Hey Shawn, great video! Quick question: What is the best course of action for dealing with mice that may have gotten into a car? I found some mouse droppings this morning and was considering setting a trap, but wasn’t sure where to start

Do you know of any animal that would like some yellow jackets for a treat? Do birds even eat them? I know brown/river trouts do, have found them in stomachs from fish I've caught. Great vid as usual! :)

Shawn, I noticed on previous videos that you consistently refer to these insects as "yellow jacket hornets." Is this the standard terminology in your neck of the woods? The reason I ask is that we have them back east as well, but they are just referred to as yellow jackets.

Me too! It's something about the legs for me. So spindly, not sure why that creeps me out, but it very much does!

i have done this on a much bigger nest. you dont have to stand there if you have a stronger vac. you just place the hose end at the hole and turn it on. but yes they do pour out when the alarm is sounded. between the vibration of the vac, noise, and the pheromone they come running. this nest was really not that big, it might have been at one time but under 500 wasps is nothing

@@ericolens3 you should look up the giant southern nest that a guy took out that was the size of a vw bug. the southern nests will give you nightmares if this tiny one crepped you out.

@@ericolens3 southern us. the southern yellow jacket. because the weather is getting hotter they dont die off and have longer times to live and just keep building, also they are changing where they are having more then 1 queen per nest, some ants are doing this as well including the fire ants in the south. you will see it the nest is next to a tree and it is a giant.

It's humane to kill them as quickly as possible, not causing needless suffering.

A pvc pipe T or Y works AMAZING if you put the vacuum hose on the side of the pvc fitting and the hole above the hornet hole.

The scary thing is that these are somewhat underground and hard to find

There was a nest built in a wall that was impossible to get to and my grandpa taped the end of a vacuum cleaner hose next to the hole and turned it on for about an hour a day for a while

@@Zero_Is_Stopping_Time Skunks actually love yellow jacket larvae, they will dig up a nest when they find one. Seemingly un-phased by their stings. About the only thing I know of that will seek then out...also, about the only good thing I know about skunks lol

Dehydration is a likely possiblity. Being unable to access water while a strong current of air flowing over them could be it.

Yeah, the nozzle being used seemed weak. To me, if you have to put effort in waving the nozzle around to catch them, it kinda defeats the purpose of being as safe as possible, even if wearing a bee suit. A much wider nozzle would have been much more effective and just letting it sit there.

A quart of gasoline poured down their hole in the early morning or right at sunset never fails. The fumes kill them all within hours.

Ive once seen a video where they sprayed wd40 into a vacuum and it exploded. So watch out

Quite many countries has laws like that (you are not allowed to kill animals on purpose without cause). But there is often exceptions when it comes to protect your property (around the house) and I guess that Germany has some variant of those as well.

Somehow i knew a video was gonna pop up in my recommendations. 2 weeks ago that same thing happened to me. I was mowing...but i didnt look back and felt stings on my back....jumped off the mower and ran for my life. Didnt know exactly where they came from and got back on the mower. Went around and while i was taking my time...i managed to get too close to where they were...i looked back and saw them coming. Got stung a couple more times and jumped off and ran for my life yet again. A total of 9 stings. I know where the nest is now but just been cutting around it. At least an 8ft cushion. Not sure how to deal with it. Might get some of the stuff you used.

@@jerico80 pouring gas on the nests works well too. If not so great for the environment. No need to light it. Just let ir run in should kill em all.

I sent dragon's breath from my 12 gauge at them. It's just more satisfying that way. Also buckshot is great to prove to snakes you're still the apex predator.

He's actually already tried it! Unfortunately, it didn't work so well.

@@misterrocketman to be honest, I think he picked a day that was too windy, but that's still a failure when you consider how difficult it is. Just that I think CO2 strategy could work with tweaking or right weather conditions. Especially if you drop a lot of CO2 in the evening.

Gasoline is much more satisfying.

Yes, he's doing this the hard way. I've done this with a vacuum (That's def. a wimpy shop-vac he's got there, I must say btw.). just lay the nozzle by the entrance, weight it down, stand back and bang around the entrance with a beefy stick. I didn't have to wear anything special, they don't seem to grasp the idea of the guy who's 8 feet away at the other end of the enemy attacking their doorway.

Some shop vacs don't tolerate continuous duty: the motor overheats leading to irreparable damage.

I would have at least given the ground a good thump to piss them off and bring them out before I started digging.
