Part 2 of our 12 day wilderness canoe trip on the Wind and Peel Rivers in Yukon Territory, Canada.
In Part 2 of 2, we continue down the Wind River just downstream of Mount Royal. We head through wild, rugged landscapes and pass through sections with sweepers, sharp bends and some whitewater. We pass through two epic canyons at the Wind/Peel confluence and further down on the Peel. Our trip ends with a float plane pickup at Taco Bar and flight back through the Mackenzie Mountains.
Note: we are not professional guides but are sharing our experience on this route. For those new to canoeing or backcountry camping in the Yukon or northern areas, it is recommended to take a guided trip or to accompany experienced paddlers.
Shuttle and canoe rental: Up North Adventures (Whitehorse)
Float plane charter flight: Alkan Air (Mayo)

How amazingly peaceful and beautiful your canoe trip looked... I have tears of joy in watching in amazement at the stunning mountains and deep blue and greens of the water. Thank you so much for sharing your journey. (this comment covers part 1 as well as this post of part 2) PS The dried fruit you made looks wonderful and delicious!

What a cool landscape of rocky canyons through the plateau. It reminds me a little of the North Saskatchewan River but with rock walls instead of clay.

Awesome video and trip. I’m planning on doing this trip next year. Is there anything you would have done differently? What time of year did you go and what was the average temperatures? Thanks.

Hi there, we went at the very end of June into around the 2nd week of July. Overall not to many things we would have done differently except probably taking an extra rest day somewhere in the upstream 100km of the Wind to do some more hiking and a bit less time on the Peel. For weather the first couple days were cooler and more unpredictable weather. The last 5 or 6 days were very hot and it was challenging finding a spot to camp out of the sun. Some trip reports said they had snow in July in some years so I think it can be a complete mix and to just be prepared for anything. Hope this helps!

I ended up ordering the book tonight. Had to Google a source since Amazon did not have it and it wasn’t the easiest place to order from. Was wondering if you would use the Alum to clear the soil from the water. Seems like enough clean streams and springs are coming in that you just had to let it naturally settle and then filter.

Great video guys! Loved watching this while stuck in an office for work! Did have a question on your black bean burger meal. Im gearing up for my biggest canoe packing trip with 7 days and 100miles. Would love to make those burgers 🍔!!

Yes the black bean burgers were a favourite on this trip. We didn’t follow a specific recipe that I can remember but we made a huge batch in the winter and dehydrated the extra. It dehydrated really well and we usually add some extra spices and dried garlic afterwards. Also a bit of oil mixed in when you rehydrate helps with the flavour and keeping them together.

Obje.... those were not black beans. They mashed mosquitoes to make something to look like black bean ;) lol, joking

Nice video, you have a new subscriber. I have a question for you: I see that you have the latest version of the Hubba Hubba. What are your thoughts on that tent? Like: - did you had any problems with the poles? - was it 100% waterproof? - did water leaked through the floor? - did you own a previous version? If so, which one is the best?
@tailwindsnorth
@tailwindsnorth Год назад
Hi there. This is actually the MSR Elixir 3 tent. I think it may be similar to the Hubba tent. We have used it for about 3 years and have been very happy with it. We have used it though some pretty big storms and no leaks or tears yet. Our previous tent was a MEC tarn 3 tent, which we loved but the design had the fly at the end of the tent instead of on each side.
@DiabloOutdoors
@DiabloOutdoors Год назад
@@tailwindsnorth Wow! that was a fast reply lol :) Yes, the Elixir is similar to the Hubba and based on what you just told me (about 3 years), it seems MSR released the new canopy design first on the Elixir. Thanks for the info!

Hi, yes we flew out of Mayo in to Mclusky lake in late June. Part 1 of our trip shows how we got up there and the upper part of the Wind River. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M9TUg8g7OwI.htmlfeature=shared
