We use to camp there two weekends per month during the winter, but in the renovation they put up sodium vapor lights that stay on all night, like a Walmart parking lot. Couldn't sleep, so we found some other campgrounds where we could watch the stars.

use to stay at Desoto. But after they put up the all night sodium lights I quit. Not the camping I like. Like to watch stars, not here. Now staying elsewhere Back when Talmage Butler was there, met him for coffee each morning. Been going there since 1977. Still bring the scouts up there on our way to summer camp. We have a secret swimming place in Little River Canyon. Swim, jump, sunbath all day. Eat lunch and hike out just before dark. Also have other places to hike and explore. Since the park service took over LRC, they have made major improvements and increased security. In the winter we hike Bear Creek canyon and climb out next to0 a 60' waterfall. Usually takes half a day or so. Normally we bring lunch and explore, hike to Grace High Falls. Thee is no trail, so you make your own. The mothers hate that. Many, many interesting stories. Once we had crossed the creek, and when crossing back, there was no dry path to take. Told scouts to take off shoes and tie shoestrings together, hang around neck. Typical, one scout didn't do that and dropped shoe in creek. As we watched it float down the creek, I picked up a rock and threw it at the shoe and commanded my lab to "fetch". She jumped in the water and swam down to the shoe, believing that was what I had thrown and brought the shoe back. good girl. Hiked out beside the 60' waterfall and back to the cars. Had lunch by the picnic area and overlook. Pretty exciting for 12-13 year old boys. The adults are always shocked by the hike, but love it. Lots of talk at campfire about the hike. I wonder how many have been back on their own now. Have heard a few stories. Just love that place. Reply
