One of the glories of growing up watching British television in the 70s and 80s was that seldom did a month pass without the fantastic Deryck Guyler turning up on some show or other playing his washboard.
Here's an example from the 80s. A billion pounds and a sack of gold to anyone who can name the show.

This wonderful talented man was my Father-in-law. When playing the washboard, he was completely engrossed. It is lovely to see so many endearing comments about him. With regard to the washboard it has been given to his eldest grandson and as for playing at a pub in Thornton Heath, that was very close to where he lived in Norbury before joining our family here in Australia in 1993. I don't think he ever appeared on the Michael Parkinson show and sadly the 'This is Your Life' episode which went to air early 1974 was accidentally destroyed by the BBC and despite many efforts a video copy has never been obtained. Always a hope the show had been recorded by a fan. He always said he would like to live until the turn of the century but sadly he passed away on the 7th October 1999 so didn't quite make it.

I loved the way he used to say 'oh yes..' at the end of a statement, in almost a complacent way when talking about being a Desert Rat or whatever in Please Sir. He was excellent. What happened to his washboard, Zak?

He was a lovely down to earth old fashioned gentleman. He lived next door to good friends & popped in for coffee & a chat when I was there. Didn't know he was so adept at the washboard.

I'll always remember him as 'Potter' in 'Please Sir', Constable Korky with Eric Sykes & Hattie & Mr. Lennox-Brown in Men from the Ministry with Richard Murdoch.

Never seen it used like that! Just the New Orleans style. Sherrie Miranda’s historically based, coming of age, Adventure novel “Secrets & Lies in El Salvador” is about an American girl in war-torn El Salvador: tinyurl.com/klxbt4y Her husband made a video for her novel. He wrote the song too: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-P11Ch5chkAc.html
