This video lesson is going to look at a common IELTS speaking topic: books. You may be asked to describe a book in any part of the IELTS speaking test but part 2 is where you will be expected to talk at length, so we will focus on that today.

Hello Mr David, I have a question on a recent cue card question which asks us to describe something important that has been kept in my family for a long time , " What it is / when your family had it / how your family got it / and explain why it is important to your family . I wonder whether or not talking about an ancient language spoken by us/my family is correct for this topic . It came to mind that an ancient language is sth very important for people to preserve and pass down to the coming generations . What do you think ?
@TEDIELTS
@TEDIELTS 3 года назад
It would depend on the exact wording of the question and also how you introduced it. If you carefully explained, "In my opinion, something that stays in a family for years is not necessarily an object, but could be a tradition or language..." However, it is doubtful that the examiner would really agree that a language is the correct interpretation of the question and I think they'd be looking for you to describe an object.

@@TEDIELTS Thanks for clarifying the question. Then it would be better for me to talk about an old Bible that has been kept with our family for about a century written in an ancient language .. What do you think ?
