The super resolution set to 4 on this with any movie almost looks as good as if it were 4K SDR versions.

I was prepared to purchase the Oppo Darbee edition, but I think with this free firmware upgrade for my 6030UB, I'll get almost the same or the same exact effect for free! I can't wait!!

Art I need some help here. I have an issue when watching 3D on my home theater setup . I have 135 inch screen and Epson 5030ub sourced from my Alienware PC.. When I watch a 3d movie like HUBBLE the slow scenes are awesome but when action hits its like almost to fast for the eye to see and gets blurry almost. Any idea how I could correct this. Sitting about 16ft from the screen? Playing the 46gb movie thru PowerDVD and I have slid the stereoscopic effect slide up and down and still nothing. What am i missing or what am I doing wrong.

Thanks Art. I would be sending a HD signal from my blue ray with cheap surround sound to the projector. Also since this is a older unit should I be waiting or buying a different unit? I’m sure there are other comparables

Graafx, it, of course comes down to price. You may get a better/different opportunity in the next 2-3 months. Epson upgraded the pixel shifting hardware and some other things with the launch of their H4010 and PC4050,both of which are priced below the UBs, and lack the great black levels, but are otherwise about identical (different 3LCD panels). Many industry folks expect that Epson will logically replace the 5040UB/6040UB in the not too distant future, since some aspects of the UBs are now inferior to the less expensive 4010/4050. I can confirm that the 4010 I reviewed comes across as definitely a little sharper than the 5040UB I have here. Anyway, if you aren’t in a big hurry you might want to wait 3-6 weeks to see if there will be replacements. (No guarantees - I had figured that it would be logical to announce new UBs at CES last week, and it didn’t happen there. So, no question - I’m obviously fallible!) -art

Hi! We tried installing the firmware but when we get to step 7 of the install which reads: Safely eject the projector from your computer and disconnect the Mini-USB cable from the projector. After a moment, the projector’s lights flash and the firmware update starts. When we disconnect the mini-USB the projector turns off and the update does not happen. We did this three times literally doing each step over and still nothing. Any idea what could be happening? Thanks for any assistance.

Hey Art. Ive been wanting to buy the 5030 UBe but as you know they stopped making these. I can buy the 5030UB refurbished on the epson website and from you past video comparing them there isn't much difference except the wireless capabilities of the UBe. Do both have frame interpolation? and can I still do wireless HD capabilities with the 5030UB and after market products? How would that work? Should I just buy something all together different? thanks!
@projectorreviews
@projectorreviews 5 лет назад
Hi graafx Yes, all 5030s have CFI. And yes, while there 3rd party wireless HDMI devices which will work, the UBe did have some advantages. Still, you can do it. I use wireless HDMI for example with a different Epson in my living room. I bought a 3rd party setup, but that was a few years back. There’s probably longer distance units, and for less today. I just don’t know which to recommend to you. good luck in the hunt. -art

@@graafx79 PS. Graafx, my point was, if they do launch new UBs, then pricing will fall on existing 5040UBs, assuming they have inventory to move out. It also would indicate that in a few months Epson would start offering 5040UB refurbished, as they replace their “replacement fleet” with the newer model over time. -art

Hi i need help here.. .. How is the focus uniformity? Is edge to edge sharp? Any corner or side blurry or soft? You can check that looking to a desktop full of icons to check uniformity.
@projectorreviews
@projectorreviews 8 лет назад
+Daniel Ramírez That’s an optical issue, and first of all, has nothing to do with things like the Super-Resolution. None of these (relatively) low cost projectors especiallly those with long range zooms like Epson’s 2.1:1 are going to have the same optical resolution in the corners as the center, and there will also be some difference in focusing between the closest part of the screen (if ceiling mounted, that would be top center), and the furthest - lower corners. All that said, these Epson’s are really pretty good. I don’t have a problem with the minimal softness. As always, best to set focus for about 1/3 of the way out from the center of the screen. I’ve probably spent close to 1000 hours viewing various UB projectors in the last three generations. -art

