Rose retiring is a bittersweet thing for me. He was definitely a generational type talent when we got him, wasted no time showing that. It really felt like we had an MJ again. And it was real. After his injury? It was great that he got back to have a career. But the team never did, really. At that time or as an organization. Guys like Derrick...players like him....come along almost never. His loss...and I mean that to injury and how his game was affected...impacted us in a way we just couldn't overcome. I think the hope we'd return to the glory of the MJ years remained so long as Rose remained. He'd get better and better, heal up right, those "flashes" were still there. Just a matter of time until he's jumping outta the gym again. Once Rose put on that Knicks jersey, though? My rose colored glasses came off. They got back on when we got 'Zo, AC, Deebo, Vooch. But tbh I never believed in THAT team. I thought "maybe in a few years" and "this could be something, maybe." But it never felt organic, natural, homegrown. It was a shot in the dark built around our "poor man's Derrick Rose." Our would be "Rose 2.0." But Zach ain't "him" in anyway. Not Rose...or in the broader sense of the word. Who knows how much longer it will be until we truly recover from losing Derrick. No end in sight atm. So far as "one day contracts" and all that? I don't want it...I hope Rose doesn't, either. For what reason? What purpose does it serve, and who does it serve. And its just sort of sad imo. Keep that door closed imo. Celebrating glories is not something we can afford. Ring Of Honor? I hate it. The fact it's an ongoing thing is an lol imo. We're gonna run out of players to honor real soon. In fact we already have! Derrick will be the last probably until the end of time. We ain't the Lakers or Celtics. It's time we stop pretending we are. I'd love to see Derrick's jersey retired, though. And a return to the arena for "Derrick Rose Night." It would be great if he remains in basketball its associated with the Bulls, too. Somewhere along the way, at least. We'll see.
