7:48 i mean we are made in gods image.....in our own lore....it would make sense that this being is related to our own beliefs like other beings in the hierarchy of the solar system
Am I the only one that doesnt like how “Thw Winnower” all of a sudden gets introduced as the new big bad that has been influencing everything even though weve never heard of it

The line from the ViDoc where the Witness said “We’re in need of a God killer” kinda aligns with Cross saying that the Witness was doing everything it’s doing to defy not only the Traveller/Gardener but the Winnower as well
It wasn't. Everyone thought it would be a line of text for those who got the godslayer title just like how in lightfall calus called everyone "shadow" who had that title. But I have godslayer and I didn't hear it either.

Inb4 The Winnower IS The Man in the Wall and they just like to fuck with people in multiple universes. DE, Bungie, you guys have the opportunity to do something real funny. XD

It's interesting how this is all turning out to be similiar to the whole "the God and the Devil made a wager for the souls of mankind" story from Constantine haha

The Winnower actually sounds like Satan. Also, the Traveler reminds me of a pearl in the way that it has different layers that change as you go further in.

Beings like The Gardener & Winnower are most likely formless entities kinda like Azathoth or Yog-Sothoth. We'll never physically meet them. Their avatars or abstracts that being in the game The Traveler & Veil.
maybe transcendence through prismatic will LITERALLY allow us to transcend above other mortal beings and be able to see unfathomable entities such as the gardener or the winnower? kinda like in bloodborne how you find a way to make the amygdalas visible to the naked eye

i think Its like this: The winnower is a fan of extinction; maybe. he convinces races to become one unified entity, turns that entity against the traveler or whoever opposes them, then the singular entity dies, effectively killing off an entire race or people!
In a way we proved the winnowers logic correct, sword logic in its more primal baseline form, not the hive kind. It mentions that only the fittest survive, we killed its "knife" therefore proving ourselves more fit than the witness, and there was nothing else we could have done, someone somewhere always makes its choice.
Yes. But within the Gardener’s principle. We triumphed via complexity. A bomb with diverse pieces would include a sword. _---"A sword can be part of a bomb if the swordstrike is the detonation mechanism," Mara says._

I think when the winnower said, "Oh, no, not my sedimentary necrolite, fossilized in time." I thinks he's referring to the veil. And maybe that the veil had been split in 2 and maybe the veil was an actual pearl.
To be fair when destiny hit a rough patch Myelin dipped and played helldivers for 3 months lol. He really shit on the game too which was quite a bit deserved
People still care about his game? Oh the witness is the big bad and the story is gonna be great for the final shape, and then the dlc came and it was garbage. No way you shill RU-vidrs are eating up this worthless story slop bungie throws your desperate way…
Please bungie give us the option to join the winnower it would be so cool, like imagine turning against everyone and wielding this new power against them

