Derrick Morgan performs at the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival in Boonville, California on June 22, 2014, on the Village Stage. This is the whole show.
The wonderful and Talented Mr Derrick Morgan. I'm so happy to see him I'm Jamaican and I never met him Thank God I get to see him.Beautiful Soul.Blessed My Brother Derek Morgan.God love you and so do I Blessup the Family. Thank you my Brother😂😅😊
Derrick Morgan -- The Prince of Ska -- introduced Desmond Dekker, TootsMaytals, & Bob Marley to Ska music before there was even Reggae. Recorded tunes with the Legendary Duke Reid whilst Jamaicans was still dancing to Mento/Calypso. Had slight eyesight problems early in his career. -------- in 2021 The Man --- Is --- Legend!
I watched the set that day and at one point said DAMN---THIS BAND sounds like a killer New Orleans Rhythm & Blues Band in 1957----Mr. Morgan, pure Foundation, in fine voice and spirit. Another sure-shot from the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival, under the redwoods of Mendicino County California...
MR .MORGAN IN THE BUSINESS A WHILE FROM MY MOM AND GRANDMOTHER DAYS.HE WAS YOUNG THOSE YEARS FROM 'SKA AND 'MENTO' DAYS.I WAS TOLD SO BY MY MOM.SO HE IS INDEED LEGENDARY.(ICON)🤗
Big up! Where is prince Buster? Derrick and Prince beat up each other with music. Trust me i was a little child listening to Derrick and Prince loving the dram of the two of them. Blessings to the brothers.
He must have written these songs in his sleep - so many wonderful tunes. Like to think we are related somewhere - my great grand daddy came from Jamaica and his name was Morgan!!!! Not likely though - there are thousands. Huge respect for all his achievements and for spreading ska, blue beat, rock steady, reggae etc around the world. He has outlasted so many and for this he should be made a knight of the world!! X
Wow just saw this video on my feed.Salute to the icon Derrick MORGAN.ALWAYS WELL DRESSED.I THINK HE LOST HIS VISION.UNFORTUNATELY..BUT THAT DID NOT STOP HIS PERFORMANCE.GREAT DANCER.🤗
Not much better than listening to Derrick Morgan sing 'Mississippi Lulu' under the redwoods at Sierra Nevada. Hopefully this video will live forever, it's a classic.
WHAT...!!!! He still is!! And will Always stay so til his last dying days will Always Sound Amazing I just saw him recently at The El Rey theater in Los Angeles and he lit that dancefloor on fire 🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥💥 KING OF SKA "MR. DERRICK MORGAN"
I know Derrick Morgan over 60 years,I know him since about 1960 or 62 him and Prince Buster was going at it.The man who responsible for music fraternity in Jamaica before Derrick Morgan was born, his name is Vere John opportunities show on RJR station. That man who addiction all of them,Vere John found Bob Marley, and Alton Ellis, Millie Small, Vere John died in 1966. The first man in Jamaica recorded a song long before Derrick Morgan is Harry Belanfonte, mento was the first music played in Jamaica. Long time before ska, Rocksteady and reggae, anyway I remember when Derrick Morgan sang the song for the Jamaica independence august 6 th 1962 . I was there dancing to the song,in 1962 ok.
And i recorded him in June at the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival. He sat for this show, but his voice is still strong, it was a great show. I will upload it in the next few days hopefully, otherwise next week.
So Dear he is to me. Ska would be lost without him. Big up put your hands in the air and skat all over dancefloor in honor and Respect to The Living Legend Mr.Derrick Morgan.

This brother is doing these hits the same way he did them 56 years ago. This is unparallel to any other live performance in the same space of time. Original!
And now in 2023 on the grand stage at SNWMF he stole sooo many hearts! From a wheelchair he wailed and rocked and inspired us to screams and tears!!! What a gift he gave us a few days ago. I feel so blessed by his performance.
so theres this guy, a ska legend, old as a stone, hardly manages to get on stage, singin with all of his soul, just to be backed by some freshmen ruining nearly every second song by not following the singer. @schmidthorst69 theyre playing really tight yeah, but shouldve learnt the tunes. there are just three chords anyway, ska aint no rocket science. its a shame and disrespectful!
Sebastian Pehle oh dear if only you knew the situation of festival...visa issues and no rehearsal time were factors at play .this band actually backed three legends this festival and had to go off no rehearsal and watching eachother for cues aswell as derrick ..great backing band and a shame you came here to talk negatively sitting behind ur keypad talking shit like you know the situations these musicians and legends have to go through
