Bang on Ricky, I go to my local one and spoke to the manager she said we are not hear to be a storage centre, we want to sell it, hence its priced to sell, I wish all charity shops had that mentality
I used to work in the accounts department for a large nationwide charity and you’re right, nobody is buying from the town stores (the big city stores still do ok but towns, not so much). So much just goes in the skip and off to landfill. The write off is absolutely massive! It’s disgusting. Sometimes they might make a bit back from the rag trade or scrap but it’s minimal because they can’t be bothered to do it. They get away with it because people will always donate to them. I hate charity shops nowadays. Most people have been priced out of them. I get they want to cut out the middle man and make as much money as possible but they’re just not and that’s why so many close. It’s sad. The only ones I’ve found worth bothering with are the large Cancer Research superstores.
I used to volunteer in our local Red Cross shop in town and we kept prices very reasonable and also played fair with customers, especially regulars by giving deals or a little more off.... we heard stories of shops making mors money with clothes going in bulk to rags, taken away in huge bags........ they have closed now, so has Bernard's but we have 4 left .....Salvation Army, Marie Curie, Mental Health and Cancer Research....the last one expensive but one of the others is cheap enough but put out stained clothes etc.....worse than anything!x
Two of the three charity shops in my town closed last year, Which left us with Oxfam, There more commercial branded oxfam items in there than donations now. I’ll have to hunt further afield. That first shop you went in was massive! Thanks for the vid mate, always motivates me!
Thanks Ricky, wow that new chazzer of yours is twice three times the size of my new town entire combined triplet of charity shops. May it bless you with the finest of stock going forward good man 🫶
I really enjoyed that video camera skills and everything 😂but you are right they want ridiculous asking prices for pretty much everything sometimes more than what eBay are asking,Oxfam is the next to go I reckon, I can't see anyone ever buying anything from them overpriced and out of there crazy minds asking the same as eBay do they really think stuff in there shop is as good as what's on eBay ? When it's being touched by multiple people over and over.
Thanks Matt. I appreciate that, and it’s not even about the amount of people that touch it to be honest it’s about foot foot fall. You can’t price something at eBay prices which has a global audience in a shop that has a local audience. It’s just bizarre.
I used to go to ten shops and fill boot of my car, now I can go to twenty or thirty and be lucky if I find one item, so don't really bother anymore as it's such a time suck. Obv they're not there for us resellers but even for the regular customer most are riddled with fakes, poor quality items at mad prices. Worn and stained items at higher prices than new in tkmax. Whenever I'm in one they're often turning away people coming in with free donations as they have too much stock out back and yet have the same stock on rails/shelves for six months. Only way you can do well in them now is knowing more about unusual brands or catching them slipping, Double RL at normal ralph prices etc.
That Salvation Army shop probably shut down because they recently opened a massive superstore down off the Robin Hood Roundabout (Junction of A4 & A34) next to B&M opposite the Toby Carvery 🍺👍🏻
Ohh yea I completely forget about that one too, probably because it’s a bit out the way, plus I always end up spending a fortune in Gregg’s when I pop in there 😭
They want to knock down the kennet center and make it like park way but will keep the cinema king fu and Nando’s there on about making a walk through where Nelson’s diner was
A charity shop told me they are not here to earn me a wage and during our conversation she told me she is a paid employee, so i have erased that charity shop from my rosta as " i am not here to earn her a wage either"
All charities are a con! Before the internet I worked at Royal Mail, donations were made to PO Boxes, they’d come and collect, they find their own lifestyle first, they’d turn up in BMW’s, range rovers and Audis. How do charity workers afford them?
my favourite our the indopendant one aswell . i will always look in them and try and find them slipping but defintley price themselve out of market . hope you managed to get to car boot sale today
If you put yourself out there you have to take the knocks from people, you can please some people sometimes but you can’t please them all time. Social media has given the world a chance to be a critic
The prices in charity shops now are crazy they will sell a shirt from primark for a tenner and you can buy it brand new for a fiver 😂 if they sell low they would stay in business and sell more bonkers✌️😎 ricky
Ricky making death of the high street videos now ayee?😅🤷♂️ Great watch, not every trip is a winner and this is a perfect example of the ‘luck of the draw’ 🫡
Jesus ffing christ I was in the barbour factory shop this weekend and they were selling brand new barbour jumpers for less than that charity shops man it's like they want you shopping online
@@RickyResells They've asked to remain anonymous, I've had a word but they aint budging mate! They also say they picked up a 'HeroQuest' (complete) seconds before you arrived! bit harsh!
