@Atiya111nisar I noticed clearer skin on tret after about 3-4 months. My skin is still combination (oily t zone) but my breakouts are pretty much gone.
Thanks, Dr. Ellis! This is a great list of products for oily skin. I've tried all of them except for the Skinfix one which I will have to order online since it's not available at any of the stores near me. I like them all for the reasons you stated and always have at least one on hand (usually La Roche Posay), but the product that I return to whenever my skin is acting up or feel extra sensitive is Vaseline Advanced Repair in the huge 22 oz. pump bottle. It's gentle yet super moisturizing when applied on damp skin. It gives my skin a "reset" by calming it down and it's great under sunscreen or makeup.
I have super oily skin and I totally misunderstood how to manage it for a long time. I recently discovered that several light hydrating layers i.e. toners, essences, and serums under a lightweight slightly occlusive moisturizer works best for me. It gets the hydration in there without clogging up my pores and I can use the serums etc...to target soothing my extra red skin as well as hydrating.
I love Neutrogena Hyro Boost. I use the extra dry because I prefer that is sent free. I wish Neutrogena would do refills of this because you go through it fast! It’s such a bulcky packaging for how little comes in it. 🌎✨
I’ve tried several “mattifying” products (DHC velvet, FAB, Neutrogena...) to no avail. I was just going to give up, but hopefully fourth times the charm. 😅 Fingers crossed for the la roche version.
Would you be able to do a video on the history, safety, efficacy of semi permanent facial makeup/tattooing? Curious on how it is affected by other cosmetic treatment over time (light therapy, laser, etc)
I've used the Cerave and I really like it, be aware the the bigger pot it's another story. Wanna try the Cetaphil one, but we don't have that in Perú 🇵🇪
I love the Cetaphil Gentle Clear moisturizer! Only issue is that I can't use it at night with my Differin gel or my skin will be too irritated, but it works great during the day or on nights off
@@arturomontagna6757I would say go for a more hydrating and light cleanser and moisturizer at night as salicylic acid can make differin gel less effective. I use salicylic acid cleansers in the morning but at night before bed I go with a light cleanser and apply differin with the neutrogena hydro boost
Ingredient list IS important no matter what is written on the packaging/jar. I do not have oily skin, yet I wanted a lighter GEL type moisturizer for the warmer spring days. My skin is more shiny and oily than it has been during harsh winter months when I tend to use richer textures. Again, "gel" on the jar made my non-oily skin oily (shiny, greasy, sticky). And I'm talking about serious dermatological (not drugstore) brand.
Of course nothing is perfect or 100% applicable. Just giving tips to use as a guide, especially for those who are less familiar with various ingredients and how they may interplay with one another.
Thanks for this and all of your educational videos. Unfortunately HBO is running a fear mongering series on women’s cosmetics and skincare products. The Eco Well has a new podcast with cosmetic science tests debunking it.
Love your videos. Can you do a video on monthly skincare treatments you recommend? Like do you recommend getting microdermabrasion once a month? Or any particular laser? Thank you!
Would you please do a video about a proper skincare routine with and without retinol? I’m 41 and it can be very confusing. I use retinol every other night.
I have acne prone, sensitive, oily skin. Do you think salicylic acid or Differin gel would work better for my skin. I’m not sure which one to choose between the two.
I have oily skin. Sort of Combo- for mature skin I have Normal to oily skin. It doesn't get dry or flaky, except a little around the mouth in the winter. I started using Bliss Vitamin C collagen and tri-peptide moisturizer. I like using clean products on my face. I haven't tried La Roche-Posay yet. What other moisturizers or clean ones can you recommend for reducing pores and anti-aging?
