In this episode, we take a look at the history of Kiith Soban and the Khaaneph. Soban Dossier: www.desertsofkharak.com/docume... Khaaneph Site: www.desertsofkharak.com/docume...
Coalition: Scientific Agnostics Galsieen: Religious Fundamentalists Soban: Spiritual Warriors Khaaneph: Militant Atheists The lore of each of these factions is incredibly interesting, the roots of the Homeworld verse in general, and you sir read it and presented it like a proper story, I like that you used game footage to create a sort of machinima feel to it as well.
The Khanneph are more militant nihilists than atheist since it's dubious if they care about anything like affirming or denying the supernatural, at least on a group level
With Homeworld 3 in the works, I hope they expand the lore and universe. Its so untapped that we only seem to scratch the surface from the games. I wouldn't mind they release tie-in books just to expand the world.
@@Razgriz_01 I would love to read books in the Homeworld setting. It’s so rich and there are so many periods to set them in, I may even try my hand at writing one myself.
My favorite bit about the Soban is that if their contract ends during a battle, they will stop fighting and leave, forcing their employers to renegotiate a new contract for them to resume fighting.
"A withering hail of missile fire rained down on the Soban fleet," pretty much sums up the multiplayer for the first few weeks after the Khaaneph DLC launched.
odst1658 So legit. I had a lot of fun with Empty recreating that battle. I had way more footage than I could have fit into that short part of the video.
One thing I love about the Khaaneph is that it completely explains why the Coalition, obviously the underdog at the beginning of DoK, is able to launch a fleet into the desert and actually make it through. Obviously if the Gaalsien had targeted them with all of their forces during mission one none of us could have beaten them. Now we see why they didn't.
The Gaalsein are also not significantly stronger than the coalition they are just much more accustomed to the desert, the coalition fears them not for their nubers but for their fortitude and cunning. Utalizing tactics that are hard to counter by conventional military force while still packing a hard punch with the technology they reverse engineer from the wreckages of millenia old arc ships.
That is one good reason while the other is because they don't really have enough manpower and resources to bring out a long term siege. The Gaals would have to spend a hefty amount of resources to get a main assualt force to pass through the desert and fight against enemies with home field advantage.
Deserts have a special charm in everything they house. Homeworld always showed it at its best. Wherever our jorney leads us, we never forget that Kharak is a desert planet. To bring the athmosphere of a desert in space is a big deal, very few RTSs have such a thick athmosphere.
i've been subscribed to your channel for now half a year and remained mostly if not entirely silent up to this date. But this video was truly something special or should I say a wonderful experience to both watch and listen as you told us the story and tales of the sobanese and khaaneph people while the perfectly mixed in ost was playing in the background. I would like to thank you for making such good content because you put so much time and dedication into these videos and it shows. keep it up! Greetings from France
Tzryylon5 The Citadel dwellers were fanatical followers of Joe. One might argue it was yet another religion. The Khaaneph are more like maddened atheistic desert technobarbarians than anything else. All they do is raid, kill, loot, repeat. So uh... Warboys without Joe. Yeah you're probably right... Also +1 for even bring up Mad Max! The first time I played DoK, I got absolutely crazy Mad Max vibes from watching LAVs zipping around dunes and blowing stuff up. Dat beefy engine sound made it even better.
A truly movie like experience. The build up in the begging was just as great as the battles that followed. I hope you will do more, shorter ones that come more frequently. Thank you again.
I can imagine Gearbox aiming to do something like that with Homeworld now, they seem to be wanting to branch out the IP with things like the RPG Tabletop game
I really, really, really want a space dogfighting game set in the Homeworld universe. It could be a recreation of the Homeworld campaign from the perspective of a fighter pilot, or an entirely new story in the era after Hiigara is retaken. There's so much potential there, it's unreal.
Wow that was amazing. I really enjoyed the cinematography and the narration was stellar as usual. Your lore videos are by far my favourite on your channel. 👍🏼Thank you for taking the time to make these truly epic videos.
