*I want to be very clear; I’m only giving Bungie this one chance for Act 1. I saw how much was put into the Final Shape, and so I assumed it would be a weaker first act. However, if this continues, this is definitely a problem.*
I gave them a chance with the final shape and it was awesome. Separately I gave them a chance with episodes and.... Meh. I'm not buying the next one until I see reviews which is the safer option now.
What problem? One chance? Man you will still pay for every content and cosmetics like you always do. You can say whatever but you are still buying and making content with it. If you were actually going to do something, you would not buy it.
The obvious answer is that Act 1 of Echoes was made intentionally sparse in order to give players time to finish TFS and all post campaign content. People forget that not all destiny players are playing 8 hours a day like it's their job. It tracks that things are going to gradually build, just like they always have.
How long are we going to keep saying stuff like this? TFS campaign takes like a week to complete with only an hour or two per day. Post campaign are just some Exotic missions and finding dead ghosts. As for Echoes, you just need one hour a week to catch up on that story. Act 1 was a dud. It should have carried the momentum from TFS, but it fell flat.
😂 if your looking for something to do 30 hours a week, I suggest a job or side hustle. Destiny isn't made to supplement your real life lack of things to do. Go live your life! 😂
The timegate is too long, there is no excuse its more than enough time, plus you can choose your own pace. The time wasting is not for our benefit, its for theirs.
@@cos0 you say that, but half of my friends haven't even finished the campaign yet. Regular people have responsabilities, work, family, etc. Things are not that simple, and the general playerbase, the silent majority, the 9-5 dads with wife and kids are lucky if they can/want to spare 1-2 hours a week to play. People have 40-60 hour work weeks, family they spend time with, stuff they like to do besides gaming, hanging out with friends, doing exercise, touching grass in general. It's gonna take long for people with normal lives and schedules to go through a campaign that you and me could knock out in one day or two.
There is a whole Vex Civil War and we have not seen it. Just a bunch of lore paragraphs telling us it’s happening. I need them to add story components to the gameplay. Let me 3rd party 2 Hydras fighting each other!
Bro we've seen nothing like I'm looking to pull up on the cistern and just see a huge battle field of craters and destruction with vex fighting. Imagine having to thread the needle between that
The problem is that the story quests are still too predictable and follow a standard model. We want things to be shaken up. I dont want to keep doing a weekly quest each week that feels the same because its just talk to vendor, do seasonal activity, talk to vendor, if youre lucky do a quest or see a cutscene
@@Boomer-12347 how exactly do you make a non predictable story constantly And is it worth it As in should they make crazy twist just for the sake of it A lot of people felt the campaign was predictable because we all knew we’d fight the witness in a mission (cuz it lets everyone beat him) and even tho it was predictable af it was still surprising how it was executed For episodes sure we predict it’s maya but so what that doesn’t tell us anything about how that boss will be executed their motives what they do in the story how we beat them etc etc The only thing I can see that’s predictable is going to vendors and it being weekly but that’s not enough to judge a story in its entirety It can judge execution maybe but as a whole? Nah And (this may age bad) but act 2 could break that entire we literally won’t know till act 2 is out
@@SepticEmpire They're not saying the story is predictable, they're saying the way it is delivered is predictable. Your defending is why the game can't even break 90k
I am fine with seasons and episodes. The only thing I will say is that coming back every week for 5m of narrative does massively reduce any impact it could have. For example, the stillhunt quest or the queens quest were really cool narratively because we could go through the whole quest line without waiting. If we had to wait a week to do each step of those quests, I would have not liked them that much.
The multi billion dollar company telling us something wasnt possible before while cramming more microtransactions done our throats is enough to show they havent changed
I think Cross missed the point; it's not about liking or hating Seasons, it's more to do that Bungie said that Episodes ARE DIFFERENT from Seasons, yet there is nothing different about it. It's still "talk to vendor, get data, go to vendor, do some other tasks (vendor bounties/patrols/etc), go to vendor, go do story mission, see you next week." Bungie themselves marketed Episodes as something different than Seasons, but the only differences are the naming and that we have 3 instead of 4.
Yup. It's just a stretched out season by another name. Same formula, same amount of content. Even the season pass is inflated, with the same amount of cosmetics.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we got a sex scene at some point with how hard they’re shilling them, they both have such great interactions with other characters in lore tabs but in all cinematics they’re just in love and repeating each others names endlessly
Absolutely all of this in this comment chain. We get it Bungie. This is the twenty-eighth week in a row you've shown this in show and tell, you really really like it, we understand. Can we get something else please? Like Eris and Drifter stuff, or Elsie's relief after the Final Shape for being freed from her time-loop curse, or Crow settling in as Hunter Vanguard, or any number of more fascinating stories? Give Byf and Venextron and Myelin more interesting stuff to talk about that I can listen to while driving, because I'm not going to experience it through severe time-gated predictable "content" that only serves to pad out the engagement time of your playerbase while minimizing effort for you just to make nice numbers for investors and suits to look at.
Cross, I don’t like time-gating because it brings the story to a grinding halt (pun intended). I don’t care about getting every piece of loot or the god roll. I just want to experience more of the story and lore.
It reaches a point where the whole story just isnt done, they probably work on these till the week they drop And if you just want to experience it all at once, wait for it to be all out and play it

