Loved this video! I hadn't thought of doing something like this with the emboss function! A really cool thing that I have recently learned is to highlight your SVG after importing it and then right click and "unlock". This allows far more editing functionality of the SVG. Without it, I found it really cumbersome to try to work with an imported SVG. Thanks again for the video!

Inkscape Maze Thicken Instructions: 1. Open Maze SVG file. 2. Select all wall lines. (Use mouse box select or shortcut Ctrl-A) 3. Object > Fill and Stroke (Or shortcut Shift+Ctrl+F) 4. Go to Stroke style tab and change Width (to e.g. 3 mm). 5. Path > Combine (Or shortcut Ctrl+K) 6. Path > Stroke to Path (Or shortcut Ctrl+Alt+C) 7. Save as updated maze SVG file.

Another option you could have used for creating the thicker walls of the maze is this: Import in your maze as an SVG, scale, and position as you did, but with the original line weights being thin Use the surface extrude command and extrude the lines from the maze SVG some non-important amount Use the thicken command to achieve the wall thickness that you desire Create another sketch and project the flat surfaces congruent to the original maze SVG, And finally, use this second sketch as the source of the emboss command I really enjoyed this tutorial, and it really showcased the emboss command well. I had been thinking about how to do this when I saw your video first detailing the emboss feature. I guess great minds think alike!

I got my 3D printer up and running two days ago, my first print was just a simple name plate, my next print was one of their example objects, I worked my way through this slowly and with some frustration (frustrationat Inkscape and fusion 360 that is) but was able to get a finished, sliced file out the other-side. This has been my third print and my first overnight print. Thank you so much, I love the result, and I feel a sense of accomplishment in my 3D printing skills! Obviously there is so much more to learn but I look forward to continuing to do so with your help!

One week ago i need to print something like this on my 3d printer. So, for this i need a model (Thingiverse wasn't as a solution). So i modeled ALL of the lines as a Revolve feature (on radial places) or Extrude feature (as vertical places). I lost so much time for this... Around 50 sketches... :) But now i know the easiest way to make it, thank you!

Thanks so much for this video. I want to make texture rollers for using with polymer clay. This totally showed me how to do it. My question is how to know the size of the SVG in import so it meets up on the cylinder. You mentioned that you knew what that number was but how did you figure out that number. I've been playing with this but am not able to get a true circular design.

First off... Thank You for this tutorial!! It was Awesome and I learned a ton! I didn't even know about the emboss feature. I have an issue though. I have been able to fix it with some hacks and supper glue on existing prints but... In my puzzle prints following this tutorial a person can 'cheat' by simply getting to the bottom of the maze and tilting the maze out of the cap! I have toyed with the tolerances and the extrusion offset of the cap peg but have not been able to solve this issue short of changing the maze and filling in extra profiles on the bottom (or filling the bottom puzzle with super glue after print... except for the exit). Is there a simpler way to solve this I'm not seeing? Forgive me if there's an update or something I'm not seeing. I see you have an 'anti-cheat' stl on the page... Is there a update video? One thing I haven't tried that I figure may work is to simply choose the maze length-width ratio to end up being less than my over all length of the cylinder yet wide enough that the circumference can still stretch to match. Then use the line tool to maybe extend the exit of the puzzle through to the bottom?
@ProductDesignOnline
@ProductDesignOnline Год назад
Hi Jason. I don't have an updated video per the anti-cheat version. But it is relatively simply, you'll just want to Extrude the tube beyond the maze (I think mine was about a half inch).

great tutorial when using inkscape the process is a bit different though, I create a PNG fro the maze and use trace bitmap functionality, works fine as well I have been using the sheet metal functionality to create these up to now, with emboss , the champpfering is a bt more tedious since you can do an angle extrude with the sheet tool, results more or less the same My son loves these boxes, I make one every week for him, then having the extrude is better for the process as I just need to swap out the maze.

[SOLVED - See end] Brilliant Kevin. Always enjoy your tutorials - but this one has me stumped at a simple selection! At 11:53, the face to be extruded for the Cap is selected - it's the face that connects the 0.5mm gap circle just created to the outer edge of the polygon - I can't figure how to select that plane - what I get is the face that runs all the way from the outer polygon to the outer maze, ignoring the circle. This is no good obviously as the puzzle will not function with a vertical slot running the full length of the cylinder. How do I select the face that needs to be extruded? Could somebody point me in the right direction please? Thank you. Got the answer from the Autodesk Forum - a bit obscure, but the problem was the 'project' immediately preceeding this step. I wasn't aware that this has two options since I just assumed the default. In my copy of Fusion 360, this was defaulting to 'entities', but it needs to have 'bodies' selected for this to work. Every day a learning day, and so I thought I would leave this comment in case others make the same mis-step.
@DamienBoath
@DamienBoath 4 года назад
Excellent video. I wish Fusion 360 would let you scale one plane (say x) and type in a distance. Rather than scaling up 1+ etc E.g I needed to scale a body to 60mm wide. Wish i could just type that in and it scales it accordingly, rather than guessing 1.23 etc

Yep!

@@ProductDesignOnline Ok, i am not pro in 3d printing, but have printed 2 years without issues. I belive when using 0.4 nozzle is best to have thinner then 0.8 walls, i am printing with 0.5 nozzle the last year with 0.8 walls to have a little overlap, but i print parts that need to be solid and glued together. This is just a question, just want to know what others are using :) Great film BTW, i have just drawn your maze box with a little twist in fusion. Thanks for your sharing.

Can someone post how to use inkscape with a generated svg. When i save the update svg and import the lines are still 1pt thick...

I had to go into fill and stroke properties [shift+ctrl+f] and set the fill and stroke to flat colour. That worked for me.

@@TrevorOConnell that didn't work for me. any chance you can record a screencast of what you did

@@TrevorOConnell Can't make this work in Inkscape, but I admittedly know very little about this thing. If I import Kevin's file, it looks right, but if I import mine with a 6 pt width and try to set the fill and stroke to a flat color, I get the same behavior. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I'm obviously doing something wrong.

@@HardLuckCafe I managed to get it to work once but i dont know what i did. I used the steps explained in a comment below from @Keon Verbeeck and tried to replicate them in InkScape. I think it has something to do with stroke to path and union. But i am not 100% sure

I would suggest Restoring your default preferences. Profile > Preferences > Restore Defaults.

For some reason, Fusion wouldn't let me select the part you selected at 13:34. :(

Do you have the "Auto Project Edges on Reference" turned on in your preferences?

@@isaac-h Make sure you're looking directly at the sketch. Auto project will not work if you're not. You can share your Fusion 360 model in my community space - bit.ly/PDOcommunity

Up until two weeks ago, fusion had a different license. Now it's shit.