The witness speaks like someone who has complete and total comfort in both its infallible plan and absolute power. It speaks to us like it likes us, because i think it does. An entity foundational to the universe only really does what it wants
Agreed. Humanity is of no consequence to the winnower… the same way we would speak to an ant, it speaks to us. In actuality, the winnower perceives us as less than the aforementioned ants. It’s “jovial” discourse with us, is that of a toy or plaything. It believes it can bend us, break us, or have us do its bidding. Our perceived significance amuses those who perceive us as insignificant.
Cross we know quite a bit about The Nine and their motives. I am a bit rusty on the lore but from what I can remember they're consciousnesses that came into existence because of some gravitational shenanigans between our solar system's celestial bodies. They're made up of dark matter and each one are connected to their own celestial body, including Earth. Their continued existence is reliant upon several factors, one being the life that exists on their respective celestial body. That's the key reason to why The Nine are helping us somewhat. Because if life ceases on their "body" then so does their being from existance. The Nine's motive is just existance, which is why they're also looking into ways to not be reliant on planetary life to enable their existance, because life is fleeting.
To kinda clear up some confusion with the words a lot of objects in english are translated 1 to 1 from greek such as in this case necrolite and necronite , Necro/Νέκρο = an essence of death (not a word per say but a part word used in greek to give meaning to words) , now Nite/Νιτής is like Necro a part word used to to complete the meaning of words and Nite/Νιτής reffers to a substance or object with a rock/crystal form , Lite/Λίτης should be familiar to english speakers because its the same part of the word CataLYST just written diffrently to accomodate the languague , Catalyst = Καταλίτης , Lite/Λίτης reffers to substance or object with a liquid/liquid-like celular form , lore wise do with that what you will but as an aside a lot of Bosses (mainly Vex) and other stuff in Destiny bare greek words as names with deep meaning for example the VoG final boss Atheon/Αθεων means an inanimate object that is Atheist/doesnt believe in gods or the idea of gods.
The powers of The Nine and also Mara Sov's thicc paracausal powers are both seemingly in defiance of Light or Dark, or are able to side-step around Light and Dark. Was it fully established that the "wish" powers of the Ahamkara were also not of Light or Dark?
A little late here, but to anyone who reads Marvel comics, specifically on Galactus. I believe the Winnower is essentially doing what he does when he visits different planets and civilizations. Where the entity automatically takes form of that civilization and also adapts their language. Thats what I’m getting to why he talks like he’s a guardian, like they are one of us.
The Winnower talks about itself like a school of thought. Which is pretty sweet. In my perspective he’s basically provoking the defiance of what we know, and by doing so bringing the Winnower to the hearts and minds of Sol.
Dear GAWD the writing is just AWFUL. Love everything about this game; the music is top tier; best FPS ever made; creative graphics and character design. But the writing. The story. Just beyond bad. Pretentious and forced. Convoluted and arrogant. Impenetrable, even by a guy who spends HOURS doing a compelling "Stewie" imitation trying to make this disaster make sense. "But what the hell all of that means, and I'll be honest, I don't really have an idea of what's being referenced here in concrete terms ..." (10:50) But he'll try.
During the last mission we see the star horse presented in the middle of the room along with a lot of engrams with the nines symbols on them which makes me think maybe we arent decrypting ancient engrams from the golden era but are instead receiving weapons from the nine. They could also be a primordial people such as the leviathans, vex, and worm gods.
The Nine, wanted the Ahamkara to wish themselves into the realm of Sol. To make themselves tangible was their goal, but the decision was made by the Vanguard to hunt the Ahamkara to prevent them from carrying out twisted wishes and posing that threat
I wonder if necrolite is a reference to the Veil. Necro- comes from Greek meaning 'corpse', while the -lite suffix could mean 'diminished or lacking in substance'. Maybe it's saying the Veil is just a fossil, no longer representative of (or containing?) the Winnower entity.
