+Soviet Potato Destroyer don't have a specific genre they make music in.. It varies from album to album.

Thomas st.clair Their earlier stuff is a lot more musically similar than their later work. Dan Bejar himself said that he thought of "City of Daughters", "Thief" and "Streethawk: A Seduction" as a trilogy. You can see a couple of similarities that run all throughout their work. Jazz-influenced drums have always been there, if not the other aspects of jazz. Synthesizers have always been there, albeit in a limited way until "Your Blues". The mellow sound of their music has always been there. Dan Bejar's referential lyricis and odd song structures have always been there. Orchestration started on "Your Blues", and continued again live on "Trouble in Dreams". Yeah, I can't really see them as being a part of any specific genre, but there are some constants. Or at least you could say there are definitely some common ideas. Personally, I'm waiting for Destroyer to make a shoegaze album. That would be great. I felt "Trouble in Dreams" didn't go in that direction far enough.

Horrible idea to mix in the frames with the a "singing face"... breaks the vibe, and distracts from the "story" being shown. If it was the intention, to show different emotions, and make it less positive, than it doesn't speak to me. It's a pity, as otherwise it's pretty cool, and the album it promotes is very good... though not as great as Kaputt, with which one could "fall in love" on the first listen, like I did without knowing the band a few years ago...
