I have an original DT555 I bought in 1984...so the controls are: Switch position up RHYTHM: neck pickup Switch position down TREBLE: bridge pickup Switch position middle: All three pickups on Knobs: Tone knob is the rear one nearest the plug Front knob is volume all pickups Middle knob is volume control for the middle pickup. So when the Switch middle position (all pickups) is selected you can turn up or turn down/off the middle pickup independently of the neck and bridge pickups thus providing a variety of tones. The Destroyer DT555 is actually NOT a signature or tribute guitar...Phil happened to play a DT555 which he actually had when he played in "Girl" prior to joining Def Leppard. He modded it with a Kayler tremolo but it is not a Phil Collen "signature" guitar. Ibanez also used him in its promotion of the DT555 so it is often simply referred to as the Phil Collen Destroyer. I don't know of any other major artist that used a DT555. The original axe has Ibanez V2 humbuckers which I reckon are great and the look of the beast with the triple bank, gloss black and white with gold hardware is totally deluxe. I still have it of course!
Awesome. I have dt155,had it since 1985. Best guitar I ever had. Killer guitar. I have a Seymour duncan invader n bridge,stock in hooked up middle pickup,dimarzio super 2 in neck with huge 0.022 orange drop cap .
Wire the middle pickup to a push pull to select either the neck or middle. It would be usable. Most guitars are lacking in the "middle" position. If it was wired in you would maintain output. I have done it on several Les Pauls...Cheers Mr. James.
I've always liked them a bit more than the Gibson Explorer. They have a lot of improvements, and I'd definitely load a Super Distortion in there as the icing on the cake.

@@thebaldshredder That's fair unfortunately I have a neurological condition where my hands shake all the time so I have a really hard time with wires and soldering, Ive tried and maybe I will get it eventually but normally I stop before I cause too serious of damage lol

Love it, but that is NOT QUITE the Phil Collen model. I bought the Ibanez Destroyer II DT-555, which includes a locking tremelo bridge, back in (I think) 1984 for (I think) AUD$ 799. It was F**KING awesome, but I sold it when I moved overseas 😭 😭 😭

Thanks man! When I was a kid I loved Phil Collen with this guitar!! I took the advertisement from Ibanez and folded it up and put it in my pocket to carry around and look at it!! Pyromania is one of the greatest hard rock albums of all time!!!
I do that all the time. I have some guitars with toggle up is bridge. I know which pup is active in which position. it's not rocket science. it makes no diff to me. I'm well experienced, just lazy as fuck. haha