Thank you very much Dr Sam for this educational video, keep up the good work😊💐. I have a question, I usually use for my face NEUTROGENA MOISTURE® Oil-Free SPF 30, Im happy with this product but I need a higher SPF so, is there an equivalent product preferably from the same brand with a higher SPF( 50 maybe)??? Just to let you know I have a combination skin( normal on cheeks and forehead but the sides of the nose and around the mouth a-little oily ( on the two sides of the mouth they tend to be dry)
These are great. LRP toleriane new gel for oily skin. I like this much better than the LRP mat. Which I do not like at all, and beautypedia rates that low. It cosmetics confidence in a gel - beautypedia gives 5 stars FAB ulta repair Hydrating serum - 5 stars, beautypedia - more of a gel Beautypedia likes the cetaphil pro oily skin oil absorbing moisturizer spf30, as do I. Five stars And differin oil control broad spectrum spf30, also 5 stars
Are there any notable ingredients or products for people with oily skin and rosacea? I know there are some ingredients that are good for one but irritating for the other. It feels like oily skin with rosacea is a paradox
I try to wash my face often but I’ve come to realize that when I use normal to dry skin face washes they don’t clean the oil off my face but when I use oily skin face washes they dry my skin out so much that my face produces so much oil and feels even worse then before, I’ve tried to use moisturizers to fix this idk what to do, have any idea or tips?
Would you please consider making a video about moisturizer recommendations that are both vegan and cruelty-free, using the Logical Harmony database? I personally would greatly appreciate it as I try my best best to find good products that meet those criteria.
@@MyCornerF No problem at all❤ I'm a vegan myself. What's more, I also wear cruelty-free sunscreen. My go-to is Altruist Sun (a charity/dermatologist brand) with a 5 star UVA protection (offers almost the same amount of UVA as UVB protection; UVA-PF/SPF > 0.9) and it's dirt cheap (also cruelty-free and coral-friendly). Me (w/ a photosensitive disorder) don't underuse amount of my sunscreen and affordability is important as a long-term investment.
@@MyCornerF 😊 I’m all about protecting our skin based on profound scientific evidence without costing the environment and killing animals. However, I hate greenwashing and pseudoscience claims (aka. BS)
Love the video! I am looking for a moisturizer because I have oily skin and prominent pores. Which one would you recommend? I was thinking about the Eucerin serum triple effect but am not sure
I really need to get a good routine going. I have always had oily skin, but once I hit my 40’s my skin changed and now it’s more combination. Oily with dry patches. I’m 48 now so as well as having large pores I’m dealing with fine lines. Any advice on the best routine for my skin ?
I use Cetaphil oil control moisturizer for the day I’m looking for a moisturizer for the night that won’t clog the pores cause you to brake out and comedogenic
Could you recommend an oily skincare products that i can access at walmart? I have oily skin, lots of texture, and sensitive skin. I struggle with finding the products that dont irritate my skin, and can never use cleansers daily. My biggest wish is finding a cheap way to not have pimples.
I have spent so much money buying Josie Maran skin care but I always seem to go back to the hydroboost. But then someone online will say oh it’s garbage and then I’ll go back to the Josie Maran. I go back-and-forth which one is really better?
Thank you ma'am...I love the video I have an Oily skin, that gets so Oily especially during the day ...but my skin is sensitive too.. My face is ok, just need a moisturisers to help especially for pores ...so I am thinking of la Roche posay pr cetaphil...which one will u recommend with my explanation
Helo ma'am....I am a beginner, and I would love to know the best moisturiser for my type of oily skin .. I have more whiteheads and sometimes irritation around my nose area
hi! new subsciber here! have a quick queation, I live in a very dry & hot weather, I’ve read using hyaluronic acid can over dry my skin cause there’s no moisture/water in the air to grab from, what do you think about this? 🤓
Can you use the Cerave pm in the morning as well?? Could I use this as my only moisturizer or would you recommend two separate oens for morning and evening? Thanks xx
I have oily skin, but I still don't know why the Neutrogena moisturizer broke me out so bad after the first few days of using it. Could it be the fragrance?
My boyfriend has combination skin but the T zone, neck and ears are extremely oily. He also has rosecea. I got him Kiehl's oily skin line, but he said it doesn't help with his oily skin throughout the day. So you recommend anything from your list? Thanks
If my skin gets a little dry after using cerave SA but doesn’t feel irritated should I still use moisturizer? Throughout the day it does get pretty oily on my nose and forehead though
Can anyone please help me, so I'm using jumiso vitamin c and snail mucin from cosrx together but I'm using a new face cream which is the benzaderm excess oil moisturizer it mattifies. I wanted to know is the matifying bad to use with skincare like is it basically just absorbing all the product I put on my face?
