This is our first time trying Malaysian Kueh / Kuih - In this video, we ordered some 'kuih / kueh' to try them out and see how they taste like as from the way they look, they look totally DELICIOUS !
There are incredibly great amount of dessert in Malaysia made out of pandan, butterfly pea and of course coconut. You'll find a bunch of street vendors selling snack treats known as kuih / kueh. The interesting thing is that some of them are wrapped in banana leaf and what stuff inside is a gem ! If you visit malaysia, not only the food itself, but make sure you look for malaysian dessert and try it out as well !
Location Filmed : Hin bus terminal, Penang island of Malaysia.

You do not have to be rich to travel non-stop -
American and Thai Millennials left the career in military and finance to become travel story tellers, proving the world that you don't have to be rich to travel well. Met in August, 2015 in South Korea, kicked off traveling in September, 2017 with $4000 in saving account and first started publishing our journey on the way we live the life we have always dreamt of - traveling and being able to work wherever we love ( as long as there is Wi-Fi and coffee)
☼ Currently homeless, live the life out of luggage, travel non-stop, and grow love along the way.
☼ We are deeply into traveling, doing what locals do, managing the budget to travel non-stop, challenging ourselves daily.
☼ Everything we show you here is to not only show you how our world is such an interesting place to explore, but also inspire you to live the life you love especially when you dream of traveling.

Thank you for doing this. I mis Penang kuihs. Here is the rundown of the kuihs you had 1) Kuih Serimuka: Sticky rice cooked with coconut and dyed with blue pea flower (you guys got it right) and the top can be considered a custard because it has eggs and pandan juice, flour etc. 2) Kuih Talam Jagung Manis: you guys got all the ingredients right. This is like the 'pastry' version of the Iced Chendol if you realise, the ingredients are the same 3) Rempah Udang or Pulut Panggang: Sticky rice cooked with coconut milk, mixed with Sambal Hehbee (Spicy Shrimps with coconut), then wrapped in banana leaves and grilled, yummmmmmzzzzzzzzzz 4) Tah's favourite is Kuih Talam, which is the Green (pandan juice mixed with rice flour, mung bean flour, sugar..) and White (Coconut milk, rice flour, mung bean flour, salt). A heavenly blend of sweet & salty

The kuih/kueh (small cake/dish in Malay), solidised pandan custard and steamed glutinous rice (pulut in Malay) (normal version is just white, but some nyonya/Peranakan version has colour) is called Kuih Sri Muka (Charmed Face Kueh).

5:10 the kuih is called Pulut Panggang (Grilled Sticky Rice) or Pulut Udang (Shrimp Sticky Rice). As usual, that sticky rice normal version is white, but peranakan alway want to show beautified image. The filling is shreded old coconut flesh slow stir fry with sambal udang (chilly paste with dried small shrimp).

The Nyonya thing with the sticky rice and Serunding inside (it's not coconut) is called pulut panggang And it's supposed to taste spicy.
@vincentchin88
@vincentchin88 5 лет назад
There is a story of the nyonya kueh that I read from the Wartime History Kitchen book. Once upon a time, the Nyonyas were very tradition-proud of their kueh/cakes and would serve to their guests that came to their homes. It was never sold outside. Then World War II came and Penang was not spared. During the difficult period, the Nyonyas needed to do something to supplement their income. That was when their culinary skill was put to good stead. They began to make their Nyonya kuehs and sold it to the public. For the first time, locals too get to taste these wonderful morsels. Remember your earlier episode with the large colorful tiffins? It was also used then to carry the kuehs for sale by the roadside. I would think that Nyonya kueh should be voted as Malaysia's UNESCO heritage food because the people who are making these traditional cakes are getting lesser and lesser due to the sheer amount of work. The sad part is that nobody jumps when Starbucks sells a ten ringgit central-kitchen made croissant but they will balk when a kueh is raised by ten cents or so. I am glad you enjoyed these wonderful kuehs as much as the lads from Beer for Breakfast (whose favourite kueh is Seri Muka). Thank you for enjoying a bit of traditional and historic food.

I have to explain this. There are many version of laksa in malaysia. Each region have their own. Kedah laksa/laksa utara/northern laksa is the most simplest form. The key is fresh ingredients, no shrimp paste so very little fish smell. Penang laksa is very elaborate, uses shrimp paste, very fishy flavour, strong fish smell. Johor laksa is the most fusion. It has coconut milk and at times uses spaghetti instead of rice noodle. Sarawak laksa is vermicelli in curry broth. Here the spices really stands out. Singapore laksa can be mistaken as curry noodles.

@HadiAsadGDalHaj

@@moreofacomment yes, if you see any word with C, it will always sound with Ch, there are no K or S sound in alphabet C in romanised Malay (Rumi) writing. Except with loan words from English or other language. But most of will spell with K or S as it is sounded, eg Central will spell as Sentral or Canada will spell as Kanada.

Hey Divert Living! When you said that you are gonna be eating noodles, I thought to myself, Thank God, i can use my oodles of noodles comment! When you have oodles of something, you have a whole lot of it. If you have a big bowl of spaghetti (scene switch to SOMEBODY TOUCHA MY SPAGET! MEME and switch back), then you can say that you have "oodles of noodles." If your RU-vid channel grows big and you have oodles of money, you can buy a huge house with oodles of space for the oodles of puppies you plan to adopt. Of course, you also imagine having oodles of dog nannies to take care of the puppies and clean up after them. I’m just saying, since you love puppies.... ermm.... or kittens... well... well, you can have oodles of something! 😂 But... but... the vlog is about sweet desserts....fear not lovely people, I will use my sweet desserts comment! Hey Divert Living! Studies have shown that you add a few pounds just by watching a food vlogger eat sweet desserts all day! If I put on a couple of pounds after watching this vlog, I know who to blame...😂
