I love imagining invading the star system of an alien civilization, and they nickname us as "Space [insert wild species from their home planet]" if we resemble that species.
Humans, Exos, and the Awoken: Light Vex: near unbridled computational capability Hive: Darkness Fallen: incredible resourcefulness and undying tenacity Taken: army that transcends space-time and could very well have a relation to dark matter Cabal: gun
Fun fact: in D1’s grimoire cards there’s instances where a Cabal was recounting a report from a battle with a fireteam where they talked about our usage of the light and the potential to harness it for themselves. They also took note of how we dance in celebration :)

Cumplimos nuestro elevado deber. Leales sin vacilar. Quemador celeste V/A/SI
Considering the Cabal are balsy enough to crash a ship into the Dreadnaught's hull, attach explosives to its core and risk blowing up the whole system in return for their dead Primus is just astonishing. #SandTurtlesHaveNoFuckingChill
My favorite part about the Cabal is how they were always the greatest immediate threat to the City. The Fallen were never strong enough to take it, the Vex don't care and the Hive are kept away by the Traveler's Light. But the Cabal? All they needed was an excuse.
Honestly, up until very recently this holds up pretty well. Hell, Ghaul almost *DID* take the city. Again, it's only in the very recent past and *now* that the Cabal lack the strength to assault the City anymore and the Hive have taken up the mantle of "biggest threat at this very moment."
Actually, the fallen did pose a very large threat to the city, and came close to taking it during the battle of twilight gap. The only reason they didn't was because of Shaxx's team deciding to push when all seemed lost. Also, Ghaul did take the city, temporarily, but only because The Nine took out our satellites, so the attack was completely by surprise.
I'd agree that they were the greatest threat, after the hive were destroyed in the dark below, crota was not that long away from being resurrected and stomping on the city, but luckily 2 knights a millennia ago got into a stalemate and crota lost enough tithe from that to be weak enough to beat the first time
How are we not dead yet. The cabal think the only effective way to kill guardians is with orbital bombardment so why not destroy earth. Im sure the travelar can take the hit and survive.
its pretty crazy how spot on a lot of themes are with destiny :P The last array, despite being such a minor fight, is probably one of the most memorable to me due to when you do it and the ambiance overall
Probably my favorite enemy to fight. There is no surrender, there is no retreat. Only press on, dig in, and make the enemy suffer for every inch of land they try to claim back. Cabal are masters of siege warfare; the City got off easy.
if they wanted to they could have completely destroyed the city and whats left of humanity if ghaul wasn't so fixated on capturing the traveler and getting knowledge
Considering how Gary comes and invades the city, blows up the tower, destroys our exotics, kicks a titan around like a dog, captures the traveler, and now has probably destroyed the entire city....when I look back at this moment when we first encountered the cabal, I realize we fucked with the wrong empire
The Cabal destroy planets and moons just for being in their way of conquest. I don't think the Covenant want to fuck with that and I sure as hell think Legionaries have the advantage over Grunts.
*Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.*
"800 pounds, highly militarized. They blow up planets and moons just for getting in their way. Just to let you know what we're dealing with." - Ghost, Exclusion Zone mission
Ya wanna know why the cabal are really badasses? Remember D1’s good ol Valus Ta’aurc strike? Remember how in that nightfall, if you weren’t hiding in the cheese spot, you weren’t gonna make it? Yea. A force so powerful, you CANNOT face it head-on. That’s the cabal.
I love the Cabal cause they don't want any part of this Darkness nonsense, and, if the opening mission of Taken King is any indication, they're not COMPLETELY opposed to the idea of allying with Guardians when necessary. I'm hoping we'll be getting a Cabal focused expansion sooner rather than later.
+smnoy23 I'd love to know what the story is with the Psions. I mean, they're clearly not the same species as regular Cabal. Were they conquered and enslaved or did they willingly join with the empire? I'd also love to know why Oryx went straight for the Cabal when he arrived in the system. With so many of his own minions ripe for the taking (pardon the pun), it's interesting that he'd go straight for such a powerful force.
