Designing my own Kirby Ability 

I love how out-there you brainstormed for Kirby abilities, but I'd have to say Construction is ultimately my favorite because it feels the most like something HAL would actually make. I can already envision the pink puffball smacking enemies with a wrench, shaking the ground with a jackhammer, building small robots to help him attack, and spinning enemies around with a comically-sized drill. Also, your Kirby sprite is so cute!!

The cat version's ability would be that your controller doesn't work anymore and Kirby would just take a nap.

There isn't a Cat Kirby, no, but there is an Animal Kirby that's sort of along those lines. Kind of a mole/Tasmanian devil type thing. Kirby tends to shy away from real world animals outside of the Animal Friends from Kirby's Dream Land 2 and Kirby's Dream Land 3, probably so the world can feel more fantastical and dream-like. Great video! It's interesting to see how someone that's largely unfamiliar with the series interprets it, and your spritework is really nice.

In the Kirby Dreamland games, he gets allies. They’re mainly just real world animals that you team up with to fight baddies, but it is fun Kirby’s placement on the animals changes. For instance, for the goldfish partner, rather than riding on top, Kirby’s head actually sticks out of his mouth. It’d be cool to see you design an ally and a team up sprite!

On the punch animation, you forgot to make it drip slime like the fist did on the static sprite.

5:41 yeah, in kirby superstar even they state that only when kirby has a hat from a transformation, that transformation is permanent. Otherwise you can only use it a few times. It's just for that game tho, and awesome art btw!

I absolutely loved the spritework at the end!! The design looked brilliant! I think the only thing that seemed a little weird to me was Kirby's face in the animation - it looked like it wasn't quite lining up with the movement of the punch (mostly his eyes, it looks as if his left eye is not connected to his face). But it might just be the animation student in me haha. Brilliant work! excited to see what you make next :)

At first I didn’t really like the idea of a radioactive Kirby copy ability, but with your spritework it grew on me in literally about a minute!

I really do enjoy the step by step in your process. I tend to have a hard time really planning out how I want the animation to flow but seeing someone show their process really helps out in helping refine out my own process in places that I lack. Great video as always~

Cyborg Kirby: stuns enemies with shots from his eye and can pick up and throw stunned enemies with his new cybernetics. Katby: quick and quirky moveset but not very strong. Construction Kirby: throws tools and can set dynamite as a reference to the fusion ability from Kirby 64 that gives him a hardhat. Fallout Kirby: Disjointed hitbox with continuous damage after an attack

All of these copy ability concepts are so cute! I especially love construction Kirby

"Baby, you got a slime going!" Amazing. If you were to add the actual slime from the still image hanging off Kirby's hand to the animation, what would you do with it? Just curious.

This is a very plausible Kirby. That slime punch both looks like it's a viable mechanic by itself, and that there could be nuclear/acid/poison/slime effects that affect specific enemies and environmental hazards/gates intuitively. Very nicely conceptualized and animated! I also adore little slime snail, really nails the Kirby aesthetic. But without the CRT blur, your inhale Kirby looks... well, he looks like he should get tested for herpes. Something about the colors, and the expression on his face?

First of all, Kirby is my favourite retro character, so thank you for exploring this! I really love all the abilities you tried out. And thank you as always for the breakdown on the animation process. I'll definitely be referencing this for my own work. :)

For the Fallout Kirby, you should've studied the Fighter ability (Kirby Super Star). That might've helped your design.

I love the kirby designs. Some minor critiques: - I loved the idea of using hazard tape, but you quickly lost any semblance after shading it. Now it just looks like a striped bandana. - Give the hard hat a 1 pixel bump edge in the middle top with slight curved shading partly down.

My dream is to design games, and the process you went through in this video really just made me want to start now! I’m only 13, and I still need a lot more practice, and I’m still learning how to code, but the design process and just the freedom you get when creating games is beautiful.

Im gonna make the moveset ideas for the other abbilities because i have nothing else to do: Cyborg kirby: B:can shoot a laser just like the laser abbility,it can bounce off stuff though,dash +B:shoot a laser up and down and close them in,B in the air:turn in to a ball of a laser Cat kirby:B:scratch like animal kirby,dash +B:dash forward and bite,B in air:scratch like B in the air hammer Construction kirby:B:build a block like the unused block copy ability and the block can be used as a projectile like the ice blocks the ice copy ability leaves Dash +B:dash forward and if theres an enemy you turn them into your robot servant like a helper(only 1 at a time,if you try to use it again you just damage the enemy),B in the air:make a missile that launches down and blows up damaging any nearby enemies,Dash+B next to enemy:grab the enemy and press B and turn them into a random copy ability,if this gets 10 likes i will make extra moves for the fallout kirby(because fallout kirby only has 1 move)

Small note regarding copy ability design; Kirby *ALWAYS* gets a hat or other headgear (like a bandana, or scouter) of some kind. The cat one wouldn't work as is, but could *absolutely* work if you gave kirby one of those plush animal beanie hats.

the construction Kirby was honestly the idea most distinct from existing Copy Abilities in the franchise. wouldn't mind seeing it fleshed out there're already Laser (as you mentioned), Animal, Poison, and Fighter Copy Abilities (the Poison ability even comes from something similar to a snail - it's a slug frog though)

I was kind of hoping there was a bit of follow through on the goop on the glove that snaps back and leads after the pullback lmao. Excellent work!

I will say that your Kirby is well planned out and designed, but one more thing I would recommend is when your designing your Kirby that you try to keep the chibi feel of his original aesthetic. This is a key component in making a Kirby as the focus of most of his transformations isn’t to really change the feel of it, but more so to create an “alternate universe” feel as if Kirby took that characters place. I love the final look and design of Fallout Kirby, and think you did an amazing job, well done!

The Slime Kirby is a really fun idea. I absolutely love it.

I like your version with the softer coloured outlines more, then again don't know how it would look against the background of the game, but by itself its nicer to look at. Making up transformations for Kirby must have been a lot of fun for the designers, would be nice to see all the crazy concepts that didn't make it

The concept of a mutant Kirby is really cool but I think construction Kirby fits the series more

Really exciting to have a channel that does pixel art! I was thinking maybe for your next mock up video why not do mad max? Or water world? I feel like mad max would be a perfect combination of everything you have shown us so far and it adds one new thing to the scene... Explosions!

Really like the animated kirby! My own personal favourite was the cyborg version as I can imagine lots of crazy animations with a cyborg.

Great video as usual, watching your process is really helpful. It makes me wish I kept more of my intermediate steps so I could review what I'm doing the way you do, instead of having only the final image to reflect on. I think having the eyes move apart for a frame messed with the perspective a little, preserving the facial proportions probably should have taken priority over realistic movement over a sphere since it's such a cartoony style. But hey, that's the privilege that comes with backseat designing!

1:10 I KNEW IT! Why do so many pixelart channels claim that shadows have low saturation, it makes no sense! Highlight = high brightness, low saturation, shadow = low brightness, high saturation.