+Projector Reviews, Inc. Not even the 6030 have perfect edge to edge focus in a complete flat screen or wall? That's a shame and they are a little expensive with mediocre optics, not even with a fujinon lens. The point here is that a projector is a quality loss, and not lossless like a hdtv screen,so is not a pure blu ray experience.
@projectorreviews
@projectorreviews 8 лет назад
+Daniel Ramírez Ah, one can argue many aspects of projectors vs LCDTVs, but the first point you should consider is that we’re talking technology when discussing optical sharpness. Let’s be practical. Can you see the difference in sharpness when a 6030 is properly set up on a 100” screen when viewing from the usual 12-15 feet back. No. But move to 8 feet away, and sure. On the other hand, at 8 feet away, you’ll see the individual pixels as well, and you would see them even more on a 100” LCDTV if you could afford the $30,000+ At the end of the day, we’re talking viewing experience. We can discuss DLP vs LCD vs LCoS, vs OLED, vs standard LCD. One could complain about the reflectivity of a typical LCDTV’s surface. Black levels, color handling, etc. There is no perfection at $2500, or for that matter at four times that price, so it’s always trade-offs. Let’s let it go this way, the most serious enthusiasts - movie fanatics, sports fans, take your pick, those caring enough to pay attention, and see what’s out there, are generally those with projectors. That’s not to say projectors are the best at everything, they aren’t, and certainly a 100” OLED TV will be some serious competition for a great projector, but since a 100” OLED TV is probably going to be $25,000 - $50,000 five years from now, I’m not going to worry about those yet. If you have a proper room, and add a great projector with proper screen, you’ll have an experience that almost all will consider far beyond any LCDTV solution anywhere near the price. It’s the combination of size, quality, black level performance, and overall immersion, that has fanatics choosing projectors first. -art

+Projector Reviews, Inc. Good response, different technologies. One last example is digital projection in cinemas. I saw the hunger games at a digital cinema (a 4k dcp file and a very expensive pj) and i remember the lack of sharpness in the screen, i notice more with the soft subtitles. This optical issue is common, and the projection guy doesn't even care. And i have the hunger games in blu ray and it looks even sharper with my faulty soft focus projector.

Hi is this available for the Epson TW 8100? Cheers
@projectorreviews
@projectorreviews 8 лет назад
+William Abbot Hi William, I always have trouble keeping track of the EU model numbers. So, up front, I’m not sure. But, here’s what I think. I believe that the TW8100 is basically the HC5020UB here in the states. I say that because I think the TW8100 goes back to late 2012, which would match the 5020UB. IN that case, the answer would be no, the enhancement to the super-resolution, etc that Epson made does not work with the 5020UB, only 5030UB, so I would be pretty sure you are out of luck. But the easy way to be sure is to contact Epson, hit up their closest website and contact support. Good luck, but I fear you won’t have the option. ON the bright side, the 5020UB (and the 5030UB were just great without that relatively minor improvement) -art

+Projector Reviews, Inc. Thanks! Yeah I emailed Epson Australia and was told the same. Lol... I did suggest in my reply to Epson that an update to the TW8100 (the counterpart to 5020UB) would be appreciated. Cheers

what settings best mix with darbee?
@projectorreviews
@projectorreviews 8 лет назад
+jamie campbell Hi Jamie. Haven’t worked with the Darbee yet - at all, although I plan to bring one in. When I do, the 5030UB is one of the projectors that’s on loan to me for many months, so I’ll check it out. Most likely I’ll have Mike or Ron review the Darbee as both are into the whole calibration, and playing with settings modes. I count on them to come up with what looks best, then it’s my job to translate and tell all of you about how it looks. Soon as I have one coming in (we’re slammed, so I am unlikely to get to it before mid-March), I’ll list it on homepage under the coming soon section on the right, with best estimate as to when it will be published. -art

+jamie campbell Here's a revised answer, actually. Art realized he reviewed the older version. So a revised answer: "Haven’t worked with the newest Darbee yet - the 5100 series although we probably will bring one in. Ron previously reviewed the 5000S which is now, I believe discontinued. If we do, the 5030UB is one of the projectors that’s on loan to me for many months, so I’ll check it out. You might want to visit projectorreviews.com and visit the review, then Ron’s blog: The Technical Side. He may be able to best answer your question. Once it’s decided whether to do the new version, and a confirmation from the DarbeeVision folks as to when they will ship it, I’ll list it on homepage under the coming soon section on the right, with best estimate as to when it will be published. -art"
