As someone who moved to the 'cabin in the woods' (not quite but the idea) recently, life is still life. I love it here, and life has gotten an improvement, but it's not magic. I'm still me, I brought my bad habits with me. I'm still on my phone too much. I get tired and just put a pizza in the oven instead of washing cutting and cooking veggies from the garden, and they grow bad. Work is stressful, I fight over chores with my partner. Etc etc. We all need this, we all need healing. Being able to take a walk in the woods to help with that is such a blessing.

- summery - when you create a "mental breathing space", learn to say no, and eliminate the nonessentials. then we are on track to live a simpler life. 1. Essentialism: - find what's really matters and strip away all the rest - make time for the vital few rather than the trivial many 2. Endowment effect : - ask yourself if it's essential or not - act as if you already don't own it, would I put an effort to get it again? 3. saying no - If it isn't a "hell yes" then it's a No - we saying No to the nonessential to free up time and space to the essential few. 4. space - create the mental breathing space in your own place

I appreciate that you addressed the recent rise in "cottagecore" content. It's so easy to forget that the content people create, images, stories, vlogs, snapshots, are heavily curated through editing to show only the rosy and glossy and highly aesthetic. I want everyone to have access to their natural areas and feel connected to nature, but I often worry that the simplistic ideas shown via social media let's us forget why "cottagecore" is actually so appealing. The effort to live in nature sustainably, with a strong balance of giving to the earth along with taking is what you don't see in the "cottagecore" content. Anyway, I agree, essentialism is the way forward. I like to pair it with environmentalism so my priorities, plans, and goals align with a healthy and thriving planet

Yes to this and caring about the Earth! Do not go out and cut down trees! I also notice, the presenters don't mention a location (at least in general). I bring this up because I'm not going to pollute the Earth driving, trying to "find it". I take the notion, like with this lovely video, and thing where can I walk or bike for what I can Nature Time....

Similar to my thoughts when watching this video. It's good advice for someone who's already doing too much, but as an introvert that has to really push myself to maintain the social connections that I value, the idea of having my standard being "only the social activities I would go out and actively work to make happen on my own" would end up with me in solitude for potentially months at a time, lol. But I feel like I'm at a good balance right now, of pushing myself to do more but still listening for when my battery is running low and being willing to say no at strategic points so that the more socially inclined don't end up draining me too much. And I like the advice about whether I would go out of my way to get the items have, I'm working on decluttering right now and I think this will be a very helpful question to ask.
@katy8605
@katy8605 Год назад
yes this is what I was wondering about because I think I would just about always say no and I don't always know if it's for the right reasons. Maybe I am just staying in my introvert comfort zone and I'm eventually going to end up alienating everyone I know because majority of the time I find being social nonessential.

Living in a bustling city like Seoul, it can be really hard to find those quiet moments because even if you become more mindful, there are still lights, ads, and people creating content ALL around! Try to find a peaceful moment at river, but everyone is just posing and taking pictures. You start to feel weird and out of place for just enjoying something with your eyes. And, in my case... I get quite annoyed in my quest for a peaceful moment. I think with the explosion of social media apps, we've become so backwards. Nature is no longer a thing to appreciate, but instead a thing to enhance our own appreciation. I think I heard it from the minimalists, "we have all of these people taking all of these photos to places they never even experienced." Take the picture so you can remember the moment and the beauty of the scene, but also remember to be in the moment. Pictures of beautiful places also help later when you maybe don't have time to go out. you can look through your camera roll and revisit the things you found beautiful and relaxing that day. I'm not sure if any of that makes sense, but I hope you can understand my meaning.

We often take the fundamental and basic things of life (health, time, being alive etc) for granted...and hunt for physical temptations of the external world (a temptation that actually can never be fulfilled as it's infinite). Only when we start losing those "Basic" things of life, we actually start valuing them and stop craving for more and more of the materialistic world. Minimalism can only be learnt after someone loses something which he/she once took for granted. 😊

For many years I have been focused on minimalizing and being happy with less stuff. Over the years I did notice that some things were added and some things were reduced. I learned I wasn’t fully a minimalist but rather an essentialist because there were so many things I had I didn’t need and valued to those that I did value. It also affected other areas of my life to taking care of my health and having good friends which create an abundance by having a better quality of life. I was blessed with an near death accident that in addition to causing life long physical challenges, I also suffered a near death accident that took away my memory. I had a brain like a new born baby which required me to relearn everything. The blessing was that all the stuff in my life meant nothing to me. I didn't recognize it as mine, or that I had made it so releasing it to charity was so easy. Since I can no longer drive, or walk without the occasional assistance from my dear husband, getting out is no longer an option so I have found deep enjoyment in being at home in a quiet and now uncomplicated life. T.V. was never a source of entertainment because I grew up in a log house on a glacier lake in the wilderness of Canada where my surrounding was filled with things to explore and the sound of nature. Yes, we can all create a life filled with harmony by asking ourselves "do I need it, or do I just want it?" Since my accident our Heavenly Father has been with me every step of my amazing journey and He has given me strength on the days that challenge the most. God Bless you for all that you share and keep shining out your radiant light. 🙏

Just what I needed. You hit the nail on the head with essentialism. Didn't know that that is a thing. But this is what I've been searching for. Thank you for putting my feelings into words.

There is just so much hype around the idea to leave everything behind and seek joy as if everyone is priviliged enough to sustain themselves this way. You've nailed this concept👌🏼

Always waiting for your video! And sometimes I binge watch your videos for some feel good vibe, even though I know the content. I have a request. Could you please make a video on how to be a Vegan outside food aspect as well? If you can do a vlog, even better. for example, what kinda clothes and cosmetics do you shop that are cruelty free? what material (for clothes) do you buy? footwear? etc. Would love to know. please do a video on that! Thanks :)

Really loved the messages in this video. If I’m having a hard time saying no to social stuff I ask myself if this event was cancelled would I feel relief or disappointment. If it’s relief then maybe it shouldn’t be a priority. Doesn’t work every time but is definitely something I find helpful.

Loved this video. Thanks for posting this one. Nice to have watched it on a day when I decluttered my living room even more than it was. It feels so inviting, stress free and most of all zen like with all neutral colors, textures, warm wood and lots of green plants. Now for a warm cup of tea 🤗

Love this. I went through this several years ago and it’s been tough since I lost touch with friends that only invited to social events but declined personal connection experience invites (ie, I’d decline going to a bar or drinking party, but invite to coffee or lunch and be declined). But I have found deeper connections with friends, as well.
