One thing that really bothers me is that when he announces he’s in love with mal instead of his girlfriend who he’s like engaged to, no one gets mad and everyone cheers(NOT TO MENTION the fact that mal is seen as a villain JUST AS BAD AS HER MOTHER by the people), but in the other movie, when he announces his love for ANOTHER girl (love potion again) instead of mal, his new girlfriend, everyone is shocked and disappointed for some reason???

I KNOW RIGHT?! Like literally no one noticed that something was different?! That "Oh Ben is acting kinda weird and talking about this villain girl that he hasn't even known for like- A week?" Why didn't his parents or the fairy godmother who (I'd assume would be on close involvement with the king and queen) didn't notice how Ben had been acting. Like- their only son and heir to the throne? Wouldn't the fairy godmother have been able to sense foul play at hand?

The descendants book is way different from the movie and is honestly much better and gets the villains right for the most part. The book does have Mal and Ben fall in love still, kinda, but it's through shared dreams they have where they interact and become friends. That's the entire reason why Ben wants the kids from the island to come to the mainland, so they can have a better life and decide for themselves if they want to be good or follow in their parents footsteps.

Even if I would have never thought to cast Kristin Chenoweth as Maleficent, she did slay in her own way. "Evil Like Me" is outrageously catchy and you can see she had fun with the role even if it doesn't really suit her on a technical level.

My biggest issue with the movie is that fact that the Core 4 just... don't wanna be villains. As someone who loves villains, them as unapologetic villains would have been so much cooler IMO.

I think the reason why 2010s Disney Channel seems more "childish" than 2000s Disney is that, at least before Disney+ became popular, while 13/14 year olds in 2004 would still be watching teen Disney, teens in the 2010s all moved to watching Netflix. So basically between 2012 and 2018 the main Disney Channel demographic was genuinely made of a younger audience compared to the past, which means the Disney products were targeted for that kind of audience (sure, they lost audience in general, from all ages, because even children started preferring RU-vid to cable TV, but their teen audience loss was much more drastic from what I've seen)

Rant moment: I find it weird how they would bring back, like the evil queen who was killed, Jaffar who got turned into a genie and THEN died as well, Maleficent who, well, also died, and then we have Creulella, who got thrown into a mental institution. I don’t understand movies like these sometimes, and the third Descendants movie was complete garbage too, literally felt like the story was all over the place and kinda lazy too.
