"I've got my pen" Well fuck can't go no where without a pen these days, Derren is such a gentleman for making sure that man had his pen returned to him.
The guy would have felt a mix of safety and nerves as Derren explained what he was doing and there was a camera crew with him, if a random stranger on his own had gone up to the guy and started that it wouldn't have worked, Derren was doing an extreme version of pick pocketing
Simple to defend against this: keep a respectful distance between you and everyone else, and if someone touches you, act germaphobic. Another thing, people steeling your stuff do not like publicity, speak to them loudly, make sure others see them. Another tip, keep your valuables (wallet, or cell) in your front pocket so you can feel it's presence.
can somebody please tell me what show is this from? I pride myself in having watched all of Derren's shows (as available) several times, but I don't recall seeing this scene ever before. thanks!
When somebody gets in your personal space unannounced, the nervous system is overwhelmed. Then when that potential threat behaves in a way outside of your learned experience, again, more floods of chemicals into the nervous system. It's a horrible bullying tactic. I hope the victims had prior warning!!
I went to NY a while back and felt someone's hand in my back pocket at least once every subway ride. It's a really good thing I bought one of those incognito fanny packs, but I doubt that would protect my stuff from Darren.
He was successful in this video because he picked someone who never defends their own boundaries. He was an easy target for sure. But a good champ about it. It makes me feel sorry for people like this. They usually go through a lot in life because they are way too nice and see the good in everyone.
Its different when you're suddenly being recorded by a professional TV crew next to a celebrity. If that was just some random dude instead he wouldn't have gone with it. Real pickpockets make sure they are never seen, this is one is for the cameras only.
@@Android480 valid point! Plus catching someone off guard doesn’t help matters. You don’t have the time to process things as well as you would in your normal day to day grind. Definitely a lot to look at.
@janfolkertsma actually, i think that the watch is just as unbelievable. if it's a standard buckle, it takes too long to unbuckle it, it's hard not to feel it since you kind of have to push against the wrist to take it off anyway. If it's a clasped bracelet, it has to come off over the hand, which is again suspicious - i would definitely feel that
@filipe30 It's because he's kind of bewildered at Derren's in-your-face kind of approach. Being distracted by his fast talking and instructions, quick movements around his body, and the fact that cameras are pointing at him. All these things contribute to not being fully aware of everything on your person. It doesn't work on everyone by the way, not everyone is susceptible to pick pocketing..
@luckasjes If you look at what he actually gives back, it's just his wallet, phone, watch, and tie. He gives his phone and wallet back to him 2 or 3 times.
Yeah I thought so too, I've seen other guys demonstrate this much smoother. It's not like having an entire camera crew with you is a very realistic scenario of pick-pocketing either. But I do like how he stole his mobile two more times after already having returned it to him the first time.
Pickpockets him then continues to pickpocket him whilst telling him he is being pickpocketed by a pickpocketer say this sentence over and over the word begins to sound silly hhaha
Something similiar happend to me when i was in India, as soon as i left the airport a group of woman came running up to me, all asking for money. 1 minute later my watch, my wallet and some other stuff were gone :x
i am pretty sure some people like me are hyper alert and victim of abuse as a child which made us looked for danger and wont let people touch like that. What if a robber ran into a guy with martial art background and hyper alert?Iknow it because I never get caught by jump scare, very quick reflex, was never hypnotized by any traditional means including instant hypnosis. If I am that thief i would be paranoid to run into one of those like myself
No offence, but some people live in a focking bubble if they don't get suspicious when a random guy comes up to them and starts touching them like this.
Normally, people are so taken aback at the sight of a news crew and a camera thrust in their face, worrying about how they might appear on a programme, about other people looking at them on the station, if they might be late getting to work, if girlfriends at home might wonder at the woman sharing the same bench - and a load more other questions, that someone fussing around you, thrusting a paper in your hand, giving you verbal instructions, leading you to stand in a particular spot, and worrying about a microphone is quite enough to have on your mind. If anyone felt anything at all, they'd probably think Derren was straightening up lapels and collars for appearance's sake. You would not expect to be pickpocketed while on camera, that's the opposite expectation.
