Ok so here are my 2 cents and tips. *Sheer gothic top:* I would make the design using a simple satin stitch on your machine. Print/draw out your design on dissolvable paper and pin the fabric on the paper then sew through both fabric and paper, dissolve after. The design goes on before cutting the pattern pieces out or sewing the pattern pieces together that’s the important part *Gold casual moon armor:* leather and gold leather paint (NOT spray paint Kira) are an option, you could even get gold pu leather. *Bat waistcoat:* Starch is great but *it will not hold its shape like this just with Starch* (painful first hand experience) you need some boning all the way to the tip of the “wings” and some good heavy duty interfacing. Suuuper excited about the Barbie dress

I think making the skirt of the bat coat in panels, and using wide horsehair in each panel separately would help

Recommend looking into couching cords on fabric! Once you get used to it, it's a great way to add patterns and designs to fabrics fast and cheap! You can get really fancy with it or just zigzag stitch over string. Don't even have to pin it, just draw your lines on fabric and follow with the chord as you stitch. Feel like it would be perfect for any web patters you want
@karlarose536

I was thinking this also. A bit fiddly sometimes, depending on the cording and fabric, but still much faster than embroidery.

Bernadette ( don't kill me if i spelled that wrong) recently did a wool cloak/coat and for interesting designs did a tatting design that would be easy to use and then you can avoid having to paint or painstakingly embroider but does require a tad bit of sewing. horsehair grain fabric when you want a smooth structure in waist coats. i think the leaf dress if you went a bit more medieval would be really fun and interesting please yes do the new years dress YES ODETTE
@ruththompson7816
@ruththompson7816 7 месяцев назад
My thoughts on the sheer Gothic top: I would base the method kinda off of Bernadette Banner's lingerie dress videos. Make the sheer top base first, then trace out the design you want on your mannequin. Then with a narrow lace or ribbon (I feel like a velvet ribbon would look really nice) pin along those lines and stitch it down on either side. Though you would want to make sure you got a stretchy ribbon so it lies down nicely on all those seams. Just my two cents. But I feel like I want to try this now!

Fun fact for any cosplayer but specifically bc Kira mentioned it lol, Big z fabrics has about a bajillion colors of microsuede for a reasonable price, also, a lot of machines have a "satin" stitch option which creates essentially embroidered lines so you don't have to do that by hand

@PricklyAlpaca for the different colors of Swede for the Autumn waist-coat (whenever you want to make it) I would suggest starting with a few piles of a simple mid toned or beige fabric, and diy each pile the color want. You can test it with a small swatch of fabric to make sure the diy makes it the color you’re looking for. Tips for dying fabric.. #1, pre wash the fabric to make sure it’s clean. #2, boil a large pot of water and gradually add the diy a little bit at a time. (Use a scrap piece of the fabric you intend to diy in order to make sure it doesn’t end up the wrong shade) #3, depending on the fabric you should make sure the diy mixture isn’t too hot before using it. Some fabric can get ruined if it’s too hot. #4, I suggest Rit brand diy, mostly because it’s what I’ve seen people use the most on RU-vid and it always looks awesome. #5, make sure to wash the fabric thoroughly in warm water and then cold, just in case so it doesn’t bleed onto everything it touches.. #6, … enjoy making whatever you’re heart desires!! In every color you want to!!! 🥳

Funny thing is, I found your channel only after I had completed designing an Autumn themed cloak modeled after the leaf of a Big Leaf Maple. The cloak was structured to have the points of the leaf nearest to the stem fold around and over the shoulders almost like a shall. And the collar was modeled after the part of the leaf stem the connects to the branch. As for the colors, the collar was a yellowish green fading quickly into, well, yellow. Then rapidly going to orange, and finally a rich blue-toned red (which was the majority of the cloak). With a slight dark rusted brown at the tips of the leaf points. Basically what I'm saying is that I LOVE your aesthetic!

For the queen of hearts costume, I saw a huge trend on Instagram and probably in tiktok with people who cut through white vest or random t-shirts a heart and after that they sewed different beads on it to make like a blood ligne or veins. It could be an idea if you can remasterise this concept and turn it less creepy for valentine days 😊.

