I was in the Fortress of Doom and stumbled across this music record. I started playing the song. I wasn’t sure if Descent into Cerberon was the name of its album, or if it was the song’s name, so I decided to use the SoundHound app on my phone to find out. However, when I had SoundHound listen to the music, it came up with the song, We Need A Goal by D.I.V. I was confused at first as it was a bad sexual song, but then I came here and then realized that my SoundHound app goofed up, 😂😂😂😂

Ha! I still got me Quake 2 CdRom with the entire soundtrack on as well. This was always my favorite track from Q2. And yes, I fucking bought that game in the 90's :D
Well I didn't exist in the 90s so yeah. Nothing I can do 'bout that. Sometimes I do kinda wish I was born somewhere in the past so I could actually experience the rise and evolution of videogames. Instead of just looking back at it.
Remember playing this in my old high school computer lab. 31 students and the instructor in full LAN playing CTF. This song in particular was perfect cause the intro played just long enough for each team to meet each other when the metal riffs started.
yeah a SWAT team comprised of ranger clones and doomguy clones each with a BFG 10K and 9000 respectively and the enemies are generic CoD and halo characters.
This is one of the most badass FPS tracks of all times. Thank you for goose bumps. I still owe the original Q2 CD, but hearing it on the Internet is awesome. In 1999, I was one of the best Q2 CTF players in my country; data lines were 56k modems or ISDN, ADSL lines were not yet deployed. Latency ranged from 300 (modem) to 100 (ISDN), and many 200+ ping guys where top notch. We often had fun doing lan parties along with all "enemy" clans - a thing new generations will probably never experience. I used a trackball and not a mouse, and people still wonders about that. Today, I can't play a FPS decently, and my daughter owns me on almost every game. Oh well, I guess this is the natural evolution of games... Q2 is dead, long live Q.
Great game and probably one of the best soundtracks ever in entire video gaming history! Why newer games (in general) don't have something like this as soundtrack anymore?!
Someone needs to upload this track on a loop for an hour or more. It would save the effort of having to click play again so I can hear those sweet ascending power chords at 0:57 once more.
No game can match this level of badassery. when you awake from your space pod on a foreign planet where everything wants to kill you...this song comes on, and you start laying waste to those strogg fucks.
What I like about Quake 2 is that here you play not as an alien pumped with steroids, whom nothing can kill, but as an ordinary marine, an ordinary human, who does not have any superpowers. This creates a special atmosphere. Imagine that you are the only survivor of the entire platoon, sneaking through the dark corridors of the Strogg base. Chaos is going on on the radio, shouts and shooting are heard. And now you stumble upon the torn corpse of your friend, and next to him a hefty cyborg with a machine gun instead of a hand.
Which Command and Conquer song does it remind you of? I'm familiar with Frank Klepacki's work (the composer for most of the Command and Conquer music) and it doesn't sound too much like this.
This made part of my history in games........Pentium 3, in sly-mode with 2 graphic cards, voodo with 192 bits per channel........I complet this games various times...! ah...with Windows 98 second edition.
1998 summer. My very first computer. 233 Mhz Pentium MMX with the legendary super crappy S3 Virge DX. The very first game I installed on it was Quake 2. Start the game. The resolution is 320x240. This soundtrack is playing. One of the most memorable moments of all my time spent in front of PC. Unforgettable soundtrack.
this track doesn't play anywhere cept for a few of it's expansion stages that had mob enemy's over 100+ total in a stage. it's *2nd* to Quad Machine's track but quite a banger. 😗
Quake 2 will work with Windows 10. It requires Knightmare's Unofficial v3.24 Patch. That patch fixes almost everything except for the mouse. You will have to type "bind mwheeldown weapprev" into the game's console and press ENTER if you want to use the mouse wheel to select the previous weapon.
It depends on what kind of graphics card you have installed. Quake 2 won't display properly with many graphics cards unless you install that patch. The patch also adds improvements like anisotropic filtering, vertical sync, dynamic lighting, and the ability to display at a resolution of 1920 x 1080. The game was created before people started using LCD widescreen monitors. You need the ability to enable vertical sync if you are using an LCD monitor. Otherwise, you will see screen tearing because the graphics card won't be synchronized with the monitor. Most LCD monitors can only display 60 frames per second. That patch doesn't add any new textures or other enhancements.
