Has anyone else noticed how beauty commercials NEVER feature women with this length and texture of hair? They will feature a woman with short hair juxtaposed with women with long, loose textured hair. The only place to find long, voluminous, textured hair on women is on social media. Even the so called blk hair care lines refuse to showcase long textured hair unless it is wavy. I dare them to feature this woman in a hair commercial. This will shut down all of the internet.❤
Hi Eve, yes ma’am, I’m in the entertainment industry so I have definitely taken note of this. I actually posted about it on my TikTok months ago, if you’d like to take a look.
@@PatriceMarjorie @Eve Hi ladies, my comment/opinion is NOT meant to be raYcially charged. I'm simply pointing out what I've noticed another reason why BWomen's natural (or relaxed) _LONG_ hair is not promoted in mainstream media/beauty/fashion. First, im sure you're very aware that Caucasian women have been upheld as the beauty standard for centuries. The idea that their hair grows healthy and long is always automatically given. However, when I started to pay closer attention it became RARE to see WWomen's hair (without extensions) any longer than a BWoman's healthy hair🤷🏾 Oftentimes, a LOT of WW hair is _short or barely collar/shoulder length. It's damaged, thin, dry with lots of split ends_ due to their love of abusing bleach to obtain various shades of blonde or other light colors, curly perms and heat tools. The only times I've seen Caucasian women with healthy hair is when they're very young girls, or women in the Mormon community who don't do lots of crappy things to their hair and regularly trim it and wear simple fish tail braids. Next, the natural hair community gained a strong platform to highlight the beauty and versatility of BWomen's healthy _type 4_ hair. NON-blacks learned a lot about black hair care from SMedia. They're surprised to see videos that a short afro can turn out to be nice shoulder length hair when stretched or straighten from a shrunken state. It became evident that a lot of BWomen actually have very long, thick, beautiful hair and that goes against the long standing _false narrative_ that black hair can't grow long.
@@beeznhoney4323 I agree with your entire statement. I want to see a BWoman version of a Loreal or a cute slogan similar to “Maybe she’s born with it”. I do not expect this to come from white corporations because like you alluded to in your statement, there is a need keep BWoman “buying beauty” as if we aren’t the prototype💅🏾. Unfortunately, even the major black owned companies have failed to properly promote and display the image of BWomen that is becoming common place online: Rich melanated, Happy BWomen with Long/Big/Voluminous HAIR!
@@AminaPhilosophy @Patrice M has got the goods to make that L'Oreal commercial happen. I hope she keeps posting about this disparity of representation and tag these companies and their diversity depts. Maybe other long 4c hair ladies can join forces. I'd just make sure that its well KNOWN that long 4c hair (projects) can no longer be co-opted by loose curly hair representatives😒 BWomen are beautiful👸🏽✨ Our short and long hair is so versatile and unique. I wear my hair relaxed but I'm always happy to see BWomen's channels like this.
I’ve seen the commercials that have had long thick hair , not always . Some people feel it’s fair to show more short and tight textures vs long coarse. I myself have long coarse hair so I know when I see it on someone else and it’s nice to see yourself . If all women have long hair then those with shorter hair fill left out so I think it could be difficult to make everyone happy at once 🤷🏾♀️ I def get what your saying esp because I don’t like seeing a small collection I prefer diversity however keeping everyone happy is not possible!!!!
It was so nice to hear you say you didn't have negative feelings about your hair at a young age...my sentiments are the same. We're always hearing the opposite and I knew not everyone hated or disliked their hair. Beautiful hair.
Thank you Nicole! I also think that demographics can play a huge part in informing the relationship we have with our hair. In my youth, I spent a couple years in a predominately white neighborhood and boy can that mess with you. Not to mention, I'm an 80s baby- the creamy crack era did a number on a lot of us mentally.
My mother always acted like my hair was a hassle and relaxed it early. That's the story many women experienced. Also stylists will insult us as children calling out hair too coarse and unmanageable, pulling on it, burning us with chemicals and the hot comb that they say we need. That's why you hear so much of the opposite.
You’re definitely blessed! Had I had that growing up, I would’ve love my hair! My mom man handled my hair growing up and always called it “ugly”. I didn’t recuperate from that until I turned 43. This year , I’ll be 45. All I can say is To Yah be ALL the glory!!
My hair is dense. I have a lot of strands/hair on my head but my strands are so fine. I find myself having so many set backs. My hair grows fast but breaks easily. It knots easily which results in breaking. Even when stretched it knots. im getting frustrated
Hi! I understand that frustration completely. How often do you trim your ends? If my ends need a trim, similar to your hair, even when it’s stretched, it will tangle.