But guns aren't supposed to be too strong to the point where they make everybody other gun useless. Luke imagine gallahorn just instant deleted everything and had infinite ammo. i thought Episodes were gonna be mini expansions like Curse of Osiris. we get to play the story on day 1, and then they can unlock more stuff like activities, exotic missions, and weapons throughout like they’re doing now. i don’t mind time-gating if it’s like that.
@trailmountain8336 there were NOT 3 story missions in curse of Osiris 😂, that story was long as he'll compared to the 4 missions in warmind the expansion after. The end game just sucked cause the infinite forest wasn't infinite, couldn't even walk in without doing an adventure, 1 public event that didn't reward anything, no sparrows in the area, etc.
".... will be bigger and greater" AH YES, last year Paul Shillssy and some bungie devs said there was going to be a *REWORK* in TFS and what did the players got? Go to the Helm talk to X go do X activity talk to X SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY!! 😂😂😂😂😂
Not even wrong lmao, the guy got a cash injection and was told to be nice because Bungie can't afford to have what happened last summer to happen again. Bungie would be gutted by Sony if that happens once more, and I honestly think they couldn't make it any worse than how Bungie has been for years now.
Most of those youtubers and reviewers are shills anyway. TFS is a neatly packed garbage made mostly out of old content, take the Traveler for example, you wait 10 years to learn what it really is, and in the end you learn that it's just a garbage container. Moreover, pseudo-artsy graphic design makes everything look like a cheap vaporware video, it's like someone was too much in love with 3d Studio Max from the 90s. Cheap emotional tricks are the key elements of the story, and they only work for someone who's into anime and its repetitive tropes and aforementioned cheap emotional tricks. Two weeks ago I finally uninstalled Destiny for good. It's just sad to see it end that way, but I've had enough. Guardian down.
Nah. Streamers/no-lifers would blow through everything in a day or two and then we'd get endless complaining. I don't necessarily care for this format, but as a father, husband, full-time worker, I'm appreciative of this downtime. It beats the alternative.
It's legit why I only come back for major dlcs I beat the campaign get the exotics I want then to crucible I go until the next expansion releases been doing that since forsaken after the hype died down

Pass your harshest judgement freely once we get to act 3 at least so we can know how an entire episode will play out before passing judgment on the first act.
@loopygordo You shouldn't be blaming other players for the FOMO that BUNGIE THEMSELVES implement into the game lmfao. Actual delusion. There'd be no worry of fomo if bungie didn't arbitrarily remove seasonal/ battlepass content after a year/3 months. Players that wanna grind through it fast ge tto be happy, and slowpokes like you can enjoy it at your own leisurely time. Oh no... not another dual destiny please. As a solo player I'm on the verge of quitting. I buy every season with the annual pass since I started playing in Season of the Worthy. I was ok with raids being the only content I can't access. But now exotic missions? F*** that. I can't even get a refund for the next seasons. P.S.: Not asking for easier content, not socially anxious or anything, I just like playing alone. It's relaxing. Heck, give me a solo grandmaster level of challenge. But literally locking it behind team play and calling it "creativity" is just nonsense.
The first time Episodes / acts dropped they were supposed to be bigger and better improved over seasons according to bungie. But this time they REALLLLY mean it. Sure bungie.......sure
The only way I can see it working out is if the acts are separated for the world building too. I.e Nessues changes act 2 because everyone should be up to date at that point. Idk, setting was a big gripe of mine and if they consistently update the location in relevance to the narrative I’m a happy camper.
@@rgentum I'd be happy if bungie actually did what they said they were going to do for once. Just meeting expectations of TFS being good is not enough.

