Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

Happy Father's Day Nathan and Mark. Have a great weekend guys. If the crystal ball holds true you will be running it the rest of the summer. Everyone is saying hot and dry. I hope they are wrong in the heat. I HATE HEAT !!!

If you do some more in the future try using dish soap on the gaskets in the pipe instead of the joint lube they usually send with that pipe. Seems like the dish soap makes it easier to go together for us

Yes, and I use liquid hand soap on any kind or size of oil ring, especiallyif you have to turn something after in place, keeps the oil ring from binding up and twisting or coming out of place.

Looks good. Here in Kansas we have to have flow meters on all irrigation wells. Guess that is difference between here and there.

Thought about a flow meter but really hand no reason for one once the pump is set

@@BorderViewFarms in Nebraska we have to report how many gallons we pump, so we are required to have them on all wells

You better go back to holding a steering wheel then a shovel. You are not cut out for manual labor.

Will you have to winterize/insulate that waterline for the freeze in winter? Just curious.

In your next pipe laying project after the trench is dug and the pvc pipe is laid next to the trench put the pipe together next to the trench,if it is gasket type use plenty of the soap grease to lube through gasket end and the male end then put a 2x4 under the female end(always lay the pipe starting at the well with the male end first) then insert the male end into the gasket end and push until the marked black line meets the coupler end.. I always had a 6x6 “ block with a rubber hose nailed to the end to make a handle the use a sledgehammer to drive the pipe to the black line on the other end you then can put 5 or 6 pcs together or the entire line on top of the ground then take 5 2x4” about 3 ft long and lay them on top of the trench and use a rope and put it under the pipe and slide the pipe over on top of the 2x4s above the trench do this for ~5 joints then do back to the start point put the rope under the pipe and lower into the trench there I no need to get in the trench ,it is not hard even with 8” diameter pipe. This takes 2 people. Good luck

At the end when in the office you look ragged lol. Why do you cement in the z pipe? It was sad to see all the corn 🌽 go bye bye and it’s not even mine. Have you done any fertilizing to the sweet corn. Have a great weekend Nathan.

All of the buried pipe has gaskets slip joints, meaning they slide together but there is nothing actually securing them together. The concrete is there as a thrust block to prevent the pipe from coming apart under pressure.

I probably have a 100 miles of lines around my land here in Texas. One is 15" concrete, it weighs 800 lbs per 8' joint. Some is 3 phase 500 MCM Aluminium wire for irrigation pumps. Gas, 2 miles helium, water, and 3 miles fiber-optic running from Denver to Houston. Some times we hit lines no one knows about!

Once you see the normal power usage you should look into a solar array, freestanding or on the shed your dad might build

Why didn't you bury the pipe before you planted the field? Then you would not have to destroy any of your corn.