I LOVE seeing people with MY hair type and it's long like this. It's never been THIS long, but my hair has gone to bra strap length if I didn't cut it. I'm sure that it would have been past tailbone length had I kept it now. Its currently at the top part of my back now.
I love seeing people with my hair type as well! I appreciate all hair textures but I feel the most inspired when I see women with hair texture that is like mine. It’s one of the reasons that I started this channel. I kept seeing ladies with looser textures on my feed showing a hair routine that I couldn’t relate to.
This video is the best video I love how she shows both parents everything in this video is so amazing. I can tell she was raised right and that she loves and respects her parents. #veryrare
Thank you so much for subscribing sis! Don’t give up on your hair, please. With the right regimen and mindset, you’ll reach your hair goals, I promise!
Great video, the relaxed tone of your voice and background music made this video flow well, I appreciate the organization of all the pictures as well. Subscribing for more.
💜💜 we thoroughly enjoyed your journey. thank you so much for sharing. I hope you don’t mind a suggestion… excellent music choice, but you have such a beautiful speaking voice and we’d love to hear your voice above the music. would you be so kind to turn the music down for future videos? you know, like use the music as a background to layer and fill the space underneath your voice :) 💜💜
Hi! Yes, I accidentally increased the volume to the wrong level and didn’t notice until it was posted. Music won’t consistently be at that level. Thank you for being kind with your suggestion and thanks so much for watching! 💕🌸
Welcome back! 🌱 Thanks for watching and for participating in the giveaway! I’m so appreciative of all your support!! Congrats to the 2 winners (revealed at the end of the video). Email me and I will be sure to send you both your prizes 💕
This is the best Hair Journey story on the net. Thank you so much for sharing, I am on my journey and leaving my hair alone has proven to be very successful. I wear crochet braid wash once a week and seal very simple regimen. My hair loves it I can finally see light at the end of the tunnel. your hair is amazing. 💞💞💞💞
I do love how much truth you have in here. You mentioned no prouducts. Thank you so much for this! I wish I could find someone with my type of hair to make a video like this.
Thanks so much for watching! 🤎 To me, it’s less about products and more about how you treat your hair- your hair care practice. Some people use the most expensive products and still struggle with length retention & healthy hair.
Hi! Sorry for the loud music. I mentioned on another similar comment above that it was a mistake 🫣 I accidentally exported this video with the wrong audio setting. Future vids will have a milder audio level. Thanks for understanding and for watching! 🤍
Don't leave your braids/twists in for longer that 8 weeks. It will matt so bad you will be breaking it off trying to unmat it. I left mine in for three months on e, and I experienced breakagd from unmattin it,😲☹️
Happened to me too :( I left it for way too long, sewn under weave bc my hairstylist was in another town, It took days-weeks to untangle and I slowly unmatted it. But def some hair loss. I stopped getting sew ins since earlier this year, my hair never breathed for over like 12 years so even though I don't use glue or damaging products, my edges are short from the constant tight braiding under a sew in. Never realized how much damage I was doing in a "protective style". Constant tight braids is not good and I didn't know any better. I now will wear wigs without sew in when I go out but mostly keep my hair in loose protective twists at home. When I wash my hair, I air dry, no heat. I hope your hair journey goes well!
Wow girl u are gorgeous..an your hair is beautiful...your hair in child hood pic is so so breathtaking beautiful...girl u are a born queen 👑..you took it all from your mom she is a black queen....i really injoyed this video...thanks for sharing..stay safe always.🙏..an may god 🙏bless u an your family always...lots of love to u sis❣️❣️❤️👋.
Oh my goodness!! You’re hair has ALWAYS been 😍! I love the fact the you didn’t have any negative feelings towards your hair because many of us had the opposite opinions about our hair, which started with our mothers! Thanks for sharing your journey!! BTW, what is the name of the song you’re playing? I love it
Thank you Mattie! One thing that I’ve learned is that textured hair requires so much patience and gentle hands. It’s one of the reasons I do my own hair.
Thank you! And, congratulations on your hair journey and progress! If you can make it this far, surely tailbone length will be obtainable for you! Let me know when you get there!
Beautiful video! Thank you for sharing! I appreciate how to the point and organized your video is. You definitely give the impression of being very down to earth and caring about others. I didn't have to wait 5 mins for you to pose in the beginning of the video like too many other hair RU-vidrs.
New sub, you are blessed with beautiful hair. I’m inspired. Mine has been stuck at bras trap length after trimming 3-4 inches off 3yrs ago I’m here looking for inspiration and I got it.
