+Marco Minnemann Maybe Dream Theater wasn't really meant for you at all. After all these years asking "Why?! Why not Marco Minnemann?!" And here it is, the answer to my questions became The Aristocrats... I can't find proper words to explain, this song it just.. It deserves a pedestal. I know it's MEAN but I can't help to wish that Jordan Rudess would also leave Dream Theater and goes with the three of you. I don't know why I'm saying such thing, maybe it's because I noticed something become a little too different when I watch live footages of Dream Theater after Mike Portnoy left. It's not about the atmosphere but it's the music itself changed.. Mike Mangini is one of the greatest but still Mike isn't Mike.. Everyone is unique. Well' he's with Paul Gilbert now and he seems doing great so it's fine with me and as long as their cool, I'll be a pool. Maybe he's end game isn't playing fast songs. Thank you. Actually, I picked up my first set of drum sticks when I turned 13 in January of 2012.. I played with some incredibly talented, young musicians at the School of Rock the first couple of years and had a fantastic teacher there, Aaron Lee Carroll. Aaron gets a lot of credit for laying the foundation for where I am today. At the present moment, I am self-teaching myself. Again, I appreciate your comments. :)

The Aristocrats were formed shortly after Marco Miinemann didn't get the job as Portnoy's replacement. Many of us are glad that he didn't. The Aristocrats are a great band. ^_^

oh damn he was one of the auditioners. Im going to see dream theater in 8 days XD and they said there doing old songs in the set im super excited. I just got one of the aristocrats albums also :P. There like rush yes and dream theater mixed its awesome.

Hi. Good to see you again. When I was much younger, i remember being a little affected by other people's teasings. But later I discovered that teasings are like pushing a button to get a certain response. As long as you respond, the teaser will push your buttons. So I learned not to respond, and the buttons stopped being pushed. Know what I mean? :)

Devikah yep! that is so, true and I have learned how much patients I have with those typical type people.. It's a good training lesson on our patients and to control our emotions is how I become a hardcore intricate glass artist ..

There's no other way to be than hardcore with our passions, eh? :)

Devikah 0ur passion will always lead us to where we wannabe in life is why we have to pursue whatever it is our heart desires and it really helps when your giftedly talented too and you have that Devikah it's like, a key to any doors for success while living life ..

Thank you for your comment, Dan; I appreciate it. Your observation has a lot of merit (more than in a grain of salt) and makes sense. Many experienced jazz drummers would also agree with you. My introduction to drumming was strictly rock and roll based; but, as I venture out to other genres, I will keep your suggestion in mind. Thank you for offering it. :) P.S. My dad is a self-confessed dinosaur too, and you both give "old guys" a good name. :)

+Devikah Much thanks for that link. The live clip of Desert Tornado is excellent. Great musicianship. Glad to see sophisticated challenging music with more of a jazz than metal bent hasn't died. I had heard Marco's name but hadn't really heard him before the Dream Theater auditions. I had heard of the Aristocrats through following Jess Lewis, an amazing young British guitarist, who lists Guthrie Govan as an influence. I need to explore more of their music. If you like this style of music check out Chick Corea's Return to Forever, The Mahavishnu Orchestra with Billy Cobham , and Tony Williams Lifetime. All from the 70's when jazz fusion was born pretty much after Mile Davis' Bitches Brew album.

+Devikah Be thankful you live in the RU-vid/internet era. There is a wealth of ways to get exposed to good music if you know where to look. And of course easy ways to share info with other drummers that doesn't involve physical proximate. :-)

Thank you for your comments, Sayan. In particular, the last line. :) I am familiar with what went down at The Audition because I must've watched every RU-vid video about it a hundred times. Including Marco's comments. Let me clue you in as to why I said "equally talented musicians". I am just starting my career as a freelance, session drummer, and my goal is to become an accomplished and respected one. Since you pretty much reap what you sow in life, I want to respect every musician that I may possibly sub drum with in the future. And the best musicians will always be the ones that I am playing with. Know what I mean? :)