It's a game. It shoots at you? Shoot back. How did a convoluted poorly written story that everyone back in D1 days knew of become this?? Wake up! Find good storytelling elsewhere. Lots of elsewhere!
@@MjcIIIlmfao how does this community want the content? Seasons were praised when they dropped post forsaken now they we don’t like em, DLCs are a mixed bag, and episodes are meh. What are we looking for yall?
I think The Witness thought he was in control and he was the knife. And this passage is basically telling us that we are the new knife, more of a killing machine than the Vex. That’s why it says to keep taking and break rules. As we were given a type of immortality, we also have been at war and wiping out civilizations. We have turned into reapers and the Winnower couldn’t be more ecstatic. Also it’s giving “Although you tried to cheat in our game, you still lost bc your chess piece ended up being my Queen. Checkmate.”😮😮
So we're in a Thanos situation now, where like Savathun we uncover their real motives and it kinda makes sense now. The Witness wanted to defy the Gardener and the Winnower. Savathun probably agreed but disagreed that calcifying the universe was the solution and defied him. I don't know enough about the lore, but if the Gardener and Winnower are two-halves-of-a-whole embodiments of primordial forces, how can you begin to defeat that? The universe we live in would be all kinds of fucked up I would think since we would be missing half the ingredient.
from my understanding the "9" are bungie self inserting themselves into the game world cause they are supposably incorporeal forms of hmm, matter? consciousness? will? hmm well its something from "another dimension" that has found ours and basically thinks hey they look pretty cool and are either trying to find a way to "enter" our dimension but can't cause to do so might cause a galaxy sized disaster of some kind. OR they just wanna play with us like the marbles game from men in black so thats why I say they are bungie self inserting themselves as a sudo "game master" so... TL;DR the 9 are bungie as a in universe game master pulling the strings when they feel like it
Sedimentary necrolite fossilized in time is the Witness. 'Lite' is a suffix denoting a noun as being a lower form of something. Necro, being dead/th, so they are calling him a lower version of death. Sedimentary and fossilized is referring to the pearl motif. They are thanking us for killing the Witness because he was a lesser imitation who misunderstood the goals of the Winnower. They do not like the Witness, regardless of it's use as a pawn/knife. Also, the Winnower using the tone they are using is supposed to entice us. They are attempting to charm Guardians, much like the Devil. They know that the best way to kill a religion is to subvert it's followers and convince them to misrepresent its ideas. Sounds a lot like a certain mission during the campaign, huh? They already know that guardians are willing to accept darkness to achieve their goals; they don't need to destroy the traveler outright, they just need to poison.
I'm at 4:57 currently. The Winnower's choice is survival of the fittest. Only the strongest survive. The Gardener wants all possibilities explored. In Dual Destiny you were given a choice. Violence or peace. If you chose violence then you chose to support the Winnower. If you chose peace, you chose to serve the Gardener. Though you had to serve the Winnower when fighting through all of the enemies up to that point.
Ik i’m a day late but Necro’lytes’ are an Orcish fantasy creature from World of Warcraft that binds and commands souls, could it be The Winnower’s soul was somehow binded to the witness? Like some kinda contract with a devil where The Winnower was trapped until The Witness was dead.
The only thing we know about the nine is the fact that they were getting something from the ahamkars until they were like. Well we can't anymore since the great hunt, so we'll go to humanity
BYF is fantastic, and he gets lore like no one else. But he's committed to the Winnower as not good or evil and I think he's been duped. While the Winnower helped introduce the rules of the universe, that doesn't make his perspective of sword logic and murder any less evil. To take what you require from someone else is stealing. If you kill them to get it, that's murder. Let's not fool ourselves with this "not good or evil" misnomer.
i know this isnt byf’s video, but i just wanted to tell you guys thats “Nacre” is pronounced “nack-er.” not to be mean, but just because he did acknowledge that he didnt know how exactly its pronounced
Sounds likw the winnower is not the bad guy... More like the watcher in marvel comics . And is just excited to see us fight the next big bad bwcause it will have a further reach in time/space rhan "just" the traveller/witness fight