Or and ik this may seem crazy af Maybe act 1 is purposely made to have less that way people still grinding post campaign stuff can do that and not be overwhelmed Would kinda suck to go through episode stuff right after campaign you could either do post campaign stuff and get spoiled for no doing episode fast enough Or do episodes and never have time to do post campaign At least this gives us a break to earn the title and get some exotic swords and class items before the real episode stuff takes place If I’m wrong then oh well but at least I can think logically about why they might of done this rather than mob and hate bungie and make unreasonable expectations

Destiny fans are truly in an abusive relationship. They're genuinely gaslit into thinking the next thing is going to be good. While TFS is good, it's just a good general expansion. It just seemed so amazing because everything was dogwater in comparison. It HAD to be good. The fact that Bungie knows what makes there expansions good and only puts the effort when their back is against the wall is shameful. D2 fans are about to go back to the same cycle. You all hyped and praised TFS so much they're going to think they can get away with half-assing anything after, and then once people finally see it's dogwater they will make another good expansion a year after. The cycle continues .
Did we not get the good stuff with final shape ? Destiny is arguably the best it’s been in a long time. The first season is always sparse after a major release. Hopefully they can deliver. Bungie doesn’t really have a choice but to do better and give us good content
Loved your take on the time gating part!!!! This is exactly what I think about all the time, there are sooooo many things to go out and grab. I'm loving the ergo sum grind and I just got the catalyst to work on!
I understand what Cross is going for the time gating. my only point is that there are people doesn't want to grind all the stuff that they will ignore. But then again, time gating is a way that keeps the player base engaged with the game, specially with a 4 month long season.
I actually don't mind that there's a longer break between the ax. It gives us more time to do other things because there's actually a lot to do in the game right now like a lot
Nah, this seasons story has been ass. Its supposed to be a vex story, but we've gotten 2 cutscenes about how in love Saint and Osiris are, and nothing about the vex other than "They're acting quirky guardian." Fucking pride month the season.
The infamous Bungie move of releasing half baked, measly, lackluster content via Episodes that were legit just longer more time gated Seasons (so they have more time to develop more half baked, lackluster content ?) Only to state "It will be bigger and better then ever!!!!"......Next Season... so tune in and be sure to pre order and buy the next Expansion/Season......😉 Bungie is just burning me too many times lately man im done until Destiny 3, sure Final Shape was great and cool but it still is just Seasons on repeat and the same dull weekly story/1-2 Seasonal Activities.... Where is the innovation bro? Like someone needs to release a proper killer to Destiny so Destiny can want to become greater. Legit.
Kinda related, but I feel like Destiny 2 really needs a relaunch of sorts. The entire game just feels so unorganized right now. It's hard to explain but the game kinda feels like a landfill (not implying that it's garbage) where old content is just randomally thrown into a pile instead of being reintergrated in a meaningful way, especially with content that has been impacted by vaulting. Old exotic quests that were once able to be naturally discovered by playing the game are now thrown into disconnected menus, you already start at 1900 power which both feels weird for new players and makes leveling up feel less satisfying, old important story moments are haphazardly retold in brief recaps from more menus. The holes left by vaulting has made the game feel like a mess because Bungie has just left the remnants of vaulted content on the floor. I'm sure some people don't mind this at all but I feel like this is a major turn-off for new players. I hope my point made any sense here.
@@thetachyonhivemind Yeah. Stasis and Strand definitely needs an additional supers. Also more grenade types and at least one more melee for all classes.

We don't need bigger missions. We need a bigger goal to work towards to keep us playing. Look at something like the atlas in PoE. You have the goal of reaching the end of the atlas, all while the game progressively gets harder. This has you seeking out loot so that you can push your build further to its limits. Destiny doesn't have that. You do the campaign and the raid, and maybe some one off missions. And then what? All you do is get loot for the sake of getting loot.
You know people would complain about that too right? Destiny appeals to a much wider audience than PoE - it'd be like comparing PoE to Diablo again. Diablo IS a worse game (in most regards) imo but it appeals to far more people than PoE. Yes Destiny could give you that grind and content just like diablo could but that isn't their goal because thats not their target audience.

