How am i supposed to shoot enemies with my trusty hand cannon if im blocked by a turret? I can heal after the fight, after iv been rezzed, when healing wont be necessary lol
So what I gather from this video is that Byf has been a speaker this whole time. His moniker “this is my interpretation”. Once again thank you Speaker Byf 10 years of gold.
You know, i had an epiphany. We have heard the Traveler's voice because every Ghost is a very literal part of the Traveler. Maybe it's trying to figure out what it should or wants to be, by being paired with a Lightbearer and growing with them. An exploration of possibilities all in parallel while still aiding humanity and the rest of the universe in the only way it can. At the very least, the dream that references a voice caught in a throat to me seems like a reference to Ghosts (Light cradled in glass and wire).
I really like this theory. However every ghost has a different voice. We have Nolanbot where Cayde had sundance Osiris had Sagira. Zavala had targe. They all had different voices
@@theNoviceGuardian As someone with D.I.D., sometimes I, apparently, speak in a different voice depending on who's fronting. The Traveler just has D.I.D., obviously.
I don't know how well this translates to canon, but in the D2 reveal event trailer, when we see Zavala get raised for his first time, he makes his way to the refugee camp forming below the Traveler, and we can clearly see _A_ speaker preaching to the masses, wearing the same Speaker mask as in D1/Red War. So either our Speaker was _SUPER_ old for a non-guardian, or the one speaking in that lore entry wasn't the same as ours.
we aren't sure how long people live at the moment I think. We know that during the golden age people could live like 2 or 3 times their base lifespan so like 2-3 hundredish years. we also don't know how long the previous speaker waited to teach the person in question. I also don't know if we know for sure how much time has passed since the city was built either though that might be something I just haven't heard yet.
I wish Bill Nighy would have returned for The Final Shape... Imagine the insight from the mini-Travelers coming from a voice like the one from Forsaken (but with mostly The Speakers voice)
Speakers Sight is my favorite exotic. I LOVE playing the support role and constantly spamming ability. Ohh and also the sound the healing grenade makes when it hits the ground is SOOO SATISFYING 😶🌫️
The only bad thing is that you can heal their body, but not their brain because I swear that as soon as there is a healing turret down, people go full monkey mode and bumrush the nearest enemy and die. I always say: “I can heal you but I can’t heal stupidity”
Ergo Sum would be a good pairing of weapons to listen to the Traveler like Nezarecs whisper My warlocks Speaker Sight build makes use of scarlet semblance as a shader to make my warlock look kinda like Dante from Dante’s Inferno Xbox game based on the book of the same name.
Hours I've wandered the Pale Heart, Being told that I am Chosen by my sidearm. However like my mask, it does not give me the sight to see what must be heard.
You and Martin really picked the best tracks for this video; the Hope and its Excerpts, Eighth, Tranquility. As always, great synopsis and fantastic scoring.
Honestly kind of hoped we would have gotten something similar to lightfall, when we were waiting for root to drop and we could decipher the whispers by wearing things tied to nezarec. Would have been cool to have heard something while wearing the speakers helm, probably not voice lines ofcourse but maybe wave lengths/noises that could be in one way or another deciphered to contain words? So that we dont put a voice to the traveler but still get to hear words from it, maybe we get whale noises like it does but layered in on the sound is a message, it would be a WILDLY convoluted way to send a message, and most people would complain that they put story beats in a sound thats undecipherable without looking at the wave itself but it would be cool eitherway.
