The ABCDE rule helps dermatologists check freckles that could potentially be cancerous. The method uses the following criteria for checking moles: asymmetry, border, color, diameter, and evolution.
If one half of a mole is different than the other, if the border is asymmetric, if the mole has more than one color, if it's larger than a pencil erraser, or if a mole changes over time, doctors say you should have it checked by a professional.