Its good to see that Blackbird Interactive have taken Homeworld back to its narrative roots, which was sorely needed after publisher meddling wrecked it with Homeworld 2. I now have a very good feeling about Homeworld 3 :-)
@@Dreamlands15 Please do! you're the only one that goes into great detail when it comes to homeworld lore, and i'd love to see how you show the other stuff :D
ITS HERE ITS HERE!!! ITS BEEN SO LONG! lol. awesome bud, i didn't know there was another faction in the game, i knew of the ones you play and the others with the more sci look to them, but these guys at the end of the video they are awesome, if you do more please do one about them at some point i think that would be awesome.
Hey man, I loved this lore series. You did an excellent job! I was captivated by Homeworld when I first played it about 8 or 9 years ago. I would love to see more of this series, but I know returning to old projects is difficult. Maybe to celebrate Homeworld 3 if the crowd fund is successful? (Wink wink) lol
I'm pretty sure like the last PDFs they released this is a teaser for something to come. Sounds like some more Single player content tbh they have been pretty hush hush about things. I know, I know correlation is NOT causation, it might be me reading too much into what is being put forth. But hey I know I wasn't the only one to think this.
ToastedWaffles Ive been thinking that forever too. Wishful thinking perhaps. On that topic, the segment in the middle of the video, at Firebase Kriil, is actually a recreation of the battle from the Soban pdf :)
Sorry to say, but I don't really care about the lore anymore; in all 4 Homeworld games, I've always find those Sobanii to be my favourite Kiith clan... kinda like Kushan's elite special forces. In HW-1, Taiidan has an Elite Force with black camo in 'Hyperspace Inhibitor' mission. In HW-2, all Sobanii also has black camo, heavily implying that all Sobanii 'are' elite forces too, IMHO. In DoK, nearly all Sobanii large vehicle (ships) are all equipped with dreaded and powerful railguns, completely out-classed both Coalition and Gallsien alike.
man how the developers made a game with such an amazing history is crazy but now its time they build more campains for the game tell me what you think of that
due to the Khaaneph being even further south than the Gaalsein it's safe to assume most of them where anavare of the happenings in space. Not that they are missed by other kiths as they are basicly cannibalistic barbarians who are crueler than the Gaalsein.
I didn't mean you should re-record this video haha. I just thought if you edit out the stutters in future videos it might improve the quality even further.
It does not matter as to what the believes or conceives or feels or thinks: however it does matter as to logic reason evidence proof fact and reality; not only the reality of the situation but also reality it's self. Atheism science civilization socialism true forms of course FTW!;)
And remember that there is no better and that there is no worse for we are all equal though we are not the same: and that while ideas may be equal in that they are all ideas, ideas are not equal or equivalent or comparable or the same as ideas.
And that there is no spirit, and that there is no soul; however there is the physical, and there is the body, and there is the mental, and there is the mind; and the proper functioning and operation of...
Oh yes and do (mentally) and do try (physically) to have hope (for and as part of the proper functioning of everything) and conviction based upon logic reason evidence proof fact and reality; not only the reality of the situation but also reality it's self.
And obviously remember that things/ideas like logic reason learning and science, are not ideological or ideology; and they do not rely on anyone's perception or brainwashing/damage as the case may be: however they are most certainly methodological procedural methodology and perceptual aides (science being described as humanity's attempt to understand reality on reality's terms;) etc. oh yes and do and do try to be what I would call selfful meaning yes absolutely do think of yourself while at the same time also thinking about others if only because everyone is a person for again we are all equal though we are not the same; and if only for the sack of mutual cooperation and mutual respect and stability etc. yes...;)
And obviously that there is no god(s) or devil(s) or whatever or what have the for there is no evidence or proof for any horrible bullshit or whatever ridiculous claim(s) or what have the and if only because there could not be for we are all equal though we are not the same amongst meny other reasons no exemption(s) or exception(s) period.
Sigh....I don't "Hate" Dok It just that I wish there was more. There is always more lore to be told but one must resist the temptation to for I might destroy the series.... ...... Sigh
