"Desperate Housewives" star Marcia Cross is on a mission to destigmatize anal cancer

Award-winning actress Marcia Cross is perhaps best known for her role as the perfect homemaker on the TV series, "Desperate Housewives." She was diagnosed with anal cancer about a year-and-a-half ago. After Cross completed radiation and chemotherapy, she reached out to CBS News medical contributor Dr. Jon LaPook to share her story.

@@noraekard413 I got the HPV virus in my body due to being married to a seriel cheating spouse. Divorced him once I was diagnosed. He never denied the cheating. I had been checked out prior to this marriage for it & had been fully cleared by my OB/GYN doctor for any diseases, so I did not already have it. The cheating spousecwas checked during the divorce & he was the "carrier" because they could tell how long he had it. I was fully faithful before & during the marriage.

Let's hope ALL the parents who watch this learn about the countless deaths, disabilities and cases of *PARALYSIS* cause by Merck's lethal HPV vaccines, known as Gardasil. I do hope that Marcia figures this out too, before her children are hurt, unless this was all a huge stunt. Merck's Gardasil rakes in more than *2 BILLION* per year. So, they have enough money to buy off almost anyone who is up for sale and I hope this is not true of Marcia, since I've always liked her. I thank my mother for getting me to get the HPV vaccine when I was a teen. At the time it was advertised as gardasil, a "girl vaccine" and as a dumb teenage boy I was against getting the shot. Now in my late 20s looking back I'm actually glad I got the shot, to prevent stuff like this. Thank you Marcia for sharing your story.

It kind of upsets me that when the HPV vaccine came out years ago I was told, “You’re a man & in your early 20’s you don’t need it.” Now the FDA has approved it for men & women up till age 45. I just remember the doctor being so blasé about it all. Sheesh. PS I adore Marcia Cross & I’m glad she and her husband are healthy again. Desperate Housewives forever! 😉 🍎 #DesperateHousewives

I've had cryosurgery done & precancerous cells removed through leep surgery from my cervix from getting HPV from my ex. He slept with many women. When I had a pap test done the gynecologist also did an HPV test & medicare has denied paying for it. I didn't even know she did this test while she was doing the pap test. She's the expert & due to my medical history she felt it was necessary to do, so it's amazing strangers at medicare have decided I didn't need it. Now insurance companies are saying a woman should only have a pap test once every three years. With all the cancers I feel this isn't right to do to women. I'm surprised women aren't marching in the streets over this. Men can have a prostate exam yearly & their insurance pay for it.

I Have Chrons & Suffered With It For Over 30 something Years And I’m 46. My Grandmother died of Colon Cancer And Had many Elements thAt didn’t Take her Life. And they were Horrid. I’m So Glad Your Ok now Mrs. Cross. It’s a Internal Medicine Physician- they handle Colonoscopies.

Tony Vega yes, I do know about that. Thank you, I just meant about most tests now...insurance companies are not wanting to pay for what they deem unnecessary tests. She however said annual rectal exams. Seemed odd., however she is older than I am, maybe hers was routine for her age.

@@SparKOps What lives has it saved? There is zero proof that it prevents cancer, not one case. The fact that hpv even causes cancer is debateable. 90% of hpv clears the body completely, no issues. Condoms are safer.

Truth seeker. condoms are safer and stop the spread of the virus but unfortunately not everyone looks after their body. The vaccine is in the early stages yet. Might take years to get any true idea on how many lives taken by it and how many lives saved. Until then the vaccine is there.

HPV vaccine has horrible side effects and risks that the doctors won't inform you about on the small leaflet they hand out. I hope all those considering will read the web site for side effects. My son had only the first one in the series and he felt like he was having a heart attack all week after. The web site states that the symptoms get more pronounced with each in the series.

I didn't know there was a taboo or stigma with a health issue. We're all dirty, pooping animals. If you've got an issue, get it fixed. My problem is that she's only focusing on the issue that she has vs. trying to remove a stigma around health issues in general, if she really believes this is a problem.

@@pchuck1439 hpv transforms into cncer in like 10 to 15 years. He probably had the virus, passed it to her and she didnt have any pain until she discovered she had cancer.