When you are omnipotent why wouldnt you be jovial? Its laughs in power. It laughs because it has no fear. When you are that powerful, everything is a game.
Just thinking out loud. Traveller is the gardener is a ball of light. The Veil is a light and dark sided double egg cup. The Winnower could be the dark ball for the other side. Balance. Yin yang. Maybe when they had their little fallout they split and the egg cup was left and ended up on Neomuna somehow. Thats why we still know nothing about it. Its part to play hasnt came around yet. It could be the essential part of the long game between the gardener and the winnower. You know Bungie love the long game. They can plant a seed and patiently let it grow without anyone paying it any attention for years
I dont think this is the winnower thats talking. I think its the Conducter aka Maya Sunderash. Im just guessing here but the comment about vex radiolaria makes more sense coming from the conducter since that what this whole echoes act is about. Guess we'll find out soon enough!
I don’t think the winnower has a specific dog in the race. Whatever survives to the end of the universe is the winnower’s champion. The framing Light vs dark is dogmatically oppositional to us because of the way it was initially presented.
I'm surprised no one is talking about the personality the winnower has, they seem so casual and nonchalant, almost human in their mannerisms, gives me chaos god vibes the way they talk edit: wtf 7:40 literally exactly what I said 🤣
Interesting thing about the difference between the winnower and the witness in my eyes. The Winnower is this huge entity right? Like its part of the movement of the universe, the death of things, God-like, its kinda talking like it knows that, its phrased like some sort of confidence in comparison to the Witness which is really try to seem God-like. Trying to seem like its otherworldly.
What if the Nine follow under the winnower, and their purpose is to ensure the winnower’s knifes are always sharpened. They so far exist in providing power exotic weapons in exchange for currency, and their involvement with the prophecy dungeon could be argued a push into sharpening us towards the witness and their ultimate downfall
after it’s origins cutscene, i was upset that The Witness was not the opposing God to The Traveler, but honestly if they are able to set up a villain bigger than it like they seemingly are i am down!!!
The winner or the darkness is not a villain. The traveler or the light is Entropy defiance of the natural order of the universe in the grand scheme of things on a universal scale, the light is bad. The darkness is good
@@razesamiel4278The winnower wants all life to be killed down to the very last being at the end of existence. Therefore, the opposition to that is a world where many forms of life can flourish side by side. We fundamentally don't want everything to die, meaning yes, the winnower is the bad guy.
@@Kjf365 the winnower doesnt want that. It sees it as a truth of the universe it and the gardener created. Survival of the fittest. The only reason it interferes in the game, is bc the gardener made the traveler to bend the rules. Therefore the winnower had to do the same bc theyre two parts of the same coin. We arent going to fight it
@Ethanshmeethan00 the way I see it, the winnower is cool with us because we are trucking along towards its final shape as predicted, but once we begin to disprove the final shape theory then it will begin to lose its composure and get mad at us.
OK, just hear me out on this crackpot theory. The Winnower talks about us taking what we want from the enemies, right? it talks about seeing us soon right? It implies it sees us on a regular basis. it implies we interact with it on regular basis. Who do we see, as guardians, on a regular basis that would also say the same things? Rahool. Either he is it or is an agent of the winnower similar to Xur, in that, it can interact/talk with us through him as a proxy.
The nine could just be spectators of the flower game and they just watch earnestly like we watch sports while some of the nine favors particular factions, individuals, or forces of the universe.
You should talk Byf into letting different RU-vidrs write an episode and he reads it like you write. I’d cry at what some of you guys could come up with
also i doubt in d3, we will have options as limited as we have in d2(human , exo , Blueballs). so we have d2 frontiers that'll introduce all new alien species to us which will become playable classes in d3
The winnower isnt going to be a big bad. Its one half of a whole, the other half being the gardener. Its saying in the lore tab its a part of the universe, and that there will always be someone who will try to become its follower. Its basically the devil. You quite literally cant kill the winnower. Thats why savathun is trying to leave the universe, bc light and dark, gardener and winnower, create the rules of the universe and will keep playing their game for eternity, so we must be set free of the game
13:30 I think after his description of necrolite, and the New Vex season, as well the part where the winnower said “no need to cry over spilled radiolaria”, makes sense that maybe the winnower is actually talking about the Vex
Oh then I bet the when we kill the Winnower, we'll find out that the Winnower was just a pawn....of another pawn, and then another. The 9? I dont think Destiny even knows. The whole story is kind of convoluted as if the original writers moved on and the new writers had to piece things together. Then they move on and the next writers had to tie things together. so on and so on.
We have done nothing but prove our existence since our resurrection. We are the ultimate form of the sword logic. Hence the in darkness or in light we do hos will. Because all we have done is slay everything in the game. We don't really do anything else. We are sword logic incarnate. We are the ultimate final shape. Graced into being to change the world by the gardener but our way to change is more on the level of the winnower.
Since we are so powerful in the game. We’ve killed multiple gods and slain thousands upon thousands, are we ourselves not the final shape that the garden game talks about?
Plot twist the traveler is the winnower, that's why the witness wanted to take the pale heart, the witness became the grit inside the pearl that is the traveler which is actually the winnower and this while time we've been playing it's game killing for survival killing entire races ,gods, other guardians, the witness itself the list goes on. We've been knives for the winnowed but yea the witness was the first but it was rogue sense why we were so set on destroying it. All part of the plan, the gardener is the universe and the winnower is the traveler moving throughout space winnowing races finding select "guardians" as it sifts through different civilizations
im sorry, but how does anyone like byf? he sounds so cringey and awful. this is the first time in over 5 years ive heard his lore reading and...wow. genuinely horrible imo.
