Farringdon station has been designed with inspiration from the goldsmiths, watchmakers, ironmongers and blacksmiths of the area and the brutalist architecture of the Barbican. The new station sits beneath Smithfield Market and provides connections with Thameslink and London Underground services through an integrated ticket hall on Cowcross Street. The eastern end of the station features two incline lifts to carry passengers from platform to street level, only one of two stations to use them on the Elizabeth line.
