Destiny 2 - Why Bungie Doesn't Care

Destiny 2. Bungie doesn't care about quality content. Content Problems can be solved by User Created Content through either Mods or a Forge mode. Mods and Forge modes/custom map editors have allowed plenty of players and fans to create long lasting and great content that lengthened the life of a particular game. Halo Custom Games, Call of Duty Custom Zombies, Skyrim and Fallout Mods. The possibilities are endless with custom, user created content. This is how Destiny 2 and Bungie can solve their repetitive and boring content problem.

Hey Bungie. Just give us the tools to make content for Destiny. There’s so much imagination and creativity amongst the playerbase who aren’t scared of “over delivery.” Plus, the best part for you, is we’ll make the content to keep the playerbase happy for FREE. No need to pay us. Just give us some Forge or Mod tools and we’ll do the oh so difficult task of giving players the experiences they want from Destiny.

But how will Bungie justify their prices and the amount of content they put out if an endless amount of free content is being made from players? They would never do this because they can't find a way to charge for this. Unless they lock assets that could be used behind an expansion. I don't believe Bungie will ever do something like community made content on a larger scale if it can't be monetized. Case and point, they are taking community art work for weapon skins that can be sold in their cash shop. That stuff can be monetized, not content made in their own forge.

How about restoration and improvements to the old tower where you can add interactive screens that play cutscenes and have leader boards on high ranking players in PvP and including an guardian walk of fame honoring legendary players and an actual statue of Cayde that the community was asking for instead of an mediocre plaque by Zavala. And an memorial of players who passed away in recent years there I fixed the tower right there.

I definitely agree that destiny was the WoW for the modern Era. As much as I love Destiny it feels like they're falling into a lot of the sane pitfalls blizzard did with WoW at a more accelerated pace. Seasonal artifacts are basically just legion artifacts, azerite power and conduits. My only hope is that Bungie can learn from their mistakes and mistakes of other games sooner rather than later.

A Bungie dev admitted not to long ago that when it comes to Destiny 2 don't expect anything that they're making quantity content and not quality content because there's no point in doing so since players would buy regardless. They can make SRL for example RN but why spend the money on making that gamemode when they can easily release a season with reskined weapons with a decent story.

@valzicplayz3845 Год назад
@laetafinis8438 you mean quantity and quantity. Which a Bungie Dev said they're doing. If you mean repeating horde mode ( 9,000 ), reskin weapons and basically copying what made a weapon unique rather it be exotic or a legendary exclusive to a Raid/dungeon just to find out a weapon exactly like it is gonna be in the season pass making the grind pointless, is quality content you are insanely high. Bungie got lucky with Destiny bc ppl were patient and more forgiving, but make another yr 1 of Destiny that flops Destiny will die. Look at Anthem it died day 1, Division 1, and then 2 that is on life support. The reason why there are no games like Destiny is bc they all fail and bc Destiny is just simple and easy to get into.

@@valzicplayz3845 so you're saying that destiny has no quality? did you miss my point entirely? quantity cant be anything without quality, so the fact that destiny's doing so good means that there must be enough quality to compensate, at least. also reskins arent the end of the world. work is work, it takes work and it takes money and it takes resources and it takes time. making a completely new unique weapon, unique model, unique functionality, for 23 weapons per season, would take SO MUCH WORK. its currently unachievable for the destiny team to get that, with the rescources, money, work, and time that are available to them. stop being spoiled little brats, unless you want bungie to remove seasons entirely.

I constantly fight the temptation to go back and buy the DLC I've missed. I constantly look for a new game to play that even remotely scratches my Destiny itch. It might sound silly to say a developer or game has broken my heart, but it truly saddens me and frustrates me to no end what Bungie has done to Destiny 2. I don’t think Bungie is interested in the slightest in improving destiny. They won’t bring back SRL and it’s taken 10 years for an in game lfg system; there’s never going to be forge mode. It’s obvious their plan is to abandon destiny development after final shape and move on to their other games. The past few expansions have been extremely underwhelming, the past few seasons are completely filled with copy pasted areas/enemies, crucible is on its last legs, and the bugs are out of control. There’s no way there’s more than five people working on the current version of the game. We already know that the lightfall weapons are reskins and I think that’s emblematic of the expansion as a whole. I wouldn’t be surprised if neomuna is a reskin of the last city areas or titan.

I don’t think Bungie even likes Destiny anymore. They always complain about it like a frustrated marriage. Since D1. It caused them nothing but grief and headache. They lost a lot of talent after D1. They couldn’t even figure out what they wanted the game to be. JJ could barely explain what he wanted to JStaten when criticizing the original draft. They’re barely figuring it out now. After they broke their partnership with Activision, they had to continue with Destiny. They had no other choice. Now that they are owned by Sony, they’re chasing other game concepts. The new Marathon game is an extraction shooter. No story needed. No cutscenes. No complex scripting. Just a free for all like Tarkov but with Destiny-style fashion microtransactions. You know why they with split Activision? They claimed to make Activision $1 billion in revenue from Eververse alone. They wanted that money for themselves. They were going to publish pay2win mobile games in China, where microtransactions are popular p2w is culturally accepted. That dream fell apart when the CCP waged war on gaming, calling it “poison for the soul”. So they went with Sony. Their new games all involve concepts for reliance on microtransactions. Maybe not pay2win, but they’re chasing that “free to play” simple games type of market.