Probably because he figured that the Hive would worship him, the Fallen were too divided and weak to pose a significant threat (especially if Skolas is imprisoned/dead by that point), and the Vex are doing whatever the hell it is they do on Venus and Mercury. The Cabal is probably the only alien race that Oryx viewed as a threat, so neutralizing them probably took priority.
Don't let this distract you from the fact that they were originally depicted as 10+ foot tall wielding bayonet rifles along with operating vehicles the size of buildings. Oh wait this theme only makes it nightmares.
with how the cabal are a militarized enemy im not surprised at what ghaul did in the start of destiny 2. after oryx was eliminated as a threat ghaul took his chance. ghaul makes a good leader because he didnt just use his strenth but his wisdom. he: 1: waited until the most powerful being, oryx, was eliminated 2: waited till the guardians let their guard down 3: attacked an unsuspecting city of guardians 4: took/caged the guardians source of power leaving the guardians vurnerable 5: asserted dominance thats some military stategist logic level of thinking there.
Man. I miss hearing this music during big fights against Cabal bosses. It still gets stuck in my head sometimes, even though this is he first time I've listened to it since D2 came out.
That moment you get punched so hard you are erased from existence and teleport to the opposite side of the map (yes, that did happen in PoE... twice in a row, still have no idea what went wrong).
One of the scariest things about Cabal is their actual ammo. It’s honestly horrifying. Every one of their guns shoots armour piercing micro-missiles, which detonate with shrapnel inside the target. Meaning that if you get shot by one, whether you’re a Guardian or not, it’s going into your flesh, and exploding inside of you, throwing sharp metal deep into every part of the wound. Considering the initial wound was made by an armour piercing micro-missile, the shrapnel is easily getting deep enough to hit vital organs. One shot would kill you, and even if it barely hit you on somewhere safe like an arm, you’d almost certainly go into shock from the pain. Not to mention how septic a wound that full of shrapnel would become if you somehow escaped. The fact that we can even stand after taking a shot is a testament to Guardians’ armour and innate strength.
That one guy at bungie was probably like: Ok hear me out, what if we take rhinos, put them in space and add a some roman empire to the mix and thats how the cabal were made
Last guardian standing Running to cover Phalanx gets in way Phalanx swings arm like 20 ton truck Goes flying Dies *INTENSE BREATHING IN* "BBBOOOOOOOOOOIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!"
This music.. I picture a huge force of cabal marching headlong into a massive battle with the vex. Psion loosing blasts of arc light , and collosi with their heavy slug throwers spinning rapidly spitting a maelstrom of fiery hell upon the vex forces. Another cabal harvester appears and valus ta aurc drops down as a wave of vex preaetorians and hydra arrive on sight to back up the struggling vex troops
I still remember the first time I fought the Cabal. I was four levels behind every single enemy, and an army of them was headed right for me... It was one of the most intense gaming experiences I've ever had.
Geez, considering that the Cabal is heavily based off the Roman military culture in many aspects down to unit names, that I would imagine If Rome existed within a modernized/futuristic setting, this would be their military theme.
nearly a decade later, and several expansions - even into Lightfall Destiny hasn't done a motif that symbolizes the sheer crushing dominant force of the Cabal better than this one. We are Cabal. We eat the mountains. We drink the seas.
Ever since I got Heir Apparent in the Guardian Games, this plays in my head whenever I rev it up and mow down everything in my path. The perfect weapon for an unstoppable Titan like me.
When the last Cabal in the darkness zone is a Phalanx that instakills you with their shield bash thus making you have to start the darkness zone from the beginning again
The Cabal are Bungie’s “what if”. In Halo, the elites were big and the grunts were small. Here in Destiny the canal are like big grunts and the psions are small elites.
Probably because they exile their legions until they win like Rome, and only conquer slowly like Rome, but have little to no regard for losses like Russia
[Commander Zavala:] Whether we wanted it or not, we’ve stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let’s get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta’aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. +Follower of Revan And the Temple of the Sith see thats the thing they are not evil does that mean u cud team up with them if they saw u as a valuble fighter and asset
The year is 2023, Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion is out and primary antagonist is Cabal. To THIS DAY, from just how good this theme is, that low brass hook is STILL used as the underlying call of the Cabal battle music. What a fantastic piece of music.