Not sure if this is grasping at straws, but I'd like to think part of the first dream might be a small reference to Riis? I remembered one of Variks' idle lines on Europa mentions how Eliksni buildings were tall enough to reach a 'forest green sky'. A part of me would like to think Dreams 1-5 are the Traveler sharing its fondest memories of the places it touched; because by Dream 6 onward, the narrator says "NOW I dream only omens" , implying that everything before may not have been prophetic warnings. They also don't come to the narrator in any particular order either, and it's only when they wake up do the dreams feel like an organized sequence that need to be understood in a specific order, like a timeline. Again, just rambling my own thoughts but thanks for another banger vid! I came to really appreciate the lore more thanks to you, they've made late night studying bearable
Ooh i like that. Riis gets mentioned a few times in the pale heart. Micah says she'd love to have seen it. So they definitely havent forgotten about it. Maybe if we ever leave sol, we'll go back to torobatl and riis. What remains of them anyways
The Speaker is a strange character. According to Alpha Testers of D1, Joseph Staten envisioned the Speaker as a secret bad guy, like a Covenant-style Prophet of Truth, with Osiris basically being the Arbiter. This story was removed and in Destiny 1 final release, the Speaker was told to be a Guardian. A Warlock, in fact. In D1 you can see a Ghost by his side at all times. In D2 this was retconned and he was just a random Lightless dude with a “ghost friend” he also basically revealed that the Cult of Osiris’s skepticism of him was not misplaced: “Ghaul…I Speak for the Traveler…I never said it spoke to me.” Now this has been retconned too, and it turns out the Speaker did indeed have the Speaker talk to him, it was just due to his mask and still very rarely. I think Misraaks should become the New Speaker. The Traveler is literally giving him clearer visions with no special mask needed. This could solidify the alliance between House of Light and Guardians, and to make him a more messianic figure among Eliksni, i think he should gain Neomuna Quicksilver Nanite Augmentations. A literal Tech-Priest. A unifying force for Eliksni and Humanity.
@@GhostRydr1172 it was said previous speakers were guardians and some were once warlocks. Our speaker however was never really confirmed to be a guardian during D1
@masterofthelyokianmonsters2886 no previous Speaker has ever been confirmed to be a Lightbearer AFAIK. They're special individuals that could hear the Traveler. Ghosts flock to them as part of that connection, but that doesn't mean they were all Lightbearers.
I love some of the recent final shape content! you said prophecy in this video a lot and that reminded me of something. Is there a connection between the Prophecy Dungeon and the Final Shape? If there is, I would love to see a video on it!
Finally get the mask to drop and the first thing we hear from the traveler -- "So we've been trying to reach you about your sparrows extended warranty..."
Hey Byf! I've been a fan for about a year now. I was wondering if you've been noticing the Extracted Data Queries in the Enigma Protocol? I believe there might be lore behind each one, but I'm confident you'd be able to put it together. Keep up the work!
The narrator is not the Speaker, it is Savathun; read the second to last sentence and you'll notice a certain calling card in it. It can only be viewed in-game since other sites correct grammatical errors.
@@TheCBoysDotCom There's a usage of that weird double-spaced typo that appears from time to time in lore entries and the usage of such is associated with Savathun even more so now given that it also appeared in Martian Missives, a lorebook that was written BY Savathun, so I'm just putting two and two together.
I completed the campaign solo on Legend early in the morning, after the initial server issues at launch were resolved, and choosing Speaker's Sight as my Exotic reward... it felt like a big moment.
I interpreted the spears motif as a defensive version of sword logic. Be surround by spears or using one is a defense and offensive weapon. Maybe spears being brought up are represented of guardian's being spears. Weapons of both protect and attack. Idk
Perhaps Clovis' dream, in a way, shows that the traveler thinks exos are an abomination, as the traveler values life so much and exos could be considered false life
I think it would be interesting if the current, child-like entity we know as the Traveller would be revealed to be like a Steven Universe situation, where the Gardener sacrificed themselves to give birth to a new embodiment of Light, in dedication to their philosophy of letting people grow and seek their own fate; the Gardener made a new entity to take it's place, or perhaps erased their own memories, to give themselves a chance to make their own future independent of the burden from knowing the outcome of the Flower Game and the conflict it caused
Lore gets confusing with the gardener/winnower. The traveler is more likely the light version of the knife, except a giant, literal seed of life. Theres also some entries that seem to imply the Gardener IS the winnower. Like a dual personality ying/yang.
my guardian can hear the traveler. with out the helmet. I been asking other players if they are hearing it nobody else I asked could hear it. sometimes it gets so loud that it is unbelievable that nobody is hearing the noise. my guardian is actually a speaker then.
just thought of this, but the traveller merging with the darkness is bringing it back to its former self when it was connected to the veil. I don't know if it fully remembers everything, but its interesting to see those lost memories.
