I have a 10 by 12 space in my basement which became my home gym during pandemic up to now. Kbs, clubs and maces, bulgarian bag, sandbags, fatbells and an airbike. Changed my life mentally and physically. Working out in a quiet designated space really makes a difference.
As someone working in stonemasonry I can totally relate, I've had my share of injuries over the years and yet one can't always take time off to recover, gotta pay the bills and put food on the table.
@5:36 "...controlling your environment helps you be consistent, and being consistent changes the way your brain works. It changes the way your cells work."- Thank you Mark.
I was talking with my coworkers a couple weeks ago about the exact energy you spoke of here! I was definitely energetically guided to find your Training for Overweight - Deconditioned - Individuals...This is is Day 1 of the rest of my life. Thank you so much! 💚
Again and again and again you deliver your knowledge with empathy and complete humility. You consistently share with such a dedication to the exact details to help guide people to a better lifestyle. You walk alongside and within the footsteps of everyday people with your words and actions-mentoring, coaching and inspiring the motivation to move better through life. You’re a rare breed Mark Wildman. Thank you!
This is exactly what happened to me. I was in great shape, got ACL tear in my right knee from Muay thai, recovered. But I didn't correct my form, I put a lot of load on my left side causing left back injuries. I need to get on your program after my PT. Thank you Mark Wildman!!!
After watching your videos for a while, I’m finally strong enough to handle a 25lb club. I feel much better for it. Hopefully I’ll be doing 35lb before too long.
Yep. The main reason I have managed to be consistent with the kettlebell program is that I could keep my full workout gear (kettlebell, yoga block, yoga mat, and yoga strap for flexibility) under my desk at work and get a full workout on my lunch break in any quiet corner. Now finishing week 32 and should be hitting a new rep max next week.
Happens a lot to combat veterans as well. Shitload of calories, tons of movement, tons of adrenaline......then you retire, and if your diet is unchanged you move from well maintained and fed vehicle.....to turning into a ford truck (big, clunky, can barely move, needs frequent maintenance). Gotta change the diet with your lifestyle.
Great topic, thanks. Have been recovering from a work injury for almost a year now, and home/yard environment helps. Would add that every time I spruce up the place, it adds to both my physical and mental performance (I'm a doctoral candidate, so the environment includes reading/writing/thinking spaces--both indoors and outdoors). Environment changes can better body and mind.
I lose weight when I don't train, because I eat a lot less when I'm not hungry. The solution is the same, though, train well and eat well. I do like to train with others when I'm healthy and don't like to do that when I'm hurt. Might be a primal trait of living beings. I do enjoy working out at home.
Your right on point, injured back sometime before 2013 area at a rock quarry. Went on to drive a truck, well pain was so bad in piriformis an glute area as rediculopathy was in full swing. Did clamshells, and the stretch from your channel now at point the muscle is better took years to fix reset to moderate level now, also do the thing on knees and hands roll back. And that now includes other things from the glute guy to build strength.
Yes, to everything that you said. I have started your IOT training, I have one week under my bat... (Brooklyn Basher). So happy I found your training, I'm 59 and my goal is to be in better shape in my 60's as well as a role model to my 18 yr old daughter (yes, I'm a later bloomer). Thank you and I will keep you posted, I've created a spreadsheet to track... btw, were you hustling back to catch that ferry?
I mostly haven't trained in a gym setting since before the lockdowns. At the time, I just wanted a change from the setting and to workout outside, which worked out well since I had a nearby calisthenics park to setup my rings and still use the hardstyle kettlebells. I would not be opposed to returning to the gym but I have not returned since I want a gym with space. Unfortunately, my favorite gym is a day's drive away from me and I have not come across one where I live now that did not shove a ridiculous amount of treadmills, ellipticals, and other machines into the entire workout space. I am of the opinion that there are psychological benefits to working out every now and then in a gym setting, but there are also psychological benefits to working out solo doing movements that you need space and would not feel comfortable doing around others for whatever reason. For me, I have to be alone swinging my clubs or kettlebells knowing if I screw up, I'd only ever hurt myself. I also do things like spinal waves, quadruped rocking, etc. and I don't want people observing and recording me to mock me on the social media platforms. And honestly there is one other reason why I am reluctant to return to a gym setting. I know some women dress in practically nothing and are looking to make you seem like some kind of creep if you happen to look their way, even if you are not looking their way to stare at her. Actually the last time I was at a small gym, I saw some woman doing these weird and painful looking kettlebell swings. A part of me wanted to try to help her to save her back, but I did not want to be accused of mansplaining or whatever bogus term there is for males talking to females so I said nothing and left betting that eventually she'll figure it out.
Hey Mark I found out loads since my back injury. I’m convinced it will do me better in the long term. Lower back - I was so tight from training no stretching (got away with this for two years!) now I’m better stretching daily sometimes twice daily. Big takeaway was stretching and in particular adductors (strengthening too)
What a coincidence, today was the first day i took my kettlebell traveling! Not a perfect workout (usually I'd use a few different weights) but obviously waaaaaay better than no workout at all
Just finished first iteration of the 4 week decon program, starting 2nd iteration next week. Had an issue with a knee that was stopping me from doing a lot. Definitely getting better, I started with a very light weight just to play it safe, didn't want to risk reinjury. Standing is easier, walking is getting better, can't run yet but I wasn't expecting to. Shoulders and back feel a lot stronger. Also working on eating cleaner and that is probably helping as well. Only real issue was the cool down and some of the warm up exercises require getting down on the ground and at the start that was very difficult. Not sure if you recommend an alternative to sphinx or baby poses. I actually use my club to help stand up from the floor.
I just wonder why I need to train with weights and only after that with body weight? Because I thought that I have a problem with my head😀I lost some weight and muscle because of illness and have some issues with muscle imbalances plus now I have troubles to push myself to workout with body weight it’s seems lighter but for me it’s better to do something with a kettlebell or a sledgehammer for mind and body and I don’t know why
At a facility where I am a member, I have witnessed the harshness that fit members display towards unfit members. "You shouldn't be here" types of looks. It is particularly evident among females. And it works - unfit members, i.e., the ones who may need it the most, do not last long and are soon a just a memory.
I just continue doing what I’ve been doing. Trainer writes out the training I have just done, and I do that on the next two days before seeing him again. Was fascinated to see the landscape behind you, also wondering whether you were wearing a weighted vest…….
So the video was about fighting thru injury and creating worse injury ...and the OP here talks about just developing a thicker skin 😅 Hey when you burn yourself on the stove, just turn the fire up and burn yourself some more right?
