I still regret giving away this treasure when I migrated in 1970. I can still remember every note of every tune, that's shows how many times between 1966 and 1970 I listened to this classic. One of, if not the best, steelband recording.
This was just 4 years after Independence, a smaller population, smaller bands, less competition. One year later the trend changed with Cavalliers from San Fernando who brought a big band sound to the capital with the tune '67, the next year Solo Harmonites did the same and blew us away with their Wrecker and the change set in. As long as you know the melody the music will move you.
I agree. I've always felt that with pan there should be more of the actual tune and just a hint of added arrangement. Now it seems usually the other way around .