Correct me if im wrong.... but is the speaker the only time in the game we actually see the destiny logo? Its on his robes in those old cutscenes but i dont know if ive ever actually seen it anywhere else in game
So, Clovis Bray of all people had the chance to be The Speaker, but it rejected that by essentially being savage towards the wolf cubs. Also, if Destiny Universe had being real, Byf would definitely be chosen as a Speaker by the Traveller.
On the last dream, about a heart in a ribcage, unable to speak? I have a theory. Bungie, as some of us may remember, long ago, would feature D1 in 2014, with a short animatic. It featured the trio of astronauts, that have become very familiar to us now, and a pale, glowing woman, with long, flowing hair, and a dress as pale as she. What if, this is what the Gardner, looks like? Maybe we will meet such a figure in the future. If the Traveler is something of rather a shell, or domain in which she lives, perhaps whatever damage her vessel suffered, in the Collapse, and recently in Final Shape, has greatly lessened her means to speak to people clearly. Perhaps the Guardians, and even those lightless, like Osiris, she would be able to commune with. But with recent events, and the Collapse, she cannot. Perhaps she is sending us visions to help us. Maybe after the Traveler is healed, the Garnder may be able to communicate clearly with us again. But I don't see her healing any time soon.
I always believe that the Speaker that we meet in Vanilla D1 and who died in the Red War was one of the three astronauts on mars on the Ares One mission. Particularly Jacob Hardy.
that day break line witht he constilations disapearing is talking about how we the guardians wont get to see daybreak (a galaxy at peace) and that when daybreak does come there wont be any of us left cause thats our part to play in the story
So with us haveing the travellers perspective with ergo sum i immediately knew it was the traveller showing us how it perceives us and how the wolf can be safe but once doubt and death has happened she is unsure of anything but the rest is like a dream of a vison
A thought. In the lore about the ghosts being created it talks about giving parts of itself up…that light is inside guardians…could the “rib cage” be the bodies of guardians
it'd be really cool if like Nezarecs sin it changed the strange wails you can hear the traveler make in parts of the story and finishing overthrow parts but I guess nezarecs sin is a pretty special case anyway
I thought a lot about this and i came to the conclusion that the dreams described in the helmets lore is our history: It starts with the Traveler, "a star hung low in the sky"... "a weary wolf with kind eyes , a mother with pups behind her". As the days pass, "I dream of sunset, over and over", humanity faces the Dark Age. But we survive and wake with peace and the rising Sun. Then he dreams of other speakers, but as every one of them fall and he is the last one he dreams of complete ruin. The Traveler tried telling him the future, but couldn't, because it wasn't sure which side would win, The Light or The Dark. "It is nothing but smoke." (And it turns out neither, because our guardian transcends as the line between Light and Dark cease to exist). Then he dreams of the Tree of Silver Wings getting changed with darkness, and it's last light leaves drawing ruin into the river after it washes them away. And in the end the Traveler, a silent god, trapped inside a spherical shape without any other way of communicating with us. The Speaker wakes and doesn't understand the dreams "but they array themselves in an orderly fashion" as our history. Past, present and unclear future.
Its a shame that there arent places where we can actually hear the Traveler, much like we could hear Nez while wearing/using armor/weapons related to Nez. That would be amazing even if it were just in a few places id be ok with that.