Bungie needs to fix something fast or I have a feeling people that love this game will mark Destiny 2 as a lost cause, because other than coming back for mediocre story segments each week I can’t be bothered to play the game. Of course this is just how I feel about the game as of right now, and I still love the game but I hate to see it in this state, it hurts the player inside of me who was just starting to play Destiny in Taken King and looked at it with same awe as something like Skyrim. It may just be me growing older and not feeling same about game like Destiny but I hope Destiny can thrive past that and get their old mindset back because that is what Bungie needs, they may be making plenty of money but they are losing the very people that started with this game and want to see it thrive not die.

Companies and Developers that care about their games have no problem selling it to an audience. But some companies are just really good at creating addicting FOMO designed games. Bungie cares more about social issues than actually making a quality video game. And while social issues are very important, a gaming company should... I actually think it's an insanely optimistic, if not delusional, take that Bungie can fix their problems and make Destiny the game we've always wanted it to be (and that the IP deserves). I see absolutely no way how Destiny can get to that point without, at best, getting rid of those in positions of power at Bungie and replacing them with people who're actually competent and care about creating a great product, and at worse having the IP of Destiny and the game go to another developer entirely.

On one hand I agree and think that the community should get more say in custom content, on another, I can view this as an artist who has worked tiredly on a painting, only for a random dude to walk in and alter it/modify it, taking away from the original image. I don't think a custom mode is needed, but a way for people to make things, kind of like TF2, a place where we can vote on things and choose from community content that Bungie could add into the game, this would make map creation a lot less stressful and more community driven. PvP is also not the main focus of Destiny, so having it be used for PvE would probably take away from the tone of the game and make it look too goofy and can ruin the image of some of the major bosses and enemies, they aren't trying to be a Fortnite, and I understand that. If I wanted to play a game with creative and not have any distinctive meaning, I will go play Minecraft or Gmod, games meant to be sandboxes and meant to have full creativity and control, Destiny is not one of those games in my opinion, everything must be in the perfect pattern, even if it will never truly be perfect. As much as I would love for PvP to actually be good, that's not what makes Destiny, Destiny.

After being a Quake and Half-Life player for years, I couldn't quite see why my friends were all so taken by Destiny originally, the complete lack of LAN play, modifications of any kind what so ever, dedicated servers, you name it, it all seemed way behind the times in my eyes, but since I'm here I obviously got sucked in a have spend several thousand hours enjoying what the franchise does have to offer that can be found nowhere else. Its a difficult subject for sure, but the crucible map side of things particularly, could really benefit from user created maps. This is already a game with a huge number of passionate community contributors, why not allow this to be one of the ways players can contribute? The rest of the game [including private matches] could benefit hugely from user selected game modifiers [ala halo], rather than modifiers being locked to to one strike a week for the nightfall with only tiers of selectability rather than customizability. Again, its a tough subject because it only takes reading bungies TWAB notes on consolidating PVP playlists to understand more custom games and playing in premade fire teams, would cater to long term players immensely; but hurt matchmade playlist populations and hurt the new player experience [dont get me started on how that 'cater to new players' mentality completely fucked over thr Destiny community for the whole first year of D2]

it would not be financially benificial for bungie to give the sunset expansions away for free. and even if they did it, it would slow the updates of the main experience down considerably, because theyd have to keep up with bugfixes etc. tldr; reintroducing sunset content is high cost/high risk, low reward.

Back in my High School, my Teacher in Graphic Design told me about brainstorming multiple things but the one thing he told me was always about choosing our Audience. I think we, (ones who take classes for art and gaming), have the same teachings in that field but now with "Modern Audiences," we can't tell if they'll like the games/movies/tv shows because they'll keep changing their minds (example being Chris Redfield's redesign or Batgirl in Gotham Knights about being crippled). Also since studios are spending hundreds of millions of dollars in a short amount of time doesn't give actors, screenwriters, and directors time for cool downs, (basically taking a break), so games needs micro-transactions and movies need better Trailers to gaslight us. Many people are saying that Modern Audiences are a curse but in reality, making entertainment should be just that and with writing, it could become a marvel (not the studio).

If you've loaded up a round of Team Scorched, stood near a wall and shot it at point blank, you'd have noticed you didn't die from the scorch shot, but the wall on the other side of the alley. Why haven't we had a dungeon that made use of this? Literal rocket jumping dungeon. Or even better, more open pvp maps for Team Scorched that take advantage of this feature? I assumed this was because I was playing the free version, so of course if I unlock the dlc, it should fill in those holes i was feeling in the game, right? I waited for a sale and then bought all the available dlc for me and my brother, to really try to play the game as it is meant to be played and have someone to play it with. Coming up on a year of playing this game more than any other game in my library, having spent more on this game than any other game in my library, and I am sad to say I'm feeling more and more regret than satisfaction with the time and money I've put into this game. Parts of the game are fun, but it still feels like such a hollow game, and has huge parts of it that just feel like a trainwreck. I don't know what is going on at bungie, but I really hope they can fix their issues and start making this game better. I won't be spending anymore money on it in the meantime.