Hey, if episodes can get to the quality of the story missions, I'll take it over expansions. the issue is the slow tempo drip fed content. I get that bungie wants us to log in week after week but if thats the case, give a full weeks worth of content not just an hour or two of running errands for a vendor. OR open up all 25 or 49 or whatever number of steps the quest has on day 1 and let me run it start to finish, all steps, in one mega 24 hour stint if i want to. The method by which we get the content doesnt really matter. Episodes are fine and so are seasons. Its the quality, frequency and quantity of the content that matters. This game has a horrible habit of getting a plot moving and then hitting a quest gate that makes me wait a week while a vendor analyzes a sample?? thats basically telling me to play destiny for 2 hours or so, then spend the rest of the week on another game if i want a non-repetitive experience. there needs be something we can do in the meantime to progress the quest that isnt a repeatable, predictable, boring and prematurely flaccid seasonal activity. the first few runs of new seasonal activities are fun, but after that newness wears off it just becomes a chore to log in and do the same thing again and again.
again:i am willing to give bungie benefit of the doubt with this, its a new model and they have shown that feedback does help (Savathuns spire and the coil)
My biggest complaint about episodes is the 3 weeks of nothing new. I enjoy the weekly seasonal model that gave me new objectives each week -- I really REALLY think that episode 1 , act 1 is just so slow narrative wise and that’s why it’s aggravating
What I would say here to the people is, don't judge Episodes with Echoes. It is VERY CLEAR that Echoes was going to be a bit lacking because it comes directly after TFS, and we know the money/hard work went all to TFS. Wait until Act 3, or Revenant and Heresy, and then make an opinion of the format.
The problem is that the episodic model still tells the story in the same exact way seasons did. Do this activity and then go talk to someone, rinse and repeat. It’s very stale. The loot and activities themselves are fine
Forget the seasonal events. As a casual player I still have SO MUCH content to dive into. Still need to do Dual Destiny, get Khvostov, and attempt the raid. Most of us aren’t power grinding the first week and completing all content.
Are people really not happy with episodes? Just like the first season of any previous expansion I dont really judge it harsh since they usually get better as time goes on. I personally really like the episode model as it stands though also I love how much bungie is talking to the community again. We have missed this level of openness since DMG left. I only have 1.5 complaints with this current episode and that is not being able to have all the seasonal weapons at once but at the same time I am not really upset. It gives me an excuse to come back. The other .5 complaint is the season pass being locked behind the acts but its whatever, the only thing I really wish was out is the red death catalyst. I know some people dont like the 3 week break in story but I kinda like it. Being able to take a 3 week break without needing to catch up on anything is really nice, but I know I am in a minority with that. I do have complaints about the game as a whole but compared to previous expansions instead of being an essay its like a couple of paragraphs and to shorten it up: titans as a whole need some love. The glimmer economy is awful legendary shards should have never been taken away, I put 5600 hours into this game so I wouldn't have to farm for basic materials when I need them. The pathfinder system kinda sucks, it should be a grid of X's instead of >'s (if that makes sense). The character model glitch is getting really annoying. The game needs a damage testing/firing range (like the old tribute hall but better and with a boss level target to practice DPS rotations).
Honestly what are people expecting? What insane vision do you have in your head on what we were going to get in episodes? It’s not a new game, it’s D2. If you don’t like Destiny you would think after 10 years some of these people would move the heck on. It would be like going to the same Deli every week, getting the potato salad and then going “god I can’t stand potato salad”. STOP EATING POTATO SALAD IF YOU DONT LIKE POTATO SALAD.
We are talking about people here and people are not known to be intelligent I had several customers who use to say Dunkin donuts had better coffee every day when they bought there coffee and it was legit across the street u could see it from our front window but yet they would come here and say out coffee is worse like people are stupid get use to it
The complaints with seasons vs episodes was never story narrative. It's the fact that we get only one hour of pve content for an entire week. It's impossible to get immersed into a story when u forget the impact of what happened 6 days 23 hours ago each week. I don't mind red border weapons and grinding stuff out. Just give me all the narrative at once to do it at my pace. Then the rest of the season I can spend target grinding the items I want. With timegating story, I find myself only playing an hour a week, getting bored, and moving on to other games the rest of the week, and I end up not grinding all my patterns and weapons because I'm actually having real fun playing other games that don't withhold the actual story from me. It's been a crap model for 4+ years. I love Failsafe but I still find myself hating this season, I'm sorry, "episode", because it's the same one hour per week timegate. Timegate exotic missions, fine. Timegate certain weapons, fine. Do not timegate story and impact.
Maybe unpopular, but shouldn’t the first episode be fully put before we start giving grades? Into the Light was great. TFS is great. Let ‘em cook. Let’s talk after Act 3.
From a storytelling standpoint, y'all gotta understand what's going on here. It's all about the build up. It takes you back to when you heard the narrator say "find out... on the next episode of Dragonball Z". Remember that?? Yeah, me too.
I remember the content and story drought that was post d2 vanilla campaign. How there was nothing to do or look forward to. And i remain grateful for the season formant for giving me stories to come back to week to week
@@Blanktester685 naw personally I didn't run out of things to do, it sucked she the season story ended. But that gave me time to work on dungeons, complete challenges for bright dust, and get the few raid I can do with my friends because of my work schedule.

Cross is apart of the machine at this point. When u hitch your content creator career to a franchise like this, u throw softball complaints like he’s doing and completely lose touch with the casual gamer which this game and his channel, was build from
Makes sense. Why would you go crazy in an episode where youve released an expansion? Fuck a majority of people complaining probably havnt done everything in TFS.
