Very nice introduction. I like the rythm and it is clear. I am just wondering why nothing is mentioned about the opportunities linked to the machining operations on "green parts"?

PM does not have a consistent level of porosity across a wall thickness. The core has more porosity that the skin, that has little porosity, if any at all. An unmachined wall will seal better, than one of the same thickness that is machined. Machining PM removes the skin of low porosity and exposes the more porous core to leakage in thin walled parts. To counter this, small amount of Copper in the base material allows the tooling to smear the soft copper over and close off the porosity. Secondary infiltration treatments may also be required if the wall thickness is thin. Consider a leak test requirement after machining. Parts that require sharp ID or OD 45 degree chamfers may not put in the die design. The sharp knife edge in the die ID or OD will break quickly. A shallower 30 degree chamfer with a narrow flat can be added to the green sintered part easily. This shape is stronger on the die ID or OD edge. A 45 degree chamfer will have to be machined, if it is really required.

is it only the test science that this much ton of compression is required to compress the powder as the composition of powder may be ternary or has bulk deformities in it . Also how much compression is too much compression