@@improvingme2day I can’t work out the angle of your comments to be honest 😅 you just told me they are from a 1930s thrift channel meaning they are on RU-vid but you don’t want to give me the information - something smells fishy 🐠
@@RickyResells yeah I've never been a good liar Ricky! should of just sent a generic message. this is good for channel engagement though! I want you beating that George Ross! 'Like and Subscribe guys'
Doesn’t seem that long ago since you was flirting you way round the town old dears in the town centre filling a bag full of bangers. Different times but you will crack bit 👍
A lot of the Medical charities have their fingers in so many pies now that their high street shops are more of a show a presence than the main source of their income. Yes they have to make a profit, but they no longer have to give stuff away at such low cost as they can afford to sit on stuff. Take BHF as an example: they have a large amount of events each year, plus a lottery, donations, eBay, and like most have moved into selling more furniture for higher profits. I honestly see the longer term future for fulltime resellers is that many will have to get used to the fact that we will have to work harder, sell more, and expect a lower R.O.I on a lot of stuff. I have to admit to having serious thoughts of finding part time employment next year to take some of the daily pressure off.
I find BHF are the worst, although I’ve had some really good stuff from there. I’d say it’s 1/10 trips that something’s worth picking up. My clothing retail shop was 4 stores down from them and they used to come in (the managers) and price up their stuff just below mine. Cheeky slaves lol I have a good local one that’s a small non branch one that’s an actual charity shop with no director. All clothes are £1, usually fill a bag up with 5/6 items and still leave stuff for others.
Some charity shops are expensive but there is 2 cheaper, I love going to the cheaper ones but I have to stop going in because I am addicted of buying too many clothes. I am reselling too but not had a lot of buyer's, now I have got loads of items and clothes,I am moving soon and been told I can't take it all. Help!!
Yeah melatonin is not a sleeping tablet it replaces a chemical/hormone your body isn’t producing enough of as it gets dark. So increasing the dose is going to make you feel like you should still be Sleeping
Charity shops are getting over priced, even for none resellers. Iv seen primark stuff at nearly the same price it would be in the shop. Still the odd bargain now and now and again.
Its not rocket science though, a local charity shop has a limited amount of local traffic (footfall) to achieve maximum retail prices for used goods you need people looking for specific items of interest. Pair that with average people just browsing for a bargain and you have two major problems. You cant rely on off chances that someone is going to walk in and think I wonder if they have a Barbour fleece for sale THATS EXACTLY MY SIZE! This kind of customer would just jump online and search and pick the one he likes online and have a multitude of options and conditions to look through instead rather than off chance random searching and hoping. See its people like yourself that just cannot grasp this concept that don't understand! And unfortunately its managers and upper tier staff that have the same mindset as yourself. Then they wonder why they struggle to meet targets, stock never shifts for months on end, and stock rotation is none existent in some shops. You just don't get it! Letme go deeper: a charity shop can exponentially achieve more sales and have the till ringing constantly without this mentality, therefore smashing targets, shifting stock, always having new stock on the shop floor, which in turn = more footfall. Are you getting it yet? Its the reason many are shutting down, they dont understand these concepts. The big managers and CEO's are clueless. Charity shops have volume, free stock! so they should be volume sellers, selling 100x more stock for cheaper prices will still beat waiting for the odd higher tier price, which in turn smashes targets and creates the revenue needed to pay wages, rent and survival of them on the high street long term. If you work in a charity shop by chance its about time you understood economics. Charity shops are slowly killing themselves, its just fact, we are first hand witnessing it, but of course people like me that can see their mistakes will be wrong according to those who cannot grasp the truth. Lets see in the next 5 years!
BHF gets their stuff for free, they literally have no reason to “make a profit” besides from paying the rent and their CEOs. Also that one person might want that very item at that very moment in time hence why they buy on eBay
