Descent - Mikes Yule Calendar 15th of December -  

I remember this being the first 3D game I played after biting the bullet and switching from the Amiga to the PC. Since my parents didn’t have much money, when everyone got their fancy Pentium machines we could only afford a 486DX2/66 with 8 MB of RAM, but it was a Siemens Nixdorf and they knew what they were doing, so the graphics card was a Tseng ET4000 and it was PCI. This machine ran Descent 1 and 2 in the 320x200 resolution perfectly playable and it was a real treat to play with an analog joystick. I later upgraded it to its maximum, a 486DX4/100 with 32MB, and then it could even play Duke Nukem 3D, GTA 1 and even Quake 1 at bearable speeds. The fancy Pentiums of my cousin and classmates were often not much faster.

Thank you for this Video... and the work I have now.... 😛 Thanks to your Video I was inspired to play Descent for my own on one of my Retro-PCs... My VLB 486 DOS Machine is to slow, so I have to step to my next Retro Machine. A K6 PC with Win98... I am still working to bring this Game alive and play it on the Memory Lane 😀 I remember playing the Shareware Version back the time...❤Greetings! EyeKeyFun

Ohhh I have spent many many hours with Descent, Descent2 and Descent3. Today I stil enjoy the old games occasionaly but I also have great fun with Overload which is a project that came out for a couple of years ago done by some of the old fans of Descent. Unfoortunately lack of funding has stopped the development of Overload, but it is REALLY the new Descent with very high resolution graphics.

I tried this back when it came out. Frustrated the heck out of me, couldn't control it worth a darn. Gave up after about an hour (if that long). Went back to Doom.