I read the dream of spears and immediately thought of the guardian tenant’s: devotion, bravery, sacrifice, and death. Though the order seems jumbled (Now Bravery, Devotion, Sacrifice and Death) I’m not quite sure if that carries its own meaning, the speaker simply recalled them in that order, or if the traveler is just being cryptic as per usual? -Boar hunting and defense is very easily interpreted as both evoke images of bravery: the danger that comes with spear hunting a boar and the resolve to hold in a line of spears against an enemy. -Creativity and fire were harder to pin down but it certainly feels as though they represent devotion: fire is commonly regarded in myths to be a gift from a higher being and as a reason to have faith, and as an artist I know firsthand the kind of devotion it takes to create something that you truly feel is great. -Sacrifice and martyrdom require practically no interpretation, Sacrifice is sacrifice and martyrdom almost universally comes in the form of death. However despite the simplicity of its correlation I think the use of the word martyrdom here is a key factor to this interpretation of the dream, as an act of purposeful martyrdom perfectly encapsulates the entire guardian creed, devotion to your cause gives you the bravery needed to make sacrifices which leads you to the ultimate act of martyrdom: death. Taking all of this into account I believe that the dream of spears is meant to refer to us guardians as the spears of the traveler, a theory that I feel holds more water if Byf is correct and these are the dreams of the D1 speaker. Speaking of Byf, if his interpretation of the dream of spears ( 18:43 ) is correct and this is a rebuttal to Toland, the idea that when the traveler refers to spears it’s talking about us guardians puts new meaning and intensity behind that rebuttal.
Maybe the star representing the speaker is there at twilight because the Speaker was there when we faced what was our greatest enemy at the time, Gaul and his suppressive power over the traveler. It’s not there at sunrise because the Speaker was dead by the time the conflict was over.
So there are five(I may be wrong, please correct me) exotics with connections to the traveler: Traveler's Chosen Hawkmoon Lumina Ergo Sum Speaker's Sight 4 of these are class agnostic, just as the fusion rifle from Nezerac's season which allowed all players who equipped it to hear Nezerac's voice, along with Nezerac's Whisper which has the same effect. We have heard disciples of the darkness and even The Winnower itself, maybe we will hear the traveler with the next Act of the season.
I'm just hoping they spend the foreseeable future explaining what the traveller and the veil are to their respective gardener/winnower. Considering the last 10 years has been about how the real villain was the witness and it's misuse of darkness, I feel like making the winnower the de facto new enemy is cheap, and a little lazy.
Again, Bungie misses the boat to do that one extra thing to make things so much cooler. When the traveler wails, we should hear it differently while wearing the mask. Just like hazardous propulsion should have had some Failsafe audio clips attached to it.
great job with all these lore videos. i hav e also a theory for you and everyone else. a few days ago i was watching a video about the planets being swallowed by the darkness. and in 1 of your video's you where saying that data from rasputin was stolen. the data had opera and stuff in it. i think that the vex that are being let by this conductor is the same vex that stole that data from rasputin. maybe a small bit of rasputin is in this vex now and this vex could control surtain weapons that rasputin used. this is only a theory but it is one of the many things that could happen.
I always imagined the collapse was decades or hundreds of years ago. If the speaker was alive just after the collapse, then surely it's more recent than I thought because I don't think the speaker was a guardian. Unless this lore tab was a different speaker
Really off topic from the video but in the new strike for final shape, after the first room with the statue, when you see the hive ships flying overhead . On the giant hand a figure appears on it then disappears
It's crazy, you'd think out of all the classes, it would be a Warlock, not a Hunter like Micha-10, that could commune with the Traveler. It has me wondering though, will we ever really meet the supposed entity of the Traveler? The pale, glowing woman, supposedly the Gardner. We can now best tell that the Traveler does not offer answers, because the way of the Light, is for it to give us the freedom to choose our own fate. While the Winnower wishes to prove its simple logic, in survival of the fittest: that the strongest will always choose violence and chaos to sharpen themselves and the world, due to fear of annihilation. Even if she didn't say anything, but simply appeared before us to show us visons and her actions, it would be mind-blowing. I can't but think we will peel back the mysteries and nature of the Gardner and Winnower in the future.
"Any scholar can understand the theory, but only those who hear the music can make the Light sing." - Sunsinger's bond. Sunsingers can hear that music without the need for a mask and we can even make the Light sing 🤷
The dream about being in the cage make me think its the traveler looking at itself. Its suck as a sheild when it wants to become more. It wants to be free to soar the cloud like a bird. I think it truly wants to become us in a sense. Free from all the burdens and able to make our own fate. Go were we want and become anything.
The traveler see itself as no god but a being just like us. So maybe the dreams are the dreams of the traveler itself. Witnessing it through its eyes in a sense.