@@PatriceMarjorie Thanks for answering this! I'm glad @pragooutube asked, because I was wondering as well. I'm almost 5ft11, so waist length on me is a whole lot of inches. The only time I reached that point was when I had locs. But with loose hair, it seems like I just get to a standstill just above bra strap length. Not to mention the front and top of my hair are tighter in texture and seem to constantly break. I love my hair, but I'm really thinking of going back to locs because I'm so tired of the breakage. Just wanted to add I would love to be your height. My mom is 4ft11, and I've always wanted to be short like her.
You are so welcome! I can surely understand the frustration from hair breakage. I recently stopped combing and brushing my hair so much and instead finger detangle. This has helped a lot! I also protect my ends as much as possible and keep protective styles in as often as I can. Isn't it interesting how we often want what we don't have? What I wouldn't do to be 5"11 for a day ;-) @@Kindred04
Almost all Africans . I am Congolese and we do that , Tanzania does that too and so many other countries In Africa. Some believe , that birth hair is dirty, some believe so the baby hair will grow more thicker and some believe so the baby head won’t be bigger and so many other crazy ideas . Never agreed with them bc I am not planning on doing that with my future daughters 😄
This is so inspiring 🥰 trust me If I had straightened hair after watching your video I would go natural immediately 😂 your video is so motivating 🤗 thanks for taking us along your journey 💕
New subscriber here! My goal is waist-length; Im currently right at nip length lol. I just watched your washday video. Do you blowdry your hair for stretch after each washday before you twist? Do you keep your hair in twists most of the time? Do you finger detangle?
Hi!! Welcome!! ✨✨ Thank you sm for subscribing. I don’t always stretch my hair on wash day. I finger detangle every wash day and typically wear my hair in twists or protected somehow never out- I get too many tangles and single strand knots when my hair is out
@@PatriceMarjorie oh okay! Thanks for responding. My hair is the same-it tangles so easily. I can rarely wear it out. Do you ONLY finger detangle or do you use a comb as well? Im thinking of going to "fingers only" but I'm not sure if that would cause issues down the road. I feel like the combs and brushes are so harsh on our coils.
It’s been about 6.5 years since I made a big cut around 2016. My hair was the longest in 2019-2020, so I’d say it took about 4 years to grow to waist length. And, thank you! 🫶🏾
Wow this was such a beautiful video! Everything that you shared was thoughtful and easy to understand. Thanks for sharing this part of your life with us!
WOW, great tutorial and great hair. I am starting my own hair journey. I too leave my hair alone, I usually wear extender single braids, anything that is low maintenance. I noticed that my hair had really started to grow. It use to only get to shoulder length and then it starts, breaking, splitting and hair loss. Now I am ready for the challenge of growing my hair to waist length. ❤
I do agree that genes have a lot to do with how thick your hair is. I have type 4 hair and it’s very difficult for my hair to be thick and long. I think it’s because my genes….
I agree, genes play a huge role, and not too many people talk about that. There are things that also support having thick hair that you might want to incorporate or remove from your current hair care routine. For example, do you comb it a lot?
Have you tried looking at your diet (eating more carrots, spinach, and broccoli), exercise (150 minutes weekly), and water consumption (half your body weight in ounces) daily? I find that these made a difference.
Thats amazing you never had any negative thought about your hair.I gradually had to love my hair. Now Im completely in love with my hair. Its 4c thick and I love it.
Oh, that makes me so happy! There is literally nothing like thick, natural 4c hair- it's so uniquely gorgeous! I definitely went through stages where I wished my hair texture was different, you're not alone. I just didn't start feeling that way until I was a bit older. Prior to that, I was getting perms which I loved lol.
Aww, beautiful story baby thank you 😊. At times, I get frustrated. Do this, do that, don't do this, don't do that. Grow it in 2 days, put oil, no use water, no, the air is damaging it, and the list goes on and on. Am gonna look at my hair strands and see my hair type and look at the community, which can help me. And see how it goes, but I am still welcoming all journeys.
Thanks for watching and I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I’ve addressed the volume a few times in this comment section- I simply exported the video at the wrong volume 🫢 Sorry about that! 🫶🏾
Thanks ever so much for sharing your hair journey. It makes me more motivated to continue growing my hair long as this is one of my goals. Watching this helps me to preserver along with my hair journey.😊
The title is Hope by OP Beats! You did link it to this video, but I couldn’t see it. I logged on from my MacBook and there it was! I appreciate you responding ☺️
