He spelled it out... I don't like his tone but understand what he is saying. I would not want him talking about my Mom though... I think she is incredible... known to have good taste all her own too.
There was, and to a degree, still is this code of silence, this gallantry-- one mustn't tell the truth about Judy's unprofessional ways. It's too silly for words. But Mackie is telling the truth. Why not?
Odd his views has changed completley from his book in the 1980s where he states she was ALWAYS wonderful and he NEVER saw the side of her that had been written about so often in a negative way. Also, not all of those clothes were "trashed", I own five he and Ray did for Judy and you can see them at judy garland costumes
If you look at the trajectory of Garland's life after the TV show was cancelled it's straight down hill - she never recovered - it was like she had run out of ideas for her career & for herself after that Would it have killed CBS to give her a couple of seasons & make some money? just out of respect for everything she had achieved & what an amazing talent she was? after all the show is pretty watchable even now - Judy could deliver no-one cared less they just wanted her to give and give
charleswtriplett - Mackie's book was published in 1979. Also, he didn't say all of Judy's clothes were all trashed ... rather, he acknowledged that "some collectors have them" @ 5:45.
To start out with , "She was a Mess!" is disrespectful I thought and took some really cheap shots at her !! I don't give a Shit what He is saying now, without her here to defend herself but I can tell you This : Her Show was the Best Damn Television Show I have EVER seen, Her voice was Still Amazing and she always tore the house down and sang better than ANY Guest that came on, always giving Them the spotlight...Mackie was great at what he did but here, shows ZERO Class..Shame on You!! xo
