*Note: Grabagun, from whom I purchased this lists a 3.86" barrel model, but the model I received, and manufacturer spec is 4". Full review with specs, pricing, sources: www.gbgunsdepot.com/post/rock-island-derya-arms-dy9
Thanks for the reviews you do! I have come to really appreciate your platform and how you and your team present it. I’m not sure what’s going on with RU-vid, but I get notification on people I have never watched, but none on you and a few others that I have notifications on to get. Again thanks to you and teya and others for your honesty and unbiased reviews. I’m a underdog kind of person and have many tools based on your reviews!!
Graham, the stated barrel length and height are off at most retailers, which I think may be either Rock Island's fault or a failure in communication between Derya and Rock Island or Rock Island and the distributors. The folks at GrabAGun located in suburban Dallas near me are good people, so I don't think there's anything intentional. In addition to barrel length being 4.01" rather than 3.86", I believe the height is just above 5" rather than 4.56". I did suggest to Derya the info needs to be cleaned up. As to price, there is a black optics ready version and black/FDE non-OR versions, which accounts for some of the retail price differences, though clearly Derya has decided to price aggressively to get guns out in the US marketplace. Whether the DY9 is a great deal really depends how it functions compares to, among others, the Tisas FX-9 or the Sar 9 either of which would only cost a bit more.
@@driftitlikeyouownit I have the old Lion X4 which is more or less an M4 knockoff. They used to run $289, but that was then. Anyway, it's been a good one, I've never had a failure of any kind, even with mag slugs.
I made it to the range with mine yesterday. It's a range toy for now. Both mine and a friend's had issues. Mine had a couple of feed issues, action wouldn't close all the way. And mags became tough to put in, like they wouldn't go, friend just said to push harder and that worked as it'd appear the mag catch might have a sharp angle on it. Manual says 500 round break in. I'll do that in daylight when I can see better. I'm going to tear down and do a full inspection and polish areas to try and improve the issues I experienced. Accuracy is on par with other clones. My friend had extraction issues, I think it's due to steel case ammo as I've had similar issues even with high end guns like HK.
Purchased this DY9. Took it apart and lubricated it with Lucas gun oil. Took it to the range. Shoot 100 rounds with Fiocchi 115grain with no issues. Shot great and feels great in your hand. I put in some Hornandy hollow points and racked th slide and then wanted to rerack the slide so the round would eject but couldn't do so. Had to smack the rear of the gun hard for it to eject the round. So maybe it doesn't like certain ammo. Overall, a great buy. Stay safe and always practice.
Nice looking pistol. We look forward to your range review. Maybe a good pistol for those on a limited budget, or just someone looking for a compact pistol. Have a great weekend 😎🙏
designed like an XDM that's not full ambidextrous with a tiny Glock takedown lever and it takes Glock mags one thing i do like is they took the safeties off that the XDM had
I did some window shopping after you mentioned this coming up for review, and the price seems pretty darn good. I am eager to see your tests and give the gun some time to be tested by yourself and others, but if it performs well then I'm definitely going to be interested in getting one.
Trigger: mine seems to be a bit better than yours based on how you described. Guessing they're hit or miss on consistency at this price point. Also, my lower where the metal rails are had excesss polymer I had to scrape out of several spots. Still not bad for $179 + tax/ship/ffl....
I found this brand a coyple of months ago and i was wondering who imported them. Then i saw them coming up for sale. Thank you for showing this pistol i was wanting to see if its worth it.
Hey thanks for review very hard to find much on this pistol. I actually just ordered one same black on FDE frame. Looking forward to a range report. I’ve also heard they take Glock 19 mags so that’s a bonus.
Graham, an open question is whether a 17 round Glock 17 or 15 round Glock 19 mag fits best. The included mag has an unusually high base plate to fit flush with the magwell. A Glock 19 mag will be recessed into the magwell, not flush with the bottom. Too bad Rock Island imported it with only one mag because the pistol is packaged with two mags in Europe and Turkey. I like many things about the pistol, but the trigger has given me pause. It's reported to have a 6.3 pound pull and as you noted, it's a bit long. Seems like it doesn't break right after you push past the "wall." That said, I guess it's Glock-like but not being a Glock fanboy, I don't know. I presume it will accept Glock after-market parts, so presumably the trigger can be lightened. Good to see you can fit 3 fingers under the trigger guard which I wondered about because the pistol is only about 5" high. Lastly, I've been in contact with Derya via email and they are very responsive with information so that's a big plus. We await your shooting impressions. Thanks for the review.
Saw one for $199 the other day. If it runs 100% it would be a good option for a carry gun you wouldn't mind giving up after a self-defense situation. Sometimes i wish you would test triggers on glock clones with the mag inserted, it changes the feel
Got this for $200 a week ago, finally getting to the range this weekend. I’ve never owned a Glock (wild I know) but I’ve heard this is closest to the 17
I was looking forward to acquiring an STK. Since RIA has this in their product line, maybe I will wait for it to reach our shores. I am guessing that price may become an issue since some of the derya products sold here by RIA are a bit higher in amount due to taxes.
If that's not completely interchangeable with gen 3 and 4 glock parts, I'd be very surprised. You should really try swapping out some of those parts off camera. Given the price, it could be a trigger swap away from being a pretty good aftermarket glock 19 if you're into the whole magwell thing.
@@GBGuns I think I'm going to have to walk this statement back because I just remembered the lonewolf frames exist. This is kind of a "Timberwolf we have at home" same features but worse texture for a bit less money. And if you're not into the gen 4 mag release or magwell then you can get an SCT-19 frame for $50 and that has an amazing trigger and texture. But this is assuming you want a glock 19 sized gun in the first place. We live in a world with the micro dagger and SCT 43 SC, which are glock 43X / 48 frames. You can keep the capacity, sight radius, and barrel length while also having the option for a shorter slide. And all that is in a lighter & thinner gun that has a gen 4 style mag release. Neat to have a more budget side grade on the market, that maybe has neat recoil with the triple nested spring. But its kind of a quality gamble that you don't need to take in the commodity priced and long running glock 19 aftermarket. Also I just realized those sights are like $13 on ebay.
Ive noticed the extractor is different than whats posted online for the ria models from what i can tell. Also noticed theres a cutout shape just for the chamber flag you arent using lol
I'll admit that I've never been a fan of Glock. I won't deny my bias. Can anyone deny that Glocks are overpriced anymore? I can't comment on this particular brand but the past decade has shown us that a well made reliable striker fired gun doesn't have to cost more than a few hundred dollars or so.
The gun can be had for 199-220 I've never seen one in person l can tell you RIA warranty department is by far the best I've ever dealt with by far they may not be the fastest but if the gun wasn't abused and you have a problem with it they will fix it or replace it I've had nothing but a good experience dealing with them with warranty work
@@GBGuns Canik, Stoeger, Sarsilmaz, Girsan are big brands. Derya , Aselkon, BAlistic Defence, KRal, Ermox , System Defence are new Brands. They are started to produce new pistols and some small guns. Their main production lines are shotguns

Glock Gen 5 mags will not fit if you use the magwell. I've been using the Pmags, Glock 17 mags, and a few others. I think the Glock Gen 4 mags might work.
