Nestled amidst the steep slopes of the Austrian Alps, along the banks of Lake Wolfgang, is the small town of St. Gilgen. For generations, families have called the tranquil community home, often welcoming back lifelong friends for Sommerfrische (English: "Summer Refreshing") during the warmer months.
In this video, we hear from residents of St. Gilgen about day-to-day life in the town, within Austria's Salzkammergut region. We also hear their experiences as the town has changed over time: new forms of tourism, differences in climate, being chosen as part of the European Union's Capital of Culture, and more!
