@@bingo1232 Jobim's music is underrated because Muzak ruined the image of the music in a lot of people's minds, so everyone thinks of it as "elevator music" or "doctor's office music" in my case, because I first heard it in my optometrist's office waiting room.
Joe Henderson can play jazz in any mode....the man amazed me for all the years he lived and played. No two solos were ever the same. The man just created new music every time he played that horn.
After listening to jazz my whole adult life I think Joe Henderson has become my most favorite tenor player of all. Plus the tunes he wrote still sound so great, like fresh and new sounding, every time I hear them. RIP Joe. I am grateful for all the great music you left behind.
At the young age of 22, a friend and I were walking down 8th St in Manhattan one evening and started up a conversation with a very hip-lookin "cat" carrying an instrument case. We hot it off and he invited us to partake in his lower East Side apt. We did. And he pulled out his tenor sax and started to play for us. We were blown away. It was Joe Hnderson, as it turned out. Young ignoramuses that we were, we had never heard of him and had no idea that he was already a jazz star. Until, that is, we went to our favorite local bar that had a huge juke box full of eclectic music from dance to jazz, and scrolling thru the JB menu, there was his name...Joe Henderson!
I had never heard the intro to this song before. Joe Henderson really makes his sax sing. Thank you Mr. Tran for sharing this video with the rest of us!
It's such a beautiful, classic Jobim song. I first heard it played by Stan Getz (ts) (with Charlie Byrd on guit, Keter Betts on b, Buddy Deppenschmidt on dr), on his Jazz Samba album back in 1962. And then Getz played another version of it on his Getz/Gilberto album in 1963 with the guitar playing and beautiful voice of Joao Gilberto. Check them out. Check out the translation of the lyrics too.
Joe plays perfection, perfect rendering of the beautiful melody ...and then just enough spice and Hendersonisms in the improv to make the audience take notice they are in the presence of one of the best....Metheny tastefully comps and stays out of the way of Jobim and the bass player / rhythm section....
Goodness this is most perfect band with a most perfect song 🌸love and light to every one of them💚as long as we listen to them none of them will ever be gone 💜

Love is like a never-ending melody Always have compared it to a symphony A symphony conducted by the lighting of the moon But our song of love is slightly out of tune Once your kisses raised me to a fever pitch Now the orchestration doesn't seem so rich Seems to me you've changed the tune we used to sing Like the bossa nova, love should swing We used to harmonize, two souls in perfect time Now the lyrics and the melody don't even rhyme For you forgot the melody our hearts would always croon And so what good's a heart that's slightly out of tune Tune your heart to mine the way it used to be Join with me in harmony and sing a song of loving We've got to be together and before too long There'll be no desafinado When you give your heart to me completely Then you won't be slightly out of tune You'll sing along with me There'll be no desafinado When you give your heart to me completely You won't be slightly out of tune You'll sing along with me
Beautiful english version, but these lyrics do not actually translate the Portuguese, despite being poeric in their own right.
Great arrangement of this classic bossa nova song. For sure Astrud Gilberto is listening up there in heaven. Joe does such a fine job all the way through the song. Antonio is/was a genius too.
I've listened to ol Joe's tribute to Jobim along with such greats as Herbie Hancock and Elaine Elias. A very wonderful album indeed, I highly recommend it! And this meeting between the two is timeless!
I heard this song first on herb alpert's lonely bull album and it was the one I liked the most on the whole record back in 1966 . Very hipnotic melody!

ADORO!!!
The simply is the greater Jovin is my inspiration all my life . I look the I born in Brasil. Was wonderful. But am Peruvian lovers of and master. Of music. God Bless America .🇵🇪🇺🇸
Betty Clark In my humble (?) opinion, Joe should have been the go-to bossa guy from the beginning, not "Mr. Reed-Squeek" Getz. Consider Joe's "Blue Bossa" from '61, he was right there at the right time. Maybe it was a race- issue way back then? Mr. Henderson's always been a HUGE idol of mine!
+Ron Robbins Don't put Getz down with your insults; he was every inch the saxophone master that Henderson was... both were beyond great and I have dozens of their CDs but truth to tell I listen to more of that achingly beautiful tone of Getz than I do of Henderson.
You are certainly entitled to that opinion, and yes, Getz is widely loved and revered. But in my opinion, as a life-long (and so old) jazz player and fan, Getz was highly overrated and actually squeeked his reed on almost every recording, at least a few times. Joe, on the other hand, was way ahead in terms of phrasing, technique, and tone. Listen to his solo on "Recordame" from his first album Page One. What Getz solo would you suggest as an example? And man, take it easy, this is just music and we're all fans, nothing personal, okay?
+Ron Robbins sinatra would go over a key somewhat as did pavaratti. to play within the range is good but to take the chance to squeak the reed tells you it was getz and that it, to him, made his music. just music ! this is not just music, this is jobim.
Greetings, Richard! Yes, it's JOBIM, all the more reason not to allow a junkie like Getz to clam it up with reed-squeekin' sloppy technique (trust me, those "clams" he played weren't from "taking a chance!") Joe Henderson, in his '61 album with "Blue Bossa", "Recorda-me," etc., was already way out of Getz' league (in my not-so-humble opinion).
Toda sexta-feira eu no violão base, meu sobrinho no violão solo, e minha esposa no vocal, fazemos nosso encontro musical.
He aquí la diferencia como se interpreta la voz y los acordes modernos..una sinfónica de colores love 💞 Brasilia mmm usic all my life . This is it. Loving and touching..wonderful
