Your videos are educative. Please I request for the design of the following structural elements in the cases of compression reinforcement and tensile reinforcement using BS 8110 1) 3 Going staircases and circular staircases 2 Circular column and rectangular columns 3) Cantilever beams and slabs 4) Combined Footings 5) Design of the roof And also how in the cases of earthquake zones, seismic loads and wind loads using British Standard, BS 8110 ( Including the checks)

Hello what if the ly and lx are both 6m and the slab has 9 panels like this do we still use one short end discontinuous for p2?
@MrElgamal77
@MrElgamal77 2 месяца назад
You can do that or you can use one long edge discontinuous. Both will give almost same thing because Ly/Lx = 1.

Big thumb up! Just a quick question, can you use the yield line method for using moment etc?

Dr are the long span calculated as 6m or 7.2m? Wouldn’t that Bsy now? Thanks very much Dr. El-Gamal.

Hi, I would like to ask that how to calculate the maximum load of the fully clamped two-way RC slab under point load acting on the slab center? I search many design codes and feel quite confusing. Looking for your kind answer.
@martinmtotera282
@martinmtotera282 10 месяцев назад
The simpler way is to convert it to equivalent UDL and add it to the design load

Sir what value will you choose for bending moment coefficient for continuous slab if Ly/ Lx is 1.87
@MrElgamal77
@MrElgamal77 2 года назад
From table 3.24 in the BS8110. It differs based on the four edge conditions of the slab.
@raythern6720
@raythern6720 4 года назад
Hi, I would like to ask about the effective depth. You calculated the minimum effective depth to be 178mm but after you calculated the total slab depth you reduced the effective depth of the slab to 175mm. Is this correct? because the minimum should have been 178mm and you went for a lower depth
@ahmedalaamri5060
@ahmedalaamri5060 3 года назад
It should have been gone the other way around. h to be taken as 205 mm and effective depth to be taken as 180 mm. The tutor here took literally the solution of the book, maybe he does want to confuse the students when they will refer to the book. All the best

I prefer BS8110 method for designing 2 way slabs, my question is how would you check if the steel area provided is not above the maximum amount.
@MrElgamal77
@MrElgamal77 2 года назад
Compare it against the maximum 4%. In slabs, you will never go to the maximum. In beams and columns, you may have that.

Thanks for this video,a very clear step by step explanation . I have a question : if the middle panels are 2.5 m width instead of 6.00 m giving one way slab 2.5*7.20 m panels, the case which we find in practice where there is corridor in the building . How can we design the floor slab.
@MrElgamal77
@MrElgamal77 4 года назад
Thank you for you interest. If you have continuous one way slabs with different span lengths where you can not use the coefficients, you have to make the structural analysis using moment distribution method or any simple computer program such as "CBA continuous beam analysis". You can download it from the internet.

@@MrElgamal77 What i mean if we have one way slab adjacent to two (two way slab) from both side .
@MrElgamal77
@MrElgamal77 4 года назад
@@mohamedsharawi2020 Ok. Now I got it. In this case, the negative moment and corresponding top reinforcement can be calculated from the two way slabs. For to bottom steel in the one way slab, you can be conservative and assume it as simply supported and the moment in this case can be wl2/8. Or you can assume the one way slab is fixed from the edges and get the positive moment based on that. I prefere to be conservative and use the first option especially the span is very small and you may need reinforcement less than the minimum.
@mohamedsharawi2020
@mohamedsharawi2020 4 года назад
@@MrElgamal77 But this will not comply with the conditions in clause 3.53.5 (b) which states when using Table 3.14 to calculate moments span of adjacent panels should be approx the same.
@mohamedsharawi2020
@mohamedsharawi2020 4 года назад
My question is : if we have a floor slab with unequal spans say in the Y direction can we use Table 3.14 to calculate moments .
