(2 Apr 2017) Designers Nickie Nina and Annus Abrar stole the show at the finale of the three-day Bridal Couture Week 2017 that ended in Karachi on Sunday, April 2.
Nickie Nina is the design combination of Aliya Niazi, 'Nickie', and Nabila Junaid, 'Nina', and an established name in the Pakistan fashion industry.
The bridal collection they showcased was a continuation of their 'Nouvelle Marie' collection. It drew inspiration from ornate architecture of European palaces, and featured brocades coupled with intricate multi-dimensional embroidery.
"The color palette was actually very interesting. Keeping the summer in mind, we did nudes with silver gold and a bit of color to have, actually, you know, a bit of spring-y look to that as well. The embroideries were typical Nickie Nina. It was a mix of different fabrics, different textures and different embroideries in every garment," Aliya Niazi, or Nickie, said.
Emerging designer Annus Abrar also featured on the runway on the final day. His collection evoked a "story of time travel in a royal carriage."
"The collection is called 'Shehnai,' that we showcased at the Bridal Couture Week 2017 today. Its inspiration was from bygone times and eras. The color palette has – as you saw – a lot of maroons. There was a lot of bling. The embroidery technique and the thought process behind it is inspired by old school ideas," Abrar said.
Established designer Sonya Battla's collection ended the three-day event with a grand finale.
Other designers to feature on the runway included Sana Abbas, Emraan Rajput and Ahsan's Menswear
"Nickie Nina paid tribute to Junaid Jamshed. She had a soundtrack with Nazia Hassan. So that was very nice. And she was trying to reinvent the traditional with the classic, and she had lots of different types of muted tones, which she juxtaposed with bright color," said fashion journalist Zurrain Imam.
Nickie Nina also emerged as a favorite among those attending the event.
"Nickie Nina – I loved all of their collection. It's basically, the Bridal Couture Week is all about the glamour, the bridal, the colors, and every single thing. And I think they brought it very well together," said Maha Amjad.
Bridal Couture Week is the main event on Pakistan's fashion calendar for bridal fashion.
