I know many reptile store that keep free roam tokays to clean up escape insects

Tokays are popular for all round bug control as most lizards only do ground to mid ground or outer walls. If you have a few they will make mating noises at night though but other than that they are fun to watch.

Spraying roaches ftom a spray bottle mix of water and some dish detergent works excellent as it suffocates them. Don't squish.. flush down toilet . .

Those get big and would be crapping all over your apartment.

The minks probably have more endurance I'd guess, since they're mammals, but the sprint speed of the monitor is incredible.

@@johngreco7171 Unless it's really hot; they have polar opposite endurance factors for hot and cold. If it's too hot, the mink wear out REAL quick.

he's still a bit too small to target birds. Give him a bit more time, and letting him around such birds will become really risky

He just happened to be focused on the task at hand, which was what he knew and was trained to do. At his size he could easily take on things like sparrows, doves, finches, parakeets- even cockatiels. The issue of catching them is a relatively small problem in such a confined space.

Did you know rats sometimes eat each other and mice? Maybe Joseph wants to take pest control to wild new places by using a lizard, imagine him being crazy enough to use rats next LOL. They're pretty smart. He'll selectively breed the most efficient rats until a distinct breed emerges, then he'll produce enough to have his own rat army! Will rat warfare finally satisfy him?

Killing pests with animals and not chemical poisons is a lot better for nature.

I'd say raptor likes hunting the same way a cat likes hunting, for the entertainment, thrill, and inherent prey drive. Monitors are definitely smart enough to enjoy hunting not only for the resultant food.

Well, the fact that most/all of it's survival needs are being met is a big factor in regards to the video. So, with repetition and more experience, it is possible that it will recognize this as a form of exercise and a chance to actively hone it's prey drive

Bats are not bad creatures by any means, and in fact are themselves responsible for a huge portion of insect control. And as for the bubonic plague, it was allegedly caused by parasites that probably were carried by rats and mice, but not by the rodents themselves. That said, rats and mice can certainly be destructive and overwhelming pests to any home, farm, feedhouse, etc. They reproduce exponentially and drastically increase the risk of disease through their waste, dander, and sheddings. Not to mention they eat from and ruin food supplies and destroy walls, flooring, and other structures. Put simply, rodents are a great threat if left unchecked in a domestic setting.

@R.J.J- El ganador it is amazing mate, Joseph is brilliant with animals, his dogs are as good as any I've seen, I used to go ratting with ferrets and dogs and its fun , I can't believe how quick raptor is and expect he'll move on to rats when he gets bigger.

@@The_F_In_Life I agreee about chances of desease, I imagine the Raptor is pretty resilient, given they do this in the wild, thankfully Joseph doesn't do any catches where poisons have knowingly been used, so at least the risk is minimal for harm.

@Bob 1 The animals he feeds to his dogs/mink are frozen for a period of time to kill parasites and such. Eating fresh is not ideal - but I don't know the disease/parasite transfer of mammal to reptile.

Monitor lizards/sand goannas have iron stomachs, they eat carrion and are the trash cans of the animal world. I’m sure they aren’t too worried

Mink Reflexes??? Better--on an order of magnitude! Unless I'm mistaken, they're far faster in the open field than a mink, and can climb. In a ratting melee situation with dogs, raptor with his quickness coupled with his climbing ability will be superior to a terrier much of the time, I predict, like with stumps, trees, and woodpiles. He'll be able to wait with the dogs for someone else to flush them, or he'll be able to flush them from inside the holes himself--as such, Rapto's gonna be VERY versatile in a hot clime; probably not so much in a cooler one, but a heated carrier case could help.

Reptiles are defined pretty simply as cold blooded vertebrates, and birds lack several key features to be regarded as such.

For example, multiple reptiles are partially endothermic, partially ectothermic - just like some fish are endothermic, like Tuna. Birds are Aves by Linnaean classification, but reptiles by phylogenetic classification - and the Linnaean system is slowly being replaced (it currently exists side by side with phylogenetics).

Probably the main reasons not to eat them is that you don't know what they've been eating, and he may lose his drive to hunt if he gets full.

THE PET HOUSE It seems like the normal procedure is to freeze prey for a while to kill parasites and bacteria, then use the meat for feeding later. You also want to be careful because rat poison often takes days to kill rodents. But if he was called to a job then they probably don’t use poison at that location, and since this is Raptor’s first real hunt you don’t want to discourage the animal by interfering TOO much. Joseph has said in other videos that getting the animal to cache their prey is usually the hardest part of the training.