Hey Kira! I absolutely love your videos, and you always inspire me to draw my own fantasy characters with beautiful outfits and EXTREME DETAIL. I just wish that my characters were real… and I’ve decided that im going to make one of the outfits I daydream of. With no experience. At all. Yay! (I guess you can skip the next three paragraphs because it’s kinda just word vomit) This dress is a version of Lucy Gray Baird that I imagined in my head when I read the book. I saw real movie references of her, and I was very dissapointed. If needed more ruffles, more rainbow, and it needed to be brighter! My idea is of Lucy Gray wearing a ginormous tutu skirt with 3 layers. The bottom is the largest, made of a gradient between a little light blue, dark blue, indigo, violet, and pink. The middle layer is smaller and kinda tilted, consisting of lime green, green, turquoise, and light blue. This skirt also has two pieces of fabric that frame it a bit and I have no idea what it’s called but I wanted to add it. The last skirt is the smallest and tilted this time, in the other direction. This one only has red, orange and yellow. The corset is exactly matching the one Rachel Zegler is wearing. It has some sort of nature lookin pattern on it that I can paint onto the bodice I make. In the book, Lucy Gray is supposed to have a sleeveless dress, but the movie is definitely not following that, so nor will I. The sleeves are going to be EXTRA THICK AND EXTRA POOFY, giving off the same vampire sleeves that you make. It has one big poof at the shoulder with a bit of ruffle, and then at the wrist it has smaller poof. I like the poof. I know I want to wear this costume for Halloween, because the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes movie will be out by then, and I’ll have a possible chance to be recognized. That makes it about a full year to learn everything I can about fashion designing and crafting and seamstressing so I can make the dress looking… about decent. I’ll use skillshare or something for this, but Kira, the great goddess of super awesome art, if you have any tips for me to start this, it would be greatly appreciated. plot twist: Kira doesn’t see this

Instead of "happy santa" how about leaning into the pagan jul/ yule aesthetic? lots of evergreen foliage, blood and bone. Also, if the strawberries are overdone, (and the wrong season) how about blackberries & brambles? It still has the cute fruit vibe but a bit more whimsygoth.

7:48 If you want to try and fake an embroidery look without spending an eternity sewing, I have found either using some king of heat activated puff-paint works (you can buy it as a fabric paint medium and add it to your paint) or 3D fabric paint with a nozzle works pretty well. The £D paint will give you thin, clean lines while the puff paint allows you to have more of a 3-dimentional painting look.

For some of the embroidery designs (and chain details, when the chain rests on the garment instead of dangling like fringe) you might consider ribbons! A soft ribbon, sewn to the fabric, which might even be doable by sewing machine. It'll create a wider line faster than embroidering thread-by-thread. There's also ribbon embroidery, which is exactly what it sounds like (embroidering with ribbons), but will have the ribbon scrunch in on itself with each stitch - great for adding flowers and texture, not so good for long smooth lines. Another way to add texture: corded piping! It wouldn't work for sharp corners or fine details, but some of the long vertical lines on the Gothic Tank Top would look so cool with piping, like the fluted sculpting on the buildings that inspired the look. Also works for leaf veins!

Things I learned for embroidering clothing you plan on wearing as a daily outfit: Single-thread metallic/holographic thread (like what's used in fairy hair) is beautiful and can create fine detailing, but it tangles and easily. If you plan on washing the outfit, don't use this. (I used it for veins on dragonfly wings and it looks awesome but it hasn't survived the washing machine well). When sewing with it, make small stitches and use shorter lengths when sewing with to minimize tangling (since it's so fine, it's next to impossible to untangle the stuff). Six strand embroidery floss is the standard. Great for most things, but depending on the size of your stitches, it can break/become fuzzy after washing. Good for light/medium wear, but not heavy wear. I used it on a pair of jeans and it looked great. After a lot of washing, however, the threads have broken in some places and are fuzzy. The thread also doesn't stretch, so putting it near joints will cause the stitching to tug/warp and sometimes break. It's great to use, I've just found it needs some planning. Pearl cotton floss: Similar to six strand, but all strands are twisted together into a thicker, solid thread. Excellent for high-wear items. Again, you don't want your stitches to be too large, but this kind of thread holds up well in the washing machine and doesn't fray or become fuzzy. It is harder to make some stitches (like French knots) but I've had a shirt I embroidered years ago and it is still in the same condition as when I first made it. I'm a beginner and I've embroidered things I probably shouldn't (like jeans, but shorts turned out well), but I hope some of this is helpful.

An Odette dress would be so amazing! I made the full ball gown for a con and people loved it! Would also love to see that strawberry dress armor! 😍😍

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE THE ODETTE DRESS SOMEDAY!!! Barbie in Swan Lake was one of my absolute favorite movies as a kid! Her dress is the ONLY ballgown I would ever wear personally if I owned one. I am not a ballgown girl, but that dress is my dream dress. It would be killer to see you put your own spin on it too.

I think it's really cool you like roses. They may be seen as stereotypical in the realm of love, but they've got an epic backstory. You should check out Aphrodite's story and her correlation to roses if you haven't already!

Strawberry porcelain corset? Like a tea set vibe? With a pastel goth/floaty lolita dress
